Al Bayda', also transliterated as Al-Baidhah or Beida (Arabic: البيضاء), not to be mixed with al-Bayda' in al-Jawf, the ancient Nashqum) is a town in central Yemen, in the Governorate of Al Bayda'. It is located 130 miles SE of Sanaa, at 13°58′35″N 45°34′15″E / 13.97639°N 45.57083°E / 13.97639; 45.57083.
Its population, according to the 2004 Yemeni census, was 571,778.
Rada (Arabic: رداع) is its capital.

The Republic of Yemen (Arabic: الجمهورية اليمنية al-Jumhūrīyah al-Yamanīyah), commonly known as Yemen i/ˈjɛmən/ (Arabic: اليَمَن al-Yaman), is a country located in Western Asia, occupying the southwestern to southern end of the Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the north, the Red Sea to the west, and Oman to the east. Yemen is considered one of the poorest countries in the Arab world. Its capital and largest city is Sana'a. Yemen's territory includes over 200 islands, the largest of which is Socotra, about 415 km (258 mi) to the south of mainland Yemen, off the coast of Somalia. It is the only state in the Arabian Peninsula to have a purely republican form of government. Approximately 53% of Yemenis are Sunnis, while 45% are Zaydi Shias.
One etymology derives Yemen from yamin, meaning "on the right side", as the south is on the right when facing the sunrise. Another derives Yemen from yumn, meaning "felicity", as the region is fertile. The Romans called it Arabia Felix (Happy Arabia) as opposed to Arabia Deserta (Deserted Arabia), which was their term for northern Arabia.
Bayda /(ɑːl) ˈbaɪdə/ or /ˈbeɪdə/ (Arabic: البيضاءAl Baiḍāʾ listen (help·info)), also spelled Az Zāwiyah al Bayḑā’, Zāwiyat al Bayḑā’,BeidaEl Beida and known as Beda Littoria under Italian occupation, is a commercial and industrial city in eastern Libya. It is located in the northern Cyrenaica. With a population 250,000 people, Bayda is the fourth-largest city in Libya, after Tripoli, Benghazi and Misrata. It is the capital city of the Jabal al Akhdar District.
Bayda's history stretches back to Ancient Greece, when it was known as Balagrae. The 2000 year old ruins of the ancient Greek colony Cyrene are located nearby in Shahad.
One of the greatest attractions in the city today is the tomb of a famous companion of the Prophet Muhammad, Ruwaifi bin Thabit al-Ansari. For that reason, the city was known as Sidi Rafaa after him. After the arrival of Sayyid Muhammad ibn Ali as-Senussi in the area in the 19th century, and the construction of a zawiya, the city was renamed Az Zawiya Al Bayda. The modern city was built in the 1950s. It was originally intended to be the new capital of Libya, and most of the necessary government buildings were constructed there. Eventually, the plan to move the capital from Tripoli to Bayda was dropped. Bayda is the administrative seat for Jabal al Akhdar District today.
