Riz Khan - Battling religious extremism
Many in the US now say the landscape of religious extremism has shifted from Afghanistan to Pakistan. We ask: To what extent is Pakistan becoming the new epicentre of religious extremism and what can be done to reverse that trend?

Religious Extremism - Dr. Bilal Philips
Eloquent, articulate and outspoken are some of the words that describe Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips. His quest to search for the truth led him from his birth island of Jamaica to the streets of Toronto where he grew up and accepted Islam in 1972. This journey has led him down many paths and he is known the world over as an Islamic scholar, Lecturer, Author and Thinker. Dr. Abu Ameenah completed his BA from the College of Islamic Disciplines (Usool ad-Deen) at the Islamic University of Madeenah in 1979, and thereafter went on to complete his Master's in Aqeedah at the University of Riyadh in 1985 and finally obtained his PhD from the University of Wales, UK in Islamic Theology in 1994. He has taught Islamic Education and Arabic in private schools, lectured M.Ed. students in the Islamic Studies department of various universities and has founded Islamic information centers while traveling extensively across the globe imparting Islamic knowledge as dictated by the Islamic tradition. Abu Ameenah enjoys playing squash at least three times a week with his wife and sons as a means of keeping fit and de-stressing and he also supervises his children in martial arts. It is interesting to note that in his earlier days, he acquired a black belt in Karate. His greatest achievement is the founding of Islamic Online University that has over 3000 students and authoring over 100 Islamic books of which, the fundamentals of Tawheed is his favourite. He currently resides in Doha, Qatar with ...

How To Deal With Homophobic Religious Extremists
Since it first aired on Charlotte CBS affiliate WBTV, the video featuring pastor Charles L. Worley from Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, NC has incited anger around the world. This comes on the heels of several other disturbing anti-gay religious sermons that became viral on the internet, including one from pastor Sean Harris who told parents that they should hit their children if they begin to act gay. Every person on this planet has a voice, and we are all teachers; however big or small, each of us has a pulpit. These pastors choose to use their pulpit to spread pain, disharmony, and hate in the world. My social media platform is my pulpit, and I choose to use it to broadcast a message of peace, forgiveness, hope, and understanding—with the intention of validating the millions of gay people who live, love, and learn in both big cities and small towns around the world. People ask me if I'm Christian, or Jewish, or Buddhist, or another religion. And I say, "Yes, I'm all of these things." There are many ways to cultivate a relationship with a higher power, the Universe, God—whatever you want to call it. Religion, and stories of the compassionate people of our past are but two of these many ways. I want to share here, with you, how we can launch a more fruitful discussion with our adversaries and, most importantly, with our selves.

All Believers Are Not Equal
There is a vast difference between the moderate, progressive believer and the rabid, fundamentalist religious extremist. I've been accused of painting all believers with a broad brush, but this is inaccurate. I've spoken out and written many times about the chasm that exists between a person of faith and a religious fanatic. _____________________________________ Web: www.alstefanelli.com | Twitter @Stefanelli Blog: alstefanelli.wordpress.com Information about me and my books www.alstefanelli.com As always, comments are open.

Abhishek Dasgupta - Atyachaari (The Video) - Hindi Rock
The song is based on the rampant corruption, religious extremism, superstition and public apathy thriving in modern India. This video is dedicated to all those Indians who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of our country. Song co - produced and mixed by Akash Sawant. Video compiled and edited by Abhishek Dasgupta. Music and Lyrics by Abhishek Dasgupta. Lyrics - Jo raaz tha, Woh ab riwaaz hai. Jahaan tak dikhaai de, Tunay haath maari hai. Sab baithe hain, Dard ki dukaan mein. Lootkar bheek bechte rehte hain. Sannatay mein tu taali hain, Tamashay mein tu shor hai. Kaun kaise kya samjhaaye tujhe... O Atyachaari. Khud hi murti hai, Pujaaran bhi hain. Baaki sab mein prasad baatein. Chahe koi ya na chahe. Tere irdh girdh ghoomke, yeh duniya banti hai, jalti hai, mein jalta hoon, jalta hoon... Saaye mein shikaari hain, Raat banke chaayi hain. Tujhe kya pataa ki tu kitni khaali hai... The "No-No" Word for 2010-Introducing the P413x Plan of "Can-Do" Christianity
JOURNEY 2010: LIVING IN THE WILL OF GOD
This year I am calling Journey 2010. This is the year we journey closer to God as a church, as families, and as His children.
In order to do this we must embrace God’s Truth, and allow His truth to change our want to’s into His want to’s. Our Journey 2010 is all about what John wrote in 2 John 1:4 – “living the life of truth, as the Father himself instructed us”. Walking in the truth, Living out the truth, following the way of truth, abiding in the truth.
In the movie City Slickers, Billy Crystal plays a radio advertising salesman going through a mid-life crisis. He and his friends deal with the humdrumness of life by participating in a cattle drive from New Mexico to Colorado—an experience that turns out to be a kind of epiphany for all of them. At the end of the movie as they prepare to return to New York and the familiar routine, Billy Crystal explains to one of those friends the concept of a “do-over.”
Crystal is addressing his pal who, nearing 40, feels he is at a dead-end. "I've wasted my life." Brunno Kirby's character laments:
I'm at a dead end. I'm almost
40 years old. I've wasted my life.
Yeah, but now you got
a chance to start over. You know?
Phil, remember when we were kids? And we'd be playing ball and the ball would get stuck up in a tree?
And we'd yell "Do over!" Huh?
Yeah. You got a clean slate..
Crystal tells him that he can start over again. His life can be a do-over.
Phil Berquist: You know you were right, Mitch. My life is a "do-over". It's time to get started.
Mitch Robbins: I hope I can help.
Ed Furillo: Now I'm gonna go home, and I'm gonna get Kim pregnant.
Mitch Robbins: I hope I can help.
Something like that happens every January 1. We all get a “do-over"—another chance to do it right. If 2009 was a tough year for you, cheer up. It’s a brand-new year!
There is a biblical perspective we need to remember at the beginning of a new year. It’s a perspective that’s wrapped up in one simple word. If you remember not to use this particular word this year, your chances of succeeding are going to go through the roof. In fact, I think you’ll be happier if you make a decision here and now to cut this word right out of your vocabulary.
Cutting this one word from your life will force you to open your eyes to God, to His greatness. That is what Journey 2010 is all about-discovering the greatness of our Creator God.
Perhaps you saw the recent news report of the Mom who had a heart attack while delivering her baby. The baby was delivered by emergency C Section (without anesthesia) and her newborn baby was delivered without a heartbeat as well.
Dr Martin said she did not have a "great explanation" for why Mrs Hermanstorfer's heartbeat returned.
"Somewhere between four and five minutes she had been without heart rate and had stopped breathing a minute or two prior to her heart stopping," she said.
The doctors were then able to resuscitate the baby.
Despite tests, she said doctors were still not sure about what had happened.
However Mrs Hermanstorfer and her husband Mike have said they believed it was down to a miracle.
She said: "I got a second chance in life."
Dr Martin said she would take help from wherever it came.
This world ignores God. Clearly God was at work here. Perhaps he has great plans for this baby. The world just looks the other way rather than give glory to God.
This year I want to Give Glory to God! I want this to be a Hallelujah Year. So by official Pastoral Proclamation I am banning one word from use at Pleasant Prairie. That word is “CAN’T”. If you catch anyone saying this word at church, it will be a $5 fine. If I use it in a sermon after today, fine me $5.
That’s right. The one word you shouldn’t say in 2010 is the little word can’t.
We use it all the time, don’t we?
We say, “I can’t lose weight.”
“I just can’t seem to save money.”
“I try and try but I can’t find the time to read the Bible.”
“After what she did, I can’t forgive her.”
“No matter how hard I try, I can’t change, I can’t quit smoking, quit ….”
If 2010 is to be a year of Journeying with our Mighty God, it will be a CAN DO year.
In order to understand and embrace this wonderful CAN DO God, we need to understand a few “CAN’T”S from God’s Word. These Can not’s help understand how we can live in God’s will.
So here are the foundational Truth’s for our Journey into the Will of God and seeing Him as our CAN DO GOD!
Amazingly Gained by the way God used cannot in the New Testament

Hussein's Garden
The Gabaliya Bedouin live in the high mountains of the Sinai peninsular in Egypt. This region includes Mount Sinai where Moses spoke to God and St Catherine's Monastery, the oldest constantly inhabited Christian building on earth. The area has strong religious significance for Christians, Muslims and Jews.
Gabaliya means 'of the mountain' and legend has it that in these bedouin were sent by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian to protect St Catherine's monastery.
The high mountain area is a unique environment and the bedouin have adapted their lives to survive in this arid desert landscape. Hussein's garden is typical of the remote walled gardens established and tended by the bedouin for generations. This was filmed in March when the trees were covered in blossom. The harvest season starts in June with apricots.
We travelled with www.bedouinpaths.com. They organize trekking and trips into these remote and spectacular mountains.

The Inaugural Henry Cole Lecture: Sir Christopher Frayling, 30 October 2008
The inaugural Henry Cole Lecture, held at the V&A; Museum in London on 30 October 2008. The purpose of the lecture is to celebrate the legacy of the Museum’s founding director, and explore its implications for museums, culture and society today.
The lecture, entitled 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum' was delivered by Professor Sir Christopher Frayling. He presented new research on the “chamber of horrors” (a contemporary nickname for one of the V&A;'s earliest galleries, 'Decorations on False Principles', that opened in 1852) and the myths and realities of its reception, then opened up a wider debate on design education and museums from the nineteenth century to the present day.
Transcript:
Mark Jones: The annual Henry Cole lecture has been initiated to celebrate Henry Cole's legacy and to explore the contribution that culture can make to education and society today. It has also been launched to celebrate the opening of the Sackler Centre for arts education, including the Hochhauser Auditorium in which we sit tonight. There could be no one better than Professor Sir Christopher Frayling to give the inaugural Henry Cole Lecture. Christopher is a rare being: an intellectual who is a great communicator; a theorist who has a firm grip on the practical realities of life: a writer who truly and instinctively understands the words of making design and visual communication. As an enormously successful and respected Rector of the Royal College of Art, as Chairman of the Arts Council, and as a member and chair of boards too numerous to mention - but not forgetting the Royal Mint Advisory Committee which has recently been responsible for redesigning the coinage (personal interest) and as by far the longest-serving Trustee of the V&A;, he brings together culture, education and public service in a way which Henry Cole would have approved and admired. So it's more than fitting that he should be giving this first Henry Cole Lecture, 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum'.
CHRISTOPHER FRAYLING:
Thank you very much indeed Mark and thank you very much for inviting me to give this first Henry Cole Lecture. Just how much of an honour it is for me will I hope become clear as the lecture progresses.
Mark, Chairpeople, ladies and gentlemen:
Hidden away in the garden of the South Kensington Museum - now the Madejski Garden of the V&A; - there is a small and easily overlooked commemorative plaque that doesn't have a museum number. It reads: 'In Memory of Jim Died 1879 Aged 15 Years, Faithful Dog of Sir Henry Cole of this Museum'. Jim had in fact died on 30 January 1879. He was with Henry Cole in his heyday, as the king of South Kensington - its museums and colleges - and saw him through to retirement from the public service and beyond. And next to this inscription there's another one dedicated to Jim's successor, Tycho, and dated 1885. The dogs are actually buried in the garden. Now we know from Henry Cole's diary that between 1864 and 1879 Jim, who was a cairn terrier, was often to be seen in public at his master's side. In 1864 they were together inspecting the new memorial to the Great Exhibition of 1851 just behind the Albert Hall - a statue of Prince Albert by Joseph Durham on a lofty plinth covered in statistics about the income, expenditure and visitor numbers to the Great Exhibition: 6,039,195 to be exact. Cole had been a tireless champion of Prince Albert and according to the Princess Royal (later Empress of Prussia) there was a family saying in Buckingham Palace at the time, invented by Albert himself, that when things needed doing 'when we want steam we must get Cole'. We may therefore assume that when looking at the memorial, Cole was interested in the inscription, the statistics and the likeness of Prince Albert, while Jim was more interested in the possibilities of the plinth. In early 1866 - these are five studies of Jim, an etching by Henry Cole himself of 1864. In early 1866, first thing in the morning, soon after the workmen's bell had rung, Henry and Jim would set forth together from Cole's newly constructed official residence in the Museum (where he moved in July 1863) to tour the building sites of South Kensington - a name which was first invented by Cole when he re-named the museum The South Kensington Museum to describe the new developments happening around Brompton Church. According to 'The Builder' magazine, these two well-known figures would 'be seen clambering over bricks, mortar and girders up ladders and about scaffolding'. Several buildings in the South Kensington Renaissance Revival style were springing up all around them: The Natural History Museum, The College of Science, the extension to this Museum. And on the morning the Bethnal Green Museum opened - 24 June 1872 - Jim showed a healthy distaste for his master's well-known predilection for pomp and

600 Christian Families Flee after Pakistan Blasphemy Laws used to Arrest Young Christian Girl
Some 100 Christians have been sleeping in a forest in Pakistan after a member of their group was accused of violating the country's strict blasphemy laws. They're building a new church out of branches in the secluded area after fleeing their neighbourhood out of fear. Their ordeal began recently when a Christian girl was accused by a neighbour of burning pages of the Quran. Much of the case is still in question including the girl's age, whether she is mentally impaired and what exactly she was burning. But as word of the blasphemy accusation spread, hundreds of people gathered at her house demanding something be done to the girl. The police eventually arrested her and are now investigating. Sajid Ishaq, the chairman of the Pakistan Interfaith League, says some 600 families have fled the neighbourhood and that his groups is calling for an investigation into what role religious extremism played in ignighting the case. Sajid Ishaq, Chairman of Pakistan Interfaith League: "They are actually now taking refuge with their families and friends, host families, churches also. So they are actually fearful and we are trying our best to send them home safely and we are also demanding to the government that they should give them the compensation of the loss." The issue of blasphemy is an extremely sensitive issue in Pakistan where critics say it's often abused to settle vendettas or as retribution.
