I often get questions from prospective students about accommodation in London generally and especially at LSE so I've teamed up with several students from across the university to run a mini series looking round all the different accommodation options. I really hope this is useful, it's a bit tricky to put together at the moment as I'm not currently in London, instead I'm still studying online for university (London School of Economics). The LSE accommodation website gives some really good key facts on the accommodation options but it can be hard to gauge the vibe of the different halls when you can't visit so hopefully that helps with that!

Hello lovely Saemiful Familie,
I hope all of you have been staying healthy and happy.
As many people have approached me in the past weeks asking me questions about life at LSE as well as housing in London, here I came back with this video.
In today's video, I explain reasons why I chose LSE's student accommodation hall, Butler's wharf, to be my home during my master's study program and provide an overview of student accommodation halls available for LSE postgrad students.

LSE’s foundational relationship with the Fabian Society — most prominently via founding members Beatrice and Sidney Webb — is well known. The LSE South Asia Centre is collaborating with the Fabian Society to curate a series of events that will unravel the complexities that underpinned the Fabians’ engagement with and about South Asia, their influence on Labour’s articulation of decolonisation in post-World War 2 Britain, and of the longer term association of several LSE Fabians with the region. From the retrospective advantage of our current hindsight, several actions of LSE Fabians in Britain seem counter-intuitive, grate against our good senses, and complicate our understanding of them. There is a deeper and lesser known story here; our events will explore this tension, tangled in the wider context of race, class, eugenics, Empire, imperialism, historiography, and attendant debates, motored by global political imperatives and intellectual movements of the 19th-20th centuries.

During the Easter Break of 2017, when students were busy preparing for their cumulative final examinations, a noisy construction project invaded the residence. Students were not consulted and no effective steps were taken to mitigate disturbance. Unite Students' contractors carried out the disruptive construction over a 7-week period, with only a 1-week pause due to student protests, after which noisy construction resumed as before. Students' ability to prepare for their exams and their own well-being was seriously impacted, during this period of lax security and demolition on the premises.

Sidney Webb, 1st Baron Passfield
Sidney James Webb, 1st Baron Passfield OM PC (13 July 1859 – 13 October 1947) was a British socialist, economist, reformer and a co-founder of the London School of Economics. He was one of the early members of the Fabian Society in 1884, along with George Bernard Shaw (they joined three months after its inception). Along with his wife Beatrice Webb, Annie Besant, Graham Wallas, Edward R. Pease, Hubert Bland, and Sydney Olivier, Shaw and Webb turned the Fabian Society into the pre-eminent political-intellectual society of England during the Edwardian era and beyond. He wrote the original Clause IV for the British Labour Party.
Background and education
Webb was born in London to a professional family. He studied law at the Birkbeck Literary and Scientific Institution for a degree of the University of London in his spare time, while holding down an office job. He also studied at King's College London, prior to being called to the Bar in 1885.
Professional life
In 1895 he helped to establish the London School of Economics, using a bequest left to the Fabian Society. He was appointed Professor of Public Administration in 1912, a post he held for fifteen years. In 1892, Webb married Beatrice Potter, who shared his interests and beliefs. The money she brought with her enabled him to give up his clerical job and concentrate on his other activities. Sidney and Beatrice Webb founded the New Statesman magazine in 1913.

Sidney Webb (cricketer)
Sidney Webb (1 February 1875 – 4 April 1923) was an English cricketer active from 1897 to 1905 who played for Lancashire, Middlesex and Griqualand West. He was born in Kensington and died in Ilford. He appeared in 83 first-class matches as a righthanded batsman who bowled right arm medium pace. He scored 554 runs with a highest score of 38* and held 58 catches. He took 302 wickets with a best analysis of eight for 36.

Sid Webb
Sidney Webb (February 1884 – 1956) was an English professional footballer who played in the Football League for Birmingham. He played as an inside forward.
Webb was born in Coventry. He gained a good reputation playing in the Birmingham & District League for Stourbridge, Burton United and Wednesbury Old Athletic, and spent a season with Aston Villa, though never progressed beyond the reserves. In April 1911 Webb, described as a "rotund little schemer", joined Second Division club Birmingham. He made his debut on the opening day of the 1911–12 season, in a 3–2 home defeat against Bradford Park Avenue, and kept his place for the next two games, but that was the extent of his career in the Football League. Webb then returned to the Birmingham League with Worcester City, where he scored 12 goals in the next two seasons.
Webb died in Leamington, Warwickshire, in 1956.

Hello lovely Saemiful Familie,
I hope all of you have been staying healthy and happy.
As many people have approached me in the past weeks asking me questions about life at LSE as well as housing in London, here I came back with this video.
In today's video, I explain reasons why I chose LSE's student accommodation hall, Butler's wharf, to be my home during my master's study program and provide an overview of student accommodation halls available for LSE postgrad students.

LSE’s foundational relationship with the Fabian Society — most prominently via founding members Beatrice and Sidney Webb — is well known. The LSE South Asia Centre is collaborating with the Fabian Society to curate a series of events that will unravel the complexities that underpinned the Fabians’ engagement with and about South Asia, their influence on Labour’s articulation of decolonisation in post-World War 2 Britain, and of the longer term association of several LSE Fabians with the region. From the retrospective advantage of our current hindsight, several actions of LSE Fabians in Britain seem counter-intuitive, grate against our good senses, and complicate our understanding of them. There is a deeper and lesser known story here; our events will explore this tension, tangled in the wider context of race, class, eugenics, Empire, imperialism, historiography, and attendant debates, motored by global political imperatives and intellectual movements of the 19th-20th centuries.

Students were not consulted and no effective steps were taken to mitigate disturbance. Unite Students' contractors carried out the disruptive construction over a 7-week period, with only a 1-week pause due to student protests, after which noisy construction resumed as before. Students' ability to prepare for their exams and their own well-being was seriously impacted, during this period of lax security and demolition on the premises.

I often get questions from prospective students about accommodation in London generally and especially at LSE so I've teamed up with several students from across the university to run a mini series looking round all the different accommodation options. I really hope this is useful, it's a bit tricky to put together at the moment as I'm not currently in London, instead I'm still studying online for university (London School of Economics). The LSE accommodation website gives some really good key facts on the accommodation options but it can be hard to gauge the vibe of the different halls when you can't visit so hopefully that helps with that!

LSE’s foundational relationship with the Fabian Society — most prominently via founding members Beatrice and Sidney Webb — is well known. The LSE South Asia Centre is collaborating with the Fabian Society to curate a series of events that will unravel the complexities that underpinned the Fabians’ engagement with and about South Asia, their influence on Labour’s articulation of decolonisation in post-World War 2 Britain, and of the longer term association of several LSE Fabians with the region. From the retrospective advantage of our current hindsight, several actions of LSE Fabians in Britain seem counter-intuitive, grate against our good senses, and complicate our understanding of them. There is a deeper and lesser known story here; our events will explore this tension, tangled in the wider context of race, class, eugenics, Empire, imperialism, historiography, and attendant debates, motored by global political imperatives and intellectual movements of the 19th-20th centuries.

During the Easter Break of 2017, when students were busy preparing for their cumulative final examinations, a noisy construction project invaded the residence. Students were not consulted and no effective steps were taken to mitigate disturbance. Unite Students' contractors carried out the disruptive construction over a 7-week period, with only a 1-week pause due to student protests, after which noisy construction resumed as before. Students' ability to prepare for their exams and their own well-being was seriously impacted, during this period of lax security and demolition on the premises.

Sidney James Webb, 1st Baron Passfield OM PC (13 July 1859 – 13 October 1947) was a British socialist, economist, reformer and a co-founder of the London School of Economics. He was one of the early members of the Fabian Society in 1884, along with George Bernard Shaw (they joined three months after its inception). Along with his wife Beatrice Webb, Annie Besant, Graham Wallas, Edward R. Pease, Hubert Bland, and Sydney Olivier, Shaw and Webb turned the Fabian Society into the pre-eminent political-intellectual society of England during the Edwardian era and beyond. He wrote the original Clause IV for the British Labour Party.
Background and education
Webb was born in London to a professional family. He studied law at the Birkbeck Literary and Scientific Institution for a degree of the University of London in his spare time, while holding down an office job. He also studied at King's College London, prior to being called to the Bar in 1885.
Professional life
In 1895 he helped to establish the London School of Economics, using a bequest left to the Fabian Society. He was appointed Professor of Public Administration in 1912, a post he held for fifteen years. In 1892, Webb married Beatrice Potter, who shared his interests and beliefs. The money she brought with her enabled him to give up his clerical job and concentrate on his other activities. Sidney and Beatrice Webb founded the New Statesman magazine in 1913.
