Union Creek, Ore.
A group of twelve on a fun day out on the Rogue River suffered a tragic loss Saturday afternoon. According to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the family took three rafts downriver from Woodruff Bridge Campground around 3:00 that afternoon.
Four-year-old Brayden Biggs lost his life that day. His family told rescue crews he and everyone else on the first raft went into the river when it flipped over on the Takelma Gorge. The Sheriff's Office says Brayden was the only one not to make it back to shore alive.
David Thrapp is the camp host at Farewell Bend Campground near the gorge. He said firefighters working to put out wildfires in the area found the rafters.
"The fire-fighting helicopter flying overhead fighting the national complex fire found a group of capzied rafters in the river in a cliffy area," Thrapp said.
First responders with Mercy Flights asked Thrapp to help with the search and rescue mission.
"I met with the Mercy Flight driver, and brought him down here to this location to look for the possible rafters that were stuck in the cliffy area," Thrapp said.
Thrapp said this stretch of the river is dangerous.
"You've got channels and flumes, rough waters, the undertow is extremely fast. And it's too much to flirt with the devil," he said.
Campers at Farewell Bend often want to swim or raft in the river near the campground. Thrapp said he warns them every time.
"I highly don't recommend it. It's your own risk. There is really no reward in doing it," he said.
Thrapp said the river does not have signs cautioning people about unsafe areas.
"There are no signs, however, common sense should be the basis of 'should I do this' or not," he said.
Brayden was found unconscious by kayakers 200 yards from where the boat capsized. Search and rescue crews say the lack of cell service and the remote location made it hard to get help fast.

Meet the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers, introduced by Janet Weber, Assistant to the Grandmother's Council. Janet has been affiliated with the Center for Sacred Studies since the mid-1990s, and is an Interfaith Minister. Her work is in support of native elders and teachings of the Sacred Hoop.
DESCRIPTION OF THE GRANDMOTHER'S COUNCIL
[Compiled by Interfaith Minister Janet Weber, The Center for Sacred Studies]
This unique council of indigenous women elders, some who are in their 80s, are from Arctic Alaska, the Amazon/Brazil, Tibet, Nepal, Gabon, tribes in Oregon, Mexico, New Zealand, Lapland, as well as Hopi, Lakota, Arapaho, and Mayan peoples. The Grandmothers Council is heralding the return of the Sacred Feminine on the planet—as foretold in many prophecies. The Grandmothers serve as healers, shamans and spiritual leaders in their communities as well as internationally.
The Council was initiated by a visionary woman named Jyoti (Jeanne Prevatt, Ph.D.), who serves as Director of the Center for Sacred Studies in California. The Grandmothers first met in Upstate New York 2004 at the Global Women's Gathering, with Gloria Steinem, Alice Walker, Wilma Mankiller, Tenzing Palmo and others.
Every 6 months the Grandmothers meet at another homeland offering prayer ceremonies from their traditions, then holding council on the environment, youth, education, women's wisdom and empowerment, prophecy, protection of ceremony, medicine plants, etc. Past meetings include in Mexico, Brazil, N. Mexico; plus Dharamsala, India with the Dalai Lama in fall 2006, and the Black Hills, South Dakota in June 2007, homeland of the Lakota people. In 2007, the Grandmothers gathered at the Bioneers Conference in San Francisco, California, and in 2008, the Grandmothers gathered in Gabon, West Africa, Spain, France and Italy. Most recently, they again gathered at Omega Institute in Upstate New York in August 2009, in Portland, Oregon in September 2009, and again in Sedona, Arizona in December 2009. The Grandmothers share their wisdom, dreams and concerns and are moving ahead with declarations and networking with other organizations locally and globally.
In December 2009, Emmy Award winning Producer/Director Carole Hart, one of the original writers for Sesame Street, released the powerfully spiritual feature-length film For the Next Seven Generations. The opening premiere held in New York City was hosted by Donna Karan and the film is now being screened at local festivals and in communities across the countries.

4th Grandmother's Gathering
September 10-13, 2009
More Information: http://www.themorningstarfoundation.org
W.O.M.B. is a grassroots movement of the Life-Givers of our Mother Earth. Our initial commitment is to hold 4 consecutive gatherings, on Native land, with the permission of the Tribal, GrandMother, Elders of that Native land. This project will bring together both Indigenous and non-Indigenous women of all ages, from all around the world. Our intent is to create a safe environment, following Traditional protocols, to make it possible for the GrandMother Wisdom-Keepers to openly share their teachings, sacred songs, stories, prophesies and ceremonies, outside their Indigenous communities. Through this spiritual process, healing can take place for each individual woman, which will allow healing to take place from the rememberance of past genocides, thereby healing the diversity of the sacred circle of all Life Givers. By honoring and respecting the Beauty Ways of our female energy (too many to list) we can help bring back balance to our Mother Earth and heal the wounds of her people; with one Voice, one Heart and one Chanupa.
