Are the Rolling Stones coming to Australia?
That's the rumour going around. The Rolling Stones, the greatest Rolling Stones cover band on Earth, are apparently being "wooed" by the South Australian state government to play the debut show at the new $500 million Adelaide Oval.
According to The Advertiser, "top-level sources" are saying the band are in talks to play a string of stadium shows as well as the Adelaide Oval debut next year, with Michael Gudinski's Frotier Touring a frontrunner to present the tour. Adelaide Premier Jay Weatherill said "There is a lot of speculation about the opening of the Adelaide Oval but at this stage it is just speculation." Ah, the old under-promise then over-deliver maneuver.
However, Opposition Leader Steven Marshall has pointed out that "While Mr Weatherill is considering throwing money at The Rolling Stones, his Government is cutting nurses and health services." So if Mick's hip goes, or Keith suffers another blow to the head on stage, what will Adelaide do then?
The Rolling Stones have become notorious for their exorbitant ticket prices, so if their recent show at Hyde Park was any indication, where general admission tickets reached as much as $560, Adelaide fans might expect to get another mortgage for their French holiday homes in order to see the wrinkly rockers perform live.
