Providence Park

Providence Park (formerly Jeld-Wen Field; PGE Park; Civic Stadium; originally Multnomah Stadium; and from 1893 until the stadium was built, Multnomah Field) is an outdoor sports venue located in the Goose Hollow neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, United States. The MLS Portland Timbers soccer team use the facility as their home pitch, as do the NWSL's Portland Thorns FC and the USL PDL Timbers U23s. The NCAA Division I FCS Portland State Vikings football team uses the park during the Big Sky season. The stadium has been host to several major sporting events including Soccer Bowl '77, the 1999 and 2003 FIFA Women's World Cups, the 2009 Triple-A All-Star Game, the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and the 2014 MLS All-Star Game.

Originally, the park was owned by the Multnomah Athletic Club and used by their amateur sports teams. In the 1950s, the PCL Portland Beavers baseball team moved out of Vaughn Street Park into what was then known as "Multnomah Stadium". In 1966, the city purchased the stadium and renamed it "Civic Stadium". It was renovated in 2001 to accommodate the Beavers, who had not played at the park since the early 1990s. The naming rights of the stadium were purchased by Portland General Electric and it was renamed "PGE Park". In 2010, the park underwent renovations again, this time so it could accommodate the Portland Timbers MLS franchise and a year later the rights to the stadiums name were sold, this time to Jeld-Wen. In 2014, the name was changed again to "Providence Park" after Providence Health & Services bought the naming rights. The stadium sits on a rectangular block bounded by Southwest Morrison Street, Southwest 18th Avenue, the Multnomah Athletic Club building and Southwest Salmon Street, and Southwest 20th Avenue.

Providence Park MAX Station

Providence Park station is a light rail station on the MAX Blue and Red lines located in the Goose Hollow neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. It is named after the adjacent stadium, Providence Park. The station primarily serves Providence Park and residential areas around West Burnside Street. The station, consisting of separate eastbound and westbound platforms built into city sidewalks between SW 17th and SW 18th Avenues on SW Yamhill and SW Morrison Streets, opened on August 31, 1997. Originally named Civic Stadium station, it was renamed to PGE Park station in 2001, Jeld-Wen Field in 2011, and to its present name in 2014, each time following changes in the name of the stadium.

Tracks split just outside the station on SW 18th Ave. into eastbound tracks on SW Yamhill St. and westbound tracks on SW Morrison St. This split results in a transit mall east to SW 1st Ave.

The Morrison platform is at an angle to the street grid and has a regular side platform which fronts a small public plaza. There is also a second platform and storage track used for special events. The Yamhill Street platform takes the entire block and features unique seating shaped like punctuation marks. A large apartment complex occupies the space between the platforms.

Jeld-Wen

JELD-WEN is a corporation with over 100 divisions and 20,000 employees in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia. The business manufactures building products, including windows, interior and exterior doors, and related building products. Jeld-Wen owns several distribution facilities and operates several resort properties. It was founded in 1960 as a millwork plant in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where the global headquarters still is. Since 2012 Charlotte, North Carolina is the new North American headquarters of the company. In 2015, Jeld-Wen was recognized for the top spot for brand familiarity (Door: Interior Passage and Window: Vinyl) by the Builder magazine.

History

The company was founded in 1960 in the Southern Oregon town of Klamath Falls when Richard Wendt and four others purchased a mill. In 2010, Wendt died and the company sold off many resorts that it had developed in the Western United States. The privately held company sold off 58 percent of the company to Onex in a deal worth $864 million.
