General Info

The following is general information for conference attendees including what to bring.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at info@studentsofsustainabilty.org.

Registration – rego opens at 1pm on Thursday the 4th of July (dinner provided) and will be open from 8.30am to 6pm every day of the conference.  Attendees are welcome to stay the night of the 9th of July and breakfast will be provided on the 10th for those who do, prior to the closing ceremony.  All conference attendees must be registered when they arrive – unregistered people will be considered trespassers.

Expected Behaviour

We all want to have an awesome time at SoS so there are some housekeeping rules to go over to keep everyone happy.  Participants are encouraged to use safe, positive and constructive behaviour at all times.  A norms session will be conducted at the start of the conference to clarify how everyone is to treat one another.

Everyone attending SoS is expected to follow any instruction given by members of the organising collective, University security team, safety patrol and grievance collective.  Warnings will be given for minor misconduct and failure to comply with instructions may result in expulsion from the conference.

As we will be camping near a residential area, nightime noise needs to be kept to a minimum.

Childcare – childcare will be available during SoS.  We will ask whether you require childcare when you buy your ticket and provide care accordingly.  Any child under 12 is required to have full time adult supervision.

Staying Safe

  • Walkways – participants are required to use designated cross walks for pedestriation travel between all conference venues as detailed in the conference handbook.
  • Drugs & Alcohol – no drugs are permitted at SoS.  Anyone found with illicit substances will be expelled from the conference.  No BYO Alcohol is permitted on the UTAS campus.
  • Trees – no one is to climb trees or erect any structure within a tree.

Valuables – attendees are advised to keep valuables with them at all times and not to leave them unattended.

Animals - sorry but no animals are allowed on campus, please find alternative accommodation for your pet if you bring them such as a boarding kennell.

Facilities – all participants are expected to use toilet and shower facilities provided and keep them in a clean and tidy state – that means no bushes!

Fires – no fires are permitted other than those set up by the organising collective.  These fires will be continually supervised.

Parking – whilst attendees are encouraged to use public transport wherever possible, there is limited free parking available in the carpark directly in front of the marquee on a first come, first served basis.

Weather – temperatures in Launceston in July are likely to be between -2 degrees celsius at night and 15 degrees during the day.  We will send out a forecast update in the week leading up to the conference.
