JavaOne is an annual conference inaugurated in 1996 by Sun Microsystems to discuss Java technologies, primarily among Java developers. JavaOne is held in San Francisco, California typically running from Monday to Thursday. Technical sessions on a variety of topics are held during the day. In the evening, Birds of a Feather (BOF) sessions are held. BOF sessions allow people to focus in on a particular aspect of Java technology.

Access to the technical sessions, keynote presentations, exhibits and BOF sessions requires a conference pass which usually costs between $1795 to $1995 USD.

In 1999, the conference played host to an event called the Hackathon, a challenge set by John Gage. Attendees were to write a program in Java for the new Palm V using the infrared port to communicate with other Palm users and register the device on the Internet.

During the 2008 conference, 67 Moscone Center staff members and three attendees were sickened by an outbreak of norovirus.

JavaOne 2010, the first conference to be run after the acquisition of Sun by Oracle Corporation, was held September 19–23, concurrently with Oracle OpenWorld. This was the first year that the conference was not held at Moscone Center, instead hosted at three hotels on nearby Mason Street, one block of which was closed and covered with a tent, which formed part of the conference venue. JavaOne 2011 was held October 2–6, in the same venue configuration as in 2010.

James A. Gosling, OC (born May 19, 1955 near Calgary, Alberta, Canada) is a computer scientist, best known as the father of the Java programming language.

In 1977, Gosling received a B.Sc in Computer Science from the University of Calgary. In 1983, he earned a Ph.D in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University, and his doctoral thesis was titled "Algebraic Constraints". His thesis advisor was Bob Sproull. While working towards his doctorate, he wrote a version of Emacs (gosmacs), and before joining Sun Microsystems he built a multi-processor version of Unix while at Carnegie Mellon University, as well as several compilers and mail systems.

Between 1984 and 2010, Gosling was with Sun Microsystems. He is known as the father of the Java programming language.

On April 2, 2010, Gosling left Sun Microsystems which had recently been acquired by the Oracle Corporation. Regarding why he left, Gosling wrote on his blog that "Just about anything I could say that would be accurate and honest would do more harm than good." He has since taken a very critical stance towards Oracle in interviews, noting that "During the integration meetings between Sun and Oracle, where we were being grilled about the patent situation between Sun and Google, we could see the Oracle lawyer's eyes sparkle." Later, during the Oracle vs. Google trial over Android, he clarified his position saying "Just because Sun didn't have patent suits in our genetic code doesn't mean we didn't feel wronged. While I have differences with Oracle, in this case they are in the right. Google totally slimed Sun. We were all really disturbed, even Jonathan: he just decided to put on a happy face and tried to turn lemons into lemonade, which annoyed a lot of folks at Sun."

Bruno Fernandes das Dores de Souza (born December 23, 1984 in Ribeirão das Neves), known as Bruno, is a former Brazilian football goalkeeper. As of July 2010, his contract has been suspended from Flamengo, where he had spent most of his career.

He is currently in jail, awaiting trial for assault and murder of his former girlfriend and mother of his youngest child.

Bruno played his first match at the professional level for Atlético Mineiro.

In 2006, Bruno was signed by investment fund Media Sports Investments, which has been linked to various transactions with Atlético-MG; the deal was speculated to have been worth around € 2 million, plus 15% on a future deal. He went on to sign a contract, until the end of the year, with Corinthians, then a partner of MSI. However, following manager Émerson Leão's continuous refusal to play Bruno over home-grown keeper Marcelo, Bruno became deeply unsatisfied. With no match played for Corinthians, he was loaned out to Flamengo.

At his new side, Bruno arrived in the same week Diego, first team goalkeeper at the time, suffered an injury. He instantly replaced incumbent Diego as first choice goalkeeper. He debuted in a match against Internacional and delivered some impressive performances, cementing his starting position between the posts for the rest of the season. In 2007, he became a fan favourite for his great showings, specially on penalties, by making three saves in the Rio de Janeiro State Championship 2007 finals against Botafogo, helping Flamengo become the champions. Throughout the year, it was speculated that Bruno would depart for Europe, with MSI wishing to cash-in on him, and the goalkeeper was linked with FC Barcelona.
