Canberra Trans, Intersex and Genderqueer Support Groups

0 Trackbacks There are a number of groups that you can approach for support and advice, if you are a trans, intersex, genderqueer or gender questioning individual. There are also groups here for friends, partners, parents and so on, of the sex and gender diverse community. If you aren't sure which group to join, consider joining our events list and coming along to our next event, and talking to us in person. Check out our groups for: - Adult Trans folk - Youth - Parents - Significant Others, Family, Friends and Allies - Others --- Adults New Canberra Transgender Network Currently the longest running transgender group in the ACT, NewCTN is a friendly group who have an email list, and meet several times a month for coffee, dinner, or movies and have monthly private support group meetings at Westlund House. Most of the current participants in this group are older, mostly heterosexual male-to-female cross dressers, or trans women who are early in their transition. However, there are increasing numbers of trans men and younger people coming to their events, and NewCTN are very clear that they are welcoming of everyone regardless of their gender or sexuality. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Trans Women, MTF's and GQ's Due to popular demand, A Gender Agenda have an established a list specifically for MTF spectrum people of all gender-expressions and sexualities. This email list is to faciliated communication, events organising, and support for trans women, genderqueers and other male-to-female spectrum identities. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Trans Men, FTM's, and GQ's A Gender Agenda provide an email list for FTM spectrum people of all genders-expressions and sexualities. We organise various meet ups via that list, but are not nearly as organised as NewCTN. Most gatherings tend to be informal, and to a certain extent impromptu. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Youth Under 30's Transgender, Intersex, Genderqueer, Questioning, Allies + Friends Group More informally known as the 'Youth Group', this group is a fairly even mix of trans girls, trans boys, genderqueers, partners, allies, friends and queer-family. Its a pretty laid back group, that is still quite new. The group is still finding its feet, and coming up with new ideas for events. They meet for coffee about once a month at least, and these meetings are fairly well publicised through out Canberra's LGBT communication channels. A Gender Agenda also provide the Youth Group with an email list, which is the easiest way to keep up with what is going on. Parents Family Pride A.C.T Queer Playgroup From their Yahoo Group: "Family Pride ACT is a social group for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex community, their families and their friends in the ACT. Everyone is welcome ~ people with children of all ages, people thinking of having children, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends …… and any other family configuration you can think of!" Family Pride ACT, is also known as 'Queer Playgroup', and is an informal, but active social group for queer parents, and the parents of queer children. This 'LGBTI' group isn't just LGBTI in name, but also in spirit. Rainbow Playgroup There is a new Rainbow play group in Canberra for same sex parents and their bubs. We also welcome couples who are thinking about, or currently going through, Assisted Conception (e.g. IVF, Insemination, Surrogacy etc) and who would like to talk to other couples who have been through this experience. Our group provides a chance for our bubs to meet and play as well as for same sex couples to meet other couples who have young children. We meet monthly at each other's houses. We have extremely limited financial resources, and as yet no physical venue, but we can advertise your group on our website, and provide you with an email list for discussion.
