Read Me First: Important Information

There are a number of enquiries that are made to A Gender Agenda on a regular basis, which you may find the answer to here. If you have more questions, feel free to contact us.

1. I think I'm a transsexual! I'm freaking out! Help!

If you are freaking out, and feel like you need to talk to someone right now, call one of these numbers:

Now take a deep breath. Another one. Good. Now don't worry too much!

Being transsexual or transgendered, or any of the other sex and gender diverse identities out there is not the end of the world. Sometimes the realisation that you are, or might be trans, can be a bit of a shock. This is especially true if you don't feel like you fit the traditional model of transsexuality.

People come out to themselves as trans at all stages of life, from as young as 3 or 4 years old, to as old as their 80's! Just like some gay and lesbian people marry, have children, and finally come out later in life, the same thing happens to trans people all the time!

The best thing to do is to keep an open mind, read widely about sex and gender diverse experience, and perhaps come along to a community event or meeting and meet some other trans people. We don't all look how you would expect, and just that can help reassure some people.

2. I am trans/intersex/genderqueer, and I need emergency financial help and/or accommodation! Can you help?

AGA hopes to one day be in a position to assist trans people in need, however we are unfunded and operate entirely off donations and the work of our volunteers. There are some Australian organisations that you can contact for emergency assistance though.

  1. Financial Assistance
  2. Crisis Accommodation

3. I need legal advice, because I'm being unfairly treated because of the way I do my gender. Can you help?

A Gender Agenda is not able to provide legal advice because we aren't lawyers or soliciters. However, there are some handy free legal services that may be able to help you, which we have listed for your convenience.

  1. Legal Services

4. My NFP community organisation is holding a panel discussion/training session to help raise awareness about LGBT issues. Can you suggest someone who might be able to speak about transgender, intersex or genderqueer experiences?

Yes, we probably can! A Gender Agenda frequently send our volunteers to provide education to all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds. We do like at minimum a weeks notice, preferably more, because most of our volunteers have full time jobs, which they need to take time from in order to help you out. We really appreciate it if you can make a donation to A Gender Agenda to show us how much you appreciate our volunteers taking time off work, to come speak to your employees, volunteers or students.

For more information about our capacity and experience in offering training, or to request we come speak at your event, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
