Khmer audio Dhamma...We won't get merit either. So we invite and make preparations. If it's 50% merits to begin with, we will receive 100% after preparations. So we must make this preparations as an example, when we eat, we must invite others to eat so that when people eat our food, they wouldn't feel uneasy and cannot eat as much because some do mind about etiquette and cannot eat fully. Those who receive proper invitation may eat with a peaceful mind and tend to eat more fully. So between eating inadequately vs. fully by the people so that we may receive full merits, which should we choose? We must choose to eat fully. It is not like some people who says "What? We built the Buddha statue already, why do we have to make sure His eyes would open or not? We don't have to perform ceremonies to open His eyes." This way of thinking is no different than having cooked our foods and left them in the open for anybody to eat. Some do and some don't. In some cases, animals got to them first before humans get a chance. So there is not much use or merits to receive because we want to offer to humans to eat not animals. So whenever we built Buddha statue and we did not "puthear visaek berk pinnaet" or perform ceremonies of "chlang" or crossing, etc., it is like leaving the foods for the animals to eat. We would not get merits if at all, and prone to other lower things (praiy beisaik, derachan, asuras) to enter and cause havocs. So because of this or as a prevention, we should not follow those who say we don't need to do further ceremonies so that our efforts will be 100%. We must "puthear visaek" and "chlang" "bon-joss seima" in the name of our religion, ok? So, may all receive blessings.
