One of these days, the Rock Bridge boys soccer team is going to find a way to beat Chaminade.
But Thursday was not that day.
A week after playing a thrilling, tight match in the semifinals of the CYC/Bob Guelker Memorial Tournament at Soccer Park, Chaminade and Rock Bridge were back at it again in the Gateway City Soccer Classic Round Robin B.
A different day, a different place, the same result as Chaminade scored a 1-0 win over Rock Bridge.
The No. 1 team in the STLhighschoolsports.com large-schools rankings, Chaminade (14-2) got the game-winning goal moments into the second half from AJ Anthon.
“At halftime we talked about making an adjustment, and I didn’t think it would work 50 seconds into the half,” Chaminade coach Mike Gauvain said. “Dominic Vella worked his butt off to force a turnover and laid it off to AJ, who hit a wonderful shot to the back post over the keeper.”
