The Florida Attorney General is an elected cabinet official in the U.S. state of Florida. The attorney general serves as the chief legal officer of the state.

The office is one of only three elected state cabinet posts, along with the Chief Financial Officer and Agriculture Commissioner. The current attorney general is Pam Bondi, who took office on January 4, 2011. Her term will expire on January 6, 2015.

As with the other two cabinet posts and the office of lieutenant governor, there is a limit of two four-year terms for the Attorney General. The Governor of Florida is restricted to two consecutive terms, with no lifetime limit on the number of terms he or she may serve.

The Attorney General appoints the Florida Solicitor General who serves at their pleasure. The current solicitor is Scott Makar.

The Florida Attorney General can be impeached for committing a "misdemeanor in office" by the State Legislature, and convicted and thereby removed from office by a two-thirds vote of the State Senate.

Its symbolic animals like the American alligator, Florida panther and the manatee, can be found in the Everglades, one of the most famous national parks in the world.

In most common law jurisdictions, the attorney general or attorney-general is the main legal advisor to the government, and in some jurisdictions he or she may also have executive responsibility for law enforcement or responsibility for public prosecutions.

The term is used to refer to any person who holds a general power of attorney to represent a principal in all matters. In the common law tradition, anyone who represents the state, especially in criminal prosecutions, is such an attorney. Although a government may designate some official as the permanent attorney general, anyone who comes to represent the state in the same way is referred to as such, even if only for a particular case.

In Australia the Attorney-General is the chief law officer of the Crown and a member of the Cabinet. The Attorney-General is the minister responsible for legal affairs, national and public security and the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation. Nicola Roxon is the current Attorney-General.

The Australian states each have an Attorney-General, who is a state minister with similar responsibilities to the federal minister with respect to state law.

Pamela Jo Bondi (born November 17, 1965) is the current Attorney General of Florida.

Bondi's hometown is Temple Terrace, Florida. Her father, Joseph Bondi, was a City Councilman and then Mayor of Temple Terrace. She is a graduate of C. Leon King High School in Tampa, Florida. Bondi graduated from the University of Florida in 1987 with a degree in Criminal Justice. She then graduated from Stetson Law School with a JD in 1990 and was admitted to the Florida Bar on June 24, 1991.

She is a former prosecutor and spokeswoman in Hillsborough County, Florida where she worked as an Assistant State Attorney. Bondi resigned this position to seek the office of Attorney General of Florida. She has made guest appearances on Scarborough Country with Joe Scarborough and various other cable news programming on MSNBC and worked for Fox News as a legal analyst.

Bondi prosecuted former Major League Baseball player Dwight Gooden for violating the terms of his probation and for substance abuse. Bondi also prosecuted the Martin Anderson death defendants.

Samuel Scott Olens (born July 8, 1957) is the Attorney General for the state of Georgia. Previously, he was the chairman of the Cobb County Commission. He defeated former District Attorney Ken Hodges in the 2010 state elections in Georgia. Olens is the first person of the Jewish faith to win a statewide, partisan race in Georgia.

Olens is a Florida native, who was raised in New Jersey. He was elected to the Cobb County Commission in 1998, serving until 2010. He was the commission's chairman from 2002 to 2010. Since 2004, he has served as the chair of the Atlanta Regional Commission.

Olens defeated state senator Preston Smith to win the Republican nomination for attorney general. In the general election, he defeated former Dougherty County District Attorney Ken Hodges.
