Elliot Bay Triple Expansion steam engine running
This is the Elliot Bay Triple Expansion steam engine running for the 1st time on steam. The camera seems to pick up the high-frequency noises far better than in reality. Most of the noise comes from the loose flywheel which we use to load the engine with and water hammer as the steam pipe feeding the engine is very long and is not insulated. This also means that warming the engine up takes a long time. Some of the noise is also from the eccentrics as they are not tightened up yet as some of them need to come off to complete the engine. The engine is far from complete at the moment. The air/feed pump still needs machining and there are all the tiny bits like proper drain valves and the oil system to put on, then finally the wooden lagging. There are also no piston rings in yet. www.thesteamboatingforum.net

UFO over Elliott Bay Seattle, WA
After taking some time lapse photos, I noticed this strange light in the sky that was captured in 6 frames. Extremely bright, it radiated quite a bit of light in contrast to the ferry boats below as well it lights up the water. I live on the 23rd floor and know the flight paths of planes coming and going into SeaTac and the Coast Guard helicopter flight paths, this did not follow these typical paths in the least nor did it behave in flight as a plane or copter would. If you look close at the first and last frames when the object first appears and right before it exits the view, it actually looks like two separate objects flying close together. The background is Bainbridge Island with the Olympic Mountains in the background. Not being a math wiz, I would be interested in finding out the relative speed of the object. I was taking shots in 15 second intervals, the ferries are consistent in their speed and I would say they were about 1/4 mile out from my position. I know that when planes were coming in for approach to land I would only get one shot at most due to their speed so this object had to be moving rather slowly in real time. I've never been a true believer of this stuff per say but after this happened, I'm pretty convinced something is going on. Watch the close-up here: www.youtube.com

2010_July 1 - Argosy Cruise in Elliot Bay (Seattle)
Here are some shots of an Argosy cruise in Seattle's Elliot Bay. Shot with a Kodak Zi8. I went with a group at work, although most of us have lived in Seattle for years, it was very informative. It only takes an hour, so I highly recommend it for folks visiting our city. Also, the low-gray hanging clouds are just a disguise to keep people from moving here. We really do get day after day of beautiful, sunny weather in the summertime.

Alaska Way Viaduct Replacement Elliott Bay
Initiative 964 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON: NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The state of Washington has spent a lot of money and other resources investigating options that relate to improving or replacing the Alaskan Way viaduct. The people have clearly and consistently illustrated an ongoing and passionate desire to ensure that state taxpayers are protected. The people also realize that all state residents are concerned when problems arise from the use of taxpayer dollars to create the best possible solution for a new state route number 99 transportation system, and to evaluate its impact on Interstate 5 and other users and visitors to the downtown Seattle waterfront area. The people find that even if the state does not raise taxes, the government will consistently receive revenue growth greater than the rate of inflation every year. With this initiative, the people intend to protect taxpayers by ceasing further state expenditures on studies for current Alaskan Way viaduct options and requiring the department of transportation to consider a third option. Accordingly, the department of transportation shall review another option for the Alaskan Way viaduct project, the construction of a floating bridge highway across Elliot Bay.

Resident Orca J & K Pods Elliot Bay, Puget Sound, Seattle
Filmed by Ed Brooks from atop a bluff, the south end of Magnolia (Seattle, WA USA) October 28, 2012. Our time with the Southern Resident orca J & K pods began a couple of hours earlier on the shores of Alki/West Seattle where we watched as they moved southward towards Vashon Island. As the lead male approached the island, the pods turned back in a now northerly direction. Once they passed Alki point we headed north, stopping at on the high bluffs of Magnolia with a sweeping view of Puget Sound. In complete awe, we watched as the pods moved in a continues slow resting line. And just as the orca were moving out of sight, a bald eagle flew just below.
