Vat dyes are a class of dyes that are classified as such because of the method by which they are applied. Vat dyeing is a process that refers to dyeing that takes place in a bucket or vat. Almost any dye, including fiber-reactive dyes, direct dyes, and acid dyes, can be used in a vat dye. Cotton, wool, and other fibers can be all dyed with vat dyes. The original vat dye is indigo, once obtained from plants but now produced synthetically.
Although almost all dyeing can be done in a vat, the term vat dye is used to describe a chemical class of dyes that are applied to cellulosic fibre (i.e.. cotton) using a redox reaction as described below. Because of the use of caustic soda, and the very high pH of the dye bath in the dyeing process, wool cannot be dyed using vat dyestuffs. Wool is soluble in caustic soda solutions. It is possible to dye wool at room temperatures with indigo (vat blue 1) and other low substantive vat dyes using soda ash as the alkali source with very little strength loss. Vat red 10, vat violet 13 and vat orange 1 can be applied in this manner as well.
A dye is a colored substance that has an affinity to the substrate to which it is being applied. The dye is generally applied in an aqueous solution, and may require a mordant to improve the fastness of the dye on the fiber.
Both dyes and pigments are colored because they absorb some wavelengths of light more than others. In contrast to dyes, pigments are insoluble and have no affinity for the substrate. Some dyes can be precipitated with an inert salt to produce a lake pigment, and based on the salt used they could be aluminum lake, calcium lake or barium lake pigments. They are of many types as we know that indigo is a type of plant which was rashly cultivated in bangal by the Britishers as to make different color of dye.
The majority of natural dyes are from plant sources: roots, berries, bark, leaves, and wood, fungi, and lichens. Textile dyeing dates back to the Neolithic period. Throughout history, people have dyed their textiles using common, locally available materials. Scarce dyestuffs that produced brilliant and permanent colors such as the natural invertebrate dyes Tyrian purple and crimson kermes were highly prized luxury items in the ancient and medieval world. Plant-based dyes such as woad, indigo, saffron, and madder were raised commercially and were important trade goods in the economies of Asia and Europe. Across Asia and Africa, patterned fabrics were produced using resist dyeing techniques to control the absorption of color in piece-dyed cloth. Dyes from the New World such as cochineal and logwood were brought to Europe by the Spanish treasure fleets, and the dyestuffs of Europe were carried by colonists to America.
A dye is a colored substance that has an affinity to the substrate to which it is being applied.

Vat or VAT may refer to:
Synaptic vesicle membrane protein VAT-1 homolog is a protein that in humans is encoded by the VAT1 gene.
Synaptic vesicles are responsible for regulating the storage and release of neurotransmitters in the nerve terminal. The protein encoded by this gene is an abundant integral membrane protein of cholinergic synaptic vesicles and is thought to be involved in vesicular transport. It belongs to the quinone oxidoreductase subfamily of zinc-containing alcohol dehydrogenase proteins.
In melanocytic cells VAT1 gene expression may be regulated by MITF.
Vat 69 is a Scotch blended whisky created by William Sanderson & Son Limited of South Queensferry, Scotland, now part of Diageo. The whisky was at first bottled in port bottles.
William Sanderson was born in Leith, Scotland in 1839. He started an apprenticeship with a wine and spirituous liquors producer at the age of 13. By 1863, he already owned his own business producing liqueurs and whisky blends. In 1880, his son William Mark joined the business and persuaded his father to bottle various blends of whisky.
The iconic Vat 69 bottle with its bulbous neck was introduced to the market and was not changed for the next hundred years. In 1882, William Sanderson prepared one hundred casks of blended whisky and hired a panel of experts to taste them. The batch from the cask (or “vat”) with number 69 was judged to be the best, and this provided the whisky's brand name. The whisky was at first bottled in port bottles. In 1884, Sanderson bought the Glen Garioch distillery. It was situated in the middle of a barley field. The distillery was meant to ensure the delivery of grain whisky.

Jacquard founder Michael Katz takes us inside his dye studio (i.e., his green house) to demonstrate vat dyeing with SolarFast dyes. The challenge is to dye two large pieces of blended silk/rayon velvet to an intense, and even color. SolarFast dyes are generally used for sun-printing (they are light-activated), but they are formulated from vat dyes, which can also be activated chemically, without sunlight. Vat dyes have one very unique property: they are colorless in the dye bath! Fabric is saturated in the colorless dye (which is usually heated to about 80F), then dipped in an activation bath. As soon as the fabric goes into the second bath, it instantaneously becomes colored. You can see in the video how it instantly turns bright orange. Dyeing with vat dyes is a great way to achieve sup...

They'll look you in the eyes and stone you
Then turn and disown you, don't you let them take the fight outta you
They'll walk all over your name 'til they find someone else to blame, don't let them take the
fight outta you
Secrets hide their lies inside hidden alibis, don't let them take the fight outta you
They put the world on a hook, it's worse every time I look
Don't let them take the fight outta you
I would rather take a punch than not give you a shot
I'd rather find out who you are than who you're not
Should have known better than to mistake business for love
Should have known better than to mistake a fist for a glove
It will be in your honor 'til you're not needed any longer, don't let them take the fight
outta you
Don't believe the headlines, check it for yourself sometimes, don't let them take the fight
outta you
The lies you live become you, the love you lose it numbs you, don't let them take the fight
outta you
They say that you've arrived but that's just a high-class bribe, don't let them take the fight
outta you
There's always someone younger, someone with more hunger, don't let them take the fight outta
They'll say you're the one and only
Then straight up leave you lonely, don't let them take the fight outta you
Like a transplant-patient waiting for a donor, don't let them take the fight outta you
