The Independent Film Channel (IFC) is an American cable TV network that airs independent film and related programming. IFC programming includes commercially interrupted full feature-length films, original documentaries, shorts, animated series, original series, acquired series, and content exclusively for the web.

The channel, which is owned by AMC Networks (a former subsidiary of Cablevision), debuted on September 1, 1994, as a spin-off from then-sibling channel Bravo. Films were originally shown without commercial interruption.

In March 2010, IFC unveiled a newly redesigned logo and a new slogan - Always On. Slightly Off; said slogan reflects IFC's shift from merely airing independent films to airing independent films, cult television series, and specials with an indie flavor and sensibility. This logo change also marked the year IFC began interrupting programs with commercial breaks, which has sparked controversy among its viewers. Despite airing advertisements during their programming, IFC still airs movies and TV-MA rated series uncensored; episodes of some programs rated TV-14, however are censored.

An Independent film is a professional film production resulting in a feature film that is produced mostly or completely outside of the major film studio system. In addition to being produced and distributed by independent entertainment companies, independent films are also produced and/or distributed by subsidiaries of major film studios. Independent films are sometimes distinguishable by their content and style and the way in which the filmmakers' personal artistic vision is realized. Usually, but not always, independent films are made with considerably lower film budgets than major studio films. Generally, the marketing of independent films is characterized by limited release, but can also have major marketing campaigns and a wide release. Independent films are often screened at local, national, or international film festivals before distribution (theatrical and/or retail release). An independent film production can rival a mainstream film production if it has the necessary funding and distribution.

Matthew Paige "Matt" Damon (born October 8, 1970) is an American actor, screenwriter, and philanthropist whose career was launched following the success of the film Good Will Hunting (1997) from a screenplay he co-wrote with friend Ben Affleck. The pair won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and a Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay for their work. Damon alone received multiple Best Actor nominations, including an Academy Award for his lead performance in the film.

Damon has since starred in commercially successful films such as Saving Private Ryan (1998), the Ocean's trilogy, and the Bourne series, while also gaining critical acclaim for his performances in dramas such as Syriana (2005), The Good Shepherd (2006), and The Departed (2006). He garnered a Golden Globe nomination for portraying the title character in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Invictus (2009). He is one of the top 40 highest grossing actors of all time. In 2007, Damon received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was named Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine. Damon has been actively involved in charitable work, including the ONE Campaign, H2O Africa Foundation, and Water.org.

Edward Harrison Norton (born August 18, 1969) is an American actor, screenwriter, film director and producer. In 1996, his supporting role in the courtroom drama Primal Fear garnered him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Two years later, his lead role as a reformed white power skinhead in American History X earned a nomination for Academy Award for Best Actor. His other films include period dramas such as Kingdom of Heaven (2005), in which he played King Baldwin, The Illusionist (2006), and The Painted Veil (2006); and other notable films such as Rounders (1998), Fight Club (1999), 25th Hour (2002), Red Dragon (2002), and The Incredible Hulk (2008).

In addition to acting, Norton is also a writer and director. He made his directorial debut with the film Keeping the Faith (2000) and is slated to direct the film adaptation of the novel Motherless Brooklyn. Norton did uncredited work on the scripts for The Score, Frida, and The Incredible Hulk.

In his private life, Norton is an environmental and social activist. He is a member of the board of trustees of Enterprise Community Partners, a non-profit organization for developing affordable housing, founded by his grandfather, James Rouse. Norton is president of the American branch of the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. He ran in the 2009 New York City Marathon to raise money for the Trust. He also raises money for charity through Crowdrise, a social networking community for volunteers and a micro-donations fundraising platform. In July 2010, Norton was designated as the United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for Biodiversity by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Julie Davis (born 1969) is an American film director, writer and actress. Davis is best known her directing, writing and acting in Amy's Orgasm and the 2009 romantic comedy film Finding Bliss.

Davis grew up in Miami, Florida, where she graduated from Miami Palmetto High School in 1986. She went on to attend Dartmouth College, graduating in 1990. She attended the AFI Conservatory's editing program in 1991.

Davis got her start in the film business by editing and directing ultra low budget films. While editing promos for the Playboy Channel, she raised $60,000 to make her first feature I Love You, Don't Touch Me! which premiered at the Sundance Film festival in 1997 and was sold to the Samuel Goldwyn Company.
