Jamgön Kongtrül, also Jamgoin Gongzhü in official transcription, is a name of a prominent line of Tibetan Buddhist teachers (lama), primarily identified with the first Jamgon Kongtrul, but also the name shared by members of a lineage held by tradition to be his subsequent reincarnations (tulku), to date.

The first Jamgon Kongtrul, Jamgön Kongtrül Lodrö Thayé, was one of the preeminent scholars in 19th century Tibet. Tibetan Buddhists believe that he had multiple simultaneous emanations; only one of these, Khyentse Özer, was called the second Jamgon Kongtrul. The recognition of the fourth Jamgon Kongtrul is presently in dispute, complicated by the ongoing controversy regarding the recognition of the genuine reincarnation of the 17th Karmapa.

The Jamgon Kongtruls are honored as lineage-holders of all the lineages of Tibetan Buddhism, although they are primarily identified with the Karma Kagyu lineage. The Jamgon Kongtruls have had a profound influence on many teachers and masters of the different schools.

His Eminence 2nd Beru Khyentse Rinpoche (1947, Tibet) is an important lineage holder of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. Rinpoche is a very prominent contemporary Kalachakra Tantra master. He is also a father of the 4th Jamgon Kongtrul Yangsi.

The 1st Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo (1820–1892) was one of the most important illuminators of Buddhism in Tibet. With his unsurpassable learning and realisation gained through study, practice and visions Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo was not confined to sect or school and propagated the Dharma impartially to all.

Several reincarnations or emanations of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, including those of body, speech, mind, qualities and activity, were recognized in Tibet. Thus the speech emanation became the 1st Beru Khyentse (1896–1945) Karma Jamyang Khyentse Özer, son of the King of Beru Gönpo Düdul in Kham (eastern Tibet). He was later enthroned at Palpung Monastery, which would become the seat for all his activities. 1st Beru Khyentse had many non-sectarian disciples from Sakya, Gelug, Kagyu and Nyingma traditions. Just to name a few eminent ones from the Kagyu school were the 15th Karmapa (he was both his Guru as well as his disciple), 16th Karmapa, Nenang Pawo Rinpoche, Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche, Khandro Orgyen Tsomo (consort of the 15th Karmapa).
