The world's strongest typhoon this year has killed at least 25 people in southern China and paralysed Hong Kong's airport, leaving hundreds of travellers stranded.
Typhoon Usagi - which means "rabbit" in Japanese - swept through Guangdong province, bringing heavy rain and winds of more than 180 kilometres an hour.
Trees were toppled and cars blown off roads.
In Hong Kong some ventured outdoors despite official government advice to stay at home and take precautions.
In Fujian province more than 80,000 people were reportedly moved to safety with authorities deploying at least 50,000 emergency workers.
Usagi first hit Taiwan and the Philippines on Saturday, causing two deaths and depriving tens of thousands of power.
The typhoon struck the Chinese coast on Sunday night, battering the city of Shanwei.
For some in Hong Kong, which was spared the worst effects of the typhoon, the experience was more like a theme park as they gathered by the pier to be drenched by spray from enormous waves crashing against the wall.

Typhoon Usagi Hits Southern China, Sweeping Past Hong Kong
Typhoon Usagi, the strongest storm to hit the Western Pacific this year, kills at least 25 people in southern China, causing flooding and gale force winds, state media reports.
Full Story:
At least 25 people were killed after Typhoon Usagi made landfall in southern China's Guangdong Province.
The victims included people hit by debris and others who drowned.
One man was killed by a falling window pane.
About 226-thousand people were relocated and over 3.5-million affected, after Usagi struck the province on Sunday.
Usagi, the strongest storm to hit the Western Pacific this year, uprooted trees and caused flooding and gale force winds.
Air and ground transport was halted, and local governments ordered schools in 14 cities to close.
The typhoon caused over seven-thousand houses to collapse and crippled power supplies for hundreds-of-thousands of homes, causing economic losses worth 530-million dollars in Guangdong Province.
Rains and strong winds brought by Usagi also began pounding Hong Kong late on Sunday.
The storm warning remained in force early on Monday, with financial markets closed for at least part of the morning.
Despite earlier warnings the typhoon could pose a severe risk to the Asian financial centre, Hong Kong suffered only minimal damage.
Chinese meteorological authorities say Usagi, which weakened to a tropical storm, is expected to hit neighbouring Guangxi Province by noon on Monday.
Usagi lashed the south and east coasts of Taiwan on Saturday after slamming into the Philippines' northernmost islands, where it cut communication and power lines and triggered landslides.

Super Typhoon Usagi / Odette Video Forecast
Typhoon Usagi has rapidly intensified today to become a monster of a storm with winds gusting up to 170kts or 314kph. Usagi is expected to intensify slightly more through Friday before starting to interact with the Taiwan Coastline and Northern Luzon. The friction from both of these landmasses will weaken Usagi slightly but the center of circulation at this time is expected to remain over open water. That will allow the Storm to maintain its strong Typhoon intensity as it passes through the Luzon strait and in to the South China Sea.

Typhoon Usagi: Devastating storm hits Taiwan and China
One of the strongest typhoons to hit the Western Pacific this year, Typhoon Usagi, has struck Taiwan and South East China. Typhoon Usagi created giant waves reaching eight meters tall forcing some coastal villages to be evacuated and the Taiwan Agricultural Department has issued more than 300 slide warnings. Winds of up to 127 mph are set to move further across China towards Hong Kong. Report by Sarah Kerr.

Super typhoon Usagi may strike Hong Kong.
The strongest storm of the year thus far is headed toward Taiwan and eventually Hong Kong.Hong Kong was on Friday preparing to be battered by Super Typhoon Usagi at the weekend as the city's Observatory predicted an almost direct hit.
A warning issued late on Thursday stated the storm, which last night intensified to a super typhoon as it crossed the South China Sea, will on Sunday "pose a threat to Hong Kong".
"By that time the weather will deteriorate significantly, with high winds and rough seas," the Observatory said.
"If you are planning to travel out of Hong Kong or having other activities, please be reminded that changes in the weather may affect your plans."
The storm was centred about 730 kilometres northeast of Manila at 5am today, and was forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at around kilometres per hour in the general direction of the Luzon Strait.
An Observatory spokesman said: "By and large typhoons that pass the Luzon Strait have relatively big impact on Guangdong coastal areas.
It was now hard to estimate whether Usagi would hit Hong Kong head-on, he said, because the typhoon remains distant from the city.
"A slight change of its direction can have a considerable difference in terms of its impact on Hong Kong," the spokesman explained.
Taiwanese authorities urged residents on southern parts of the island to carry out precautionary measures as Usagi approaches.
China's state news agency Xinhua reported a "yellow alert" had been issued as the storm approaches the country.
The Beijing National Metoerological Center issued a yellow alert - the third highest of China's four-tier warning system.
