Bartholomew “Bertie” or “Bart” McGhee (April 30, 1899 in Edinburgh, Scotland – January 26, 1979 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was an American soccer forward who typically played left wing forward. He played for the United States men's national soccer team at the 1930 FIFA World Cup, and scored the second goal in World Cup history against Belgium. He was inducted into the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1986.
McGhee was the son of former Hibernian player and Heart of Midlothian manager James McGhee, and the brother of Philadelphia Field Club forward Jimmy McGhee. McGhee’s father was a renowned Scottish player who appeared with Scotland in an 1886 game with Wales. McGhee’s father had a controversial term as the manager of Hearts. When he finally resigned on December 6, 1909, he began assessing his options. In September 1910 he decided to leave Scotland and emigrate to the United States. It took Jimmy McGhee two years to get settled and it was not until 1912 that McGhee, his mother and younger brother Jimmy joined his father in the U.S. When they arrived in the U.S., the family settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
McGhee Tyson Airport (IATA: TYS, ICAO: KTYS, FAA LID: TYS) is a joint civil-military public airport serving the Knoxville metropolitan area and located approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of the central business district of Knoxville, in Alcoa, Blount County, Tennessee, United States. It is owned by the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority. Commercial service is provided by several major airlines and connection carriers.
The airport is named for United States Navy pilot Charles McGhee Tyson, lost on patrol in World War I.
The airport also serves as the home of McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, an air base for the 134th Air Refueling Wing (134 ARW) of the Tennessee Air National Guard.
In 1927 McGhee Tyson airport was opened in honor of Charles McGhee Tyson. Originally the airport was on a 60 acre stretch of land in West Knoxville. In 1935 the city purchased 351 acres of land in Blount County for development of the current airport. The land was being purchased for the development of a facility that would be used for air carrier traffic. The airport has constantly making improvements to it since the first terminal was built. In 1941 the city constructed a new air traffic control tower on the airport. Two years later the airport continued the development of with two 5,000-foot (1,500 m) runways.
Garfield "Gary" Portz, known by his ringname Scott McGhee, is a retired American professional wrestler and the son of Geoff Portz (and a former brother-in-law of Ric Flair) who competed in North American regional promotions during the 1980s and was a longtime mainstay of Florida Championship Wrestling.
Originally working as a referee for Jim Crockett in the Carolinas during the late 1970s, he began training with Ric Flair, Rick Steamboat and Buddy Rogers and substituted for wrestlers as several events. Staying in the Carolinas for two years, he followed his father Geoff Portz to Florida Championship Wrestling then under promoter Eddie Graham.
In October 1980, shortly after his debut, he and Barry Windham defeated The Assassins in a tournament final for the then vacant tag team titles in St. Petersburg, Florida and competed in several high profile matches against Hiro Matsuda and Les Thornton.
Returning to the Carolinas the following year, he later joined George Scott's Oklahoma territory defeated Tony Charles for the NWA United States Junior Heavyweight Championship and faced veterans such as Johnny Rich and Brad Armstrong.
Les Thornton (born April 9, 1934) is a retired British professional wrestler who competed in European and North American regional promotions throughout the 1970s and 1980s including Stampede Wrestling, the World Wrestling Federation and the National Wrestling Alliance. During his career, he was considered one of the best junior heavyweights in the world at one time simultaneously holding both the WWF and NWA World Junior Heavyweight titles, and would later hold NWA title five times. In the "Hogan Era" of the WWF, Thornton was used as a jobber.
Thornton is slated to appear in a documentary about the life of fellow Briton Chris Adams in The Gentleman's Choice, where he is famous for mentioning that some of his friends who left England to compete in the United States came home in a box (Adams and Davey Boy Smith), in a wheelchair (Tom Billington, aka The Dynamite Kid) or as drug addicts (all three aforementioned wrestlers).
1Records are unclear as to where Thorton was when he received the title for the first time nor is it known as to which NWA affiliated promotion he was wrestling for at the time.
Jessie Barr (born 24 July 1989 in Waterford, Republic of Ireland) is an Irish athlete who will compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's 4 × 400 metres relay.
