Isuzu Motors Ltd. (ã?„ã?™ã‚žè‡ªå‹•è»Šæ ªå¼?会社, Isuzu JidÅ?sha Kabushiki-Kaisha) (TYO: 7202), trading as Isuzu (Japanese pronunciation: [isuzu], /iˈsuË?zuË?/), is a Japanese commercial vehicles and diesel engine manufacturing company headquartered in Tokyo. Its principal activity is the production, marketing and sale of Isuzu commercial vehicles and diesel engines. It also has a number of subsidiaries, included Anadolu Isuzu (a Turkish joint venture with Anadolu Group), Sollers-Isuzu (a Russian joint venture with Sollers JSC), SML Isuzu (formerly Swaraj Mazda), Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia, Isuzu Malaysia (Isuzu HICOM), Isuzu UK, Isuzu South Africa, Isuzu Philippines, Taiwan Isuzu Motors, Isuzu Vietnam and Isuzu Motors India. The company was founded in 1916 by the Japanese oil and gasoline manufacturer Tokyo Gas Company, which in 1934 fused with the carmaker and was renamed Isuzu, after the Isuzu River.
Isuzu has assembly and manufacturing plants in Fujisawa, as well as in the Tochigi and HokkaidÅ? prefectures. Isuzu-branded vehicles are sold in most commercial markets worldwide. Isuzu's primary market focus is on commercial diesel-powered truck, buses and construction, while their Japanese competitor Yanmar focuses on commercial-level powerplants and generators.
Anadolu Isuzu (officially Anadolu Isuzu Automotive Industry & Trading A.Åž.) is an automobile manufacturing company headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey and a joint venture between Anadolu Group from Turkey, and Isuzu Motors and Itochu Co. from Japan. Its main fields of operation are the production and marketing of light duty trucks and midibuses. Since the establishment of the company in 1984, more than 80,000 commercial vehicles have been produced in accordance with the Isuzu Motors license agreement. Anadolu Isuzu is the first Turco-Japanese joint venture in the automotive sector.
The experience and know-how of Anadolu Isuzu dates back to the Çelik Montaj, which was established in 1965 to build pick-ups and motorcycles. The company continued to produce Skoda pickups until the end of 1986. In 1984 the company started to produce Isuzu vehicles in Istanbul Kartal Plants.
In 1999 Anadolu Isuzu has moved to the new Gebze Şekerpınar facilities, in the Çayırova district of Kocaeli Province. The new facilities were established over a land of 230.000 m2 where the company employs nearly 750 people. The facilities include two separate plants for truck and bus manufacturing. The midibus manufacturing plant alone covers an area of 21.750 m2 and has a production capacity of 4000 midibuses per year.
