A burrow is a hole or tunnel dug into the ground by an animal to create a space suitable for habitation, temporary refuge, or as a byproduct of locomotion. Burrows provide a form of shelter against predation and exposure to the elements, so the burrowing way of life is quite popular among the animals. Burrows are also commonly preserved in the fossil record as a type of trace fossil.

Examples of burrowing animals include a number of mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and birds (including small dinosaurs), as well as numerous invertebrates including insects, spiders, sea urchins, crustaceans, clams and worms.

A wide variety of animals construct or use burrows in many different types of substrate. Mammals are perhaps most well known for burrowing, especially Insectivora like the voracious mole, and rodents like the prolific gopher and groundhog. The rabbit, a member of the family Lagomorpha, is a well-known burrower. There are estimations that a single groundhog burrow occupies a full cubic metre, displacing 320 kilograms of dirt. Even Carnivora like the meerkat, and marsupials, are burrowers. The largest burrowing animal is probably the polar bear when it makes its maternity den in snow or earth.

Andrew William Burrows (born 30 June 1979, Winchester, England) is a British musician. He was the drummer in the band Razorlight from 2004 to 2009, and has been guest drummer with We Are Scientists since 2009. He has also released music with I Am Arrows and with Tom Smith from Editors under the monkier "Smith & Burrows". More recently he has released music under his own name including the 2012 single "Keep On Moving On".

He joined the band in May 2004. He was discovered in open audition to replace the original drummer for the band, who left in early 2004. Since he joined Razorlight, the group have released three albums, Up All Night which reached #3 in the UK Albums Chart; Razorlight which debuted at #1 in the UK chart and Slipway Fires which debuted at #4. His first performance with Razorlight was at London's Bull and Gate on 25 May 2004.

Burrows has been a key figure in shaping Razorlight's sound and songs, having co written the hits "America"and "Before I Fall to Pieces", and more recently from the latest album Slipway Fires – "Hostage of Love", "Burbery Blue Eyes", "60 Thompson" and "Stinger" with Johnny Borrell.

Taj Burrow (born 2 June, 1978 in Yallingup, Western Australia) is an Australian professional surfer who is currently competing in this 14th year on the ASP World Tour.

Burrow was born in Busselton, Western Australia to American parents and began surfing at age 7. In 1998 he qualified for the ASP World Tour at 18 years old, becoming the youngest surfer to do so at the time. Burrow had, in fact, already earnt a place on the world tour a year earlier, but he turned it down stating that, as a 17-year-old, he was "too young to do the tour full-on". After his first year on tour in 1998, he claimed the ASP World Tour Rookie of the Year award after finishing 12th place on the rankings. One year later he finished runner-up on the 1999 World Tour season rankings.

In 2007, Burrow won the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach. He backed this up with a victory at the 2007 Billabong Pro in Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa where he claimed the title over the then 8-time world champion, Kelly Slater. This win helped to secure his 2nd place ranking on the ASP Men's Tour, his second runner-up season placing.

Julian Wilson a former pupil of Harrow School was the BBC's horse racing correspondent from 1966 until his retirement in 1997. He was succeeded by Clare Balding.

In his autobiography Some You Win, published in 1998, he revealed a rift with Peter O'Sullevan, his long time colleague at the BBC as well as saying that he had a strained relationship with Clare Balding.

Alexandre Michel Gérard Desplat (born 23 August 1961) is a French film composer. He has received four Academy Award nominations, five BAFTA nominations, five Golden Globe nominations, and two Grammy nominations. Desplat won his first Golden Globe for The Painted Veil in 2006, his first British Academy Film Award in 2011 and his first Grammy Award in 2012 for The King's Speech. Among various projects, Desplat has worked on a variety of Hollywood films including independent and commercial successes like The Queen, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, New Moon, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Part 2.

Desplat was born in Paris to a French father and a Greek mother who met at the University of California, Berkeley. After their marriage, they moved back to France, where Alexandre was born. Alexandre is the younger brother of Vic Desplat. At the age of five, he began playing piano. He also became proficient on trumpet and flute. He studied with Claude Ballif, Iannis Xenakis in France and Jack Hayes in the U.S. Desplat's musical interests were wide, and he was also influenced by South American and African artists and teachers, among whom were Carlinhos Brown and Ray Lema. Desplat swiftly became skilled, both as a performer and a composer.
