Aly Bain MBE (born 15 May 1946 in Lerwick, Shetland) is a Shetland fiddler who learned his instrument from the old-time master Tom Anderson. In 1967 he was a member of the Shetland-based band Gordon Hank and the Country Ramblers, with Gordon Smith, Ian Stewart and Jack Robertson. Bain is now considered one of the finest fiddlers in the Scottish tradition.
In the early days of his career he formed (briefly and unofficially) part of the band The Humblebums with two other ‘unknowns’ Gerry Rafferty and Billy Connolly and Tam Harvey. He became nationally prominent as a founding member of The Boys of the Lough, a Scots- Irish folk group, with whom he played for over 30 years. He received several honorary citizenships in the USA.
Simultaneously, Bain pursued a solo career in collaborative and television projects with Pelicula Films Director, Mike Alexander and Producer, Douglas Eadie, working on several international television series: 'The Down home Recordings', 'The Shetland Sessions', 'Aly Meets The Cajuns', and four series of the Transatlantic Sessions - in 2010 winning the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, "Good Tradition Award". Since the early eighties Bain has regularly collaborated and recorded with prominent musicians from across the globe, including: Jerry Douglas, Emmylou Harris, Mark O'Connor, Jay Ungar, Mary Black, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Dan Tyminski, Rosanne Cash, James Taylor, Eddi Reader, Paul Brady, Darrell Scott, Michael Doucet, Martha Wainwright, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, John Martyn, Danny Thompson, Iris DeMent, Karen Matheson, Donal Lunny, Joan Osborne, Allison Moorer, Bruce Molsky and Allan MacDonald, bringing traditional music to a constantly widening audience.

Nicola Benedetti (born 1 July 1987) is a Scottish violinist.
Benedetti was born in West Kilbride, North Ayrshire to an Italian father and a Scottish mother. She started to learn the violin at the age of four. By the age of nine, she had already passed the eight grades of musical examinations while attending the independent Wellington School, Ayr , and in September 1997 began to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School for young musicians under Lord Menuhin and Natasha Boyarskaya in rural Surrey, England.
At the end of her first year (1998), she played solo in the school's annual concert at Wigmore Hall, and performed in London and Paris as a soloist in Bach's Double Violin Concerto (together with Alina Ibragimova). She played in a memorial concert at Westminster Abbey celebrating the life and work of Yehudi Menuhin.
In 1999, Benedetti performed for the anniversary celebrations at Holyrood Palace with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland in the presence of HRH The Prince Edward.
In 2000, Benedetti performed with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Scottish Opera.

Russ Barenberg (born October 8, 1950) is a Grammy-nominated American bluegrass musician.
Barenberg began playing guitar at age 13, taking lessons from Alan Miller, whose brother John Miller Barenberg he would later play with. His style was heavily influenced by the flatpicking technique of Clarence White. He attended Cornell University and met Pete Wernick there in 1968. Together they joined to form Country Cooking, who released two albums of bluegrass before breaking up in 1975.
In 1975 Barenberg briefly began playing electric guitar with a jazz rock group, Carried Away. Late in 1975 he quit playing music, but returned in 1977, moving to New York City to play in the group Heartlands. This group also played backup on Barenberg's debut solo effort, Cowboy Calypso, in 1980. He then moved to Boston, teaching at the Music Emporium in Cambridge. Here he played in the groups Fiddle Fever and Laughing Hands.
In 1986 Barenberg moved to Nashville, where he has played often with Jerry Douglas and Maura O'Connell, and done much work as a session musician with Béla Fleck, Hazel Dickens, Mel Tillis, and Randy Travis, among others. He has released several instructional videos.

All reels have the same structure, consisting largely of quaver movement with an accent on the first and third beats of the bar. Reels usually have two parts (A and B); in most reels each part is repeated (AABB), but in others it is not (ABAB). Ale Möller Band with special guest Aly Bain performs The Flogging Reel at Celtic Connections 2006 in Glasgow, Scotland.
All reels have the same structure, consisting largely of quaver movement with an accent on the first and third beats of the bar. Reels usually have two parts (A and B); in most reels each part is repeated (AABB), but in others it is not (ABAB). Each part (A and B) typically has eight bars, which in turn are divisible into four-bar and two-bar phrases, as in a scheme of question-answer, where the first phrase is the "question" and the second is the "answer."
The Flogging Reel (often said to originally have been named The Flagon or the Flagon Reel until an unnamed masochist renamed it) is claimed to be of either Irish or Scottish origin. As these things go the arguments for one or the other can get heated at times. It seems clear however that migrant Irish workers carried their music to Scotland and also brought back a number of tunes of Scottish origin. The Donegal fiddlers may well have been the route by which Scottish tunes such as The Flogging Reel entered the Irish repertoire. These players prided themselves on their technical abilities, which included playing in higher positions (fairly uncommon among traditional Irish fiddlers), and sought out material which would demonstrate their skills.
And the Flogging Reel is undoubtedly an established vehicle for demonstrating great musical skill, something that Aly Bain has in abundance. On this occasion however he was somewhat outshined by double bass player Sebastien Dubé who, ignorant of what others perceive as limitations of his instrument, merrily bows along in an exhibition of excellence.

Reconozco mi ignorancia, conocía muy por encima su música y su historia, y todo lo que acontenció, fue para mi una maravillosa sorpresa.
Es de esas pocas veces en las que la sorpresa y la emoción, me superaron. La fuerza de esta música, su verdad, su alma, me desbordó.
Estaba rodando y a su vez pensaba:
- ¡madre mía que demonios es esto!, no dejaba de tener los pelos de punta.
Puedo decir que es una de las mejores músicas que he podido escuchar y de las que más han conseguido inundar mi corazón.
Después Phil y Aly, provocaron en mi una emoción similar en lo personal.
Despertaron en mi la total admiración.
Dos personas llanas, cercanas, humanas por encima de toda posición o jerarquía, personas que se colocan de tú a tú contigo, y que te hacen recordar que el ser humano, siempre puede ser maravilloso.
Fue apasionante conocerlos, compartir un rato con ellos y entrevistarlos para este trabajo.
Me contaron cosas interesantísimas y creo que por todo ello este es un buen trabajo. Porque recaba parte de su verdad, de su sentir y de su realidad. De la realidad musical de esta maravillosa música tradicional que es el folk, de la que son padres y precursores.
En definitiva un placer para los sentidos, que espero revivir pronto.

One more night, I went to Clamores , to make a documentary story about the figure of these two great musicians.
I admit my ignorance , knew well above its music and its history , and all that befell , was for me a wonderful surprise .
Is one of those few times when the surprise and excitement , I overcame . The strength of this music, his truth, his soul overflowed me .
I was rolling and in turn thought :
-Oh my god what the hell is this! , Not without the creeps .
I can say that is one of the best music that I have heard and most have managed to flood my heart.
After Phil and Aly , led a similar emotion in me personally.
Awoke in my full admiration.
Two people flat , nearby human above any position or hierarchy , people standing face to face with you, and remind you that human beings can always be wonderful.
It was exciting to know them, spend some time with them and interview them for this work.
They told me interesting things and I think that all this is a good job . Collects Because of its truth, its feel and its reality . From the reality of this wonderful musical folk music is folk , which are parents and precursors.
Definitely a treat for the senses , revive hopefully soon.
