With 1.7 million inhabitants, Budapest represents the biggest city in Hungary and is the capital of the country. Since 1873 the former separated cities Buda and Pest are concluded to one big city, Budapest. The city is known for its well preserved architecture, mostly representing the Baroque period. The film presents impressions from Sights mostly located on the Buda site. The castle district including the Sikló, a funicular or inclined plane, cannot be overseen and was worth being visited. Also the Fisherman's Bastion, build between 1895 and 1902, represents a main attraction of Budapest. A significant building in the same area is the Matthias Church, which was built in the second part of the 14th century, but needed an extensive restoration in the late 19th century. Part of Budapest is also the best known Danube island, the Maraget's island, which can be visited over the so called Margaret's bridge. Margareta of Hungary (1242-1270) was a daughter of the Hungarian King Béla IV. She grew up from an age of 4 years old in a Dominican monastery located on this island. She lived in an even wanted poverty and abstinence and died at the age of 28 years. The island and the corresponding bridge are named after her.
