MANUEL MORA MORALES: THE CANARY ISLANDERS IN LOUISIANA. LOUISIANA, SAINT BERNARD. NEW ORLEANS
SEAMOS AMIGOS EN FACEBOOK, HAZ CLIK: es-es.facebook.com "Canarians of the Mississippi: The Canary Islanders In Louisiana" is the lastest work by Manuel Mora Morales, for his unfinished series "La Ruta del Gofio: History of the Canarian Immigration." The documentary was filmed around the marshes of the Mississippi river in Louisiana, USA in 2005 and 2006. It tells the story of the Canarian Islanders who immigrated to Louisiana in the 18th century in order to establish colonies and to defend Spanish territories from the British and French forces in the area. "Canarians of the Mississippi" is produced by Amazonas Films and is being released in Spanish and English versions. To this day there are descendants of the first Canarian immigrants, known as "islenos," that continue speaking the Castilian language with the same accent as their ancestors. During the last 200 years the islanders have been subject to perhaps the most unusual story of the Canarian Migration; while it is full of unusual tales and events the story of the islanders is the least known inside and outside the archipelago. Mention could be made of their important contributions to the American War of Independence, the islander battalions under General Lee and their presence in the American congress, as well as other numerous political figures whom have influenced politics in the United States government. Many traditions and folklore in the islander community that exist today came from the Canary Islands over two ...

Spain - Canary Islands - Lanzarote - People
The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago. The archipelago consists of seven major islands, one minor island, and several small islets. They are of volcanic origin and can be found in the North Atlantic Ocean. These islands are located just off the coast of the north-western portion of the African continent/mainland, nearest the political divide of Morocco and Western Sahara. They form the autonomous community of the Canary Islands. The Canary Islands were formed by the Canary hotspot. The status of capital city is shared by the two cities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Canary Effect
The grim legacy of America's treatment of its native peoples is explored in detail in this documentary. Filmmakers Robin Davey and Yellow Thunder Woman take the perspective that if one is to define "genocide" as the a deliberate effort by a government to exterminate a people, then the United States is clearly guilty of the crime given their actions against America's indigenous population over the past 300 years. Davey and Thunder Woman back up their argument with footage detailing the economic marginalization of American Indians, the consistent violation of legal agreements reached with native tribes, the mismanagement and consistent neglect of Indian reservations, the brutalization of Native Americans as they were segregated onto flinty soil and forced to live under substandard conditions, and the refusal of the mass media to report stories of suicide and Columbine-style school shootings among reservation youth. The Canary Effect was screened in competition at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival.

The Amazighs of Canary Islands -The Guanches-
The Amazighs of Canary Islands -The Guanches- sea people of Atlantic ocean also of occidental North Africa (the Maurizia ,Mauretania Tangitana of Tamazgha) www.luventicus.org www.yabiladi.com www.canariasbioregion.org Guanches (also: Guanchis or Guanchetos), now extinct as an AMAZIGH people were the first known inhabitants of the Canary Islands, having migrated to the archipelago sometime between 20.000 BC to 9000 BC . Their culture as such has since disappeared, although traces of it can still be found, an example being the "whistle" Silbo language of La Gomera Island. The language of EL Guanches is Taguanciet semilar to Tassoussit and Tachelhit of Moroccans in Atlas Mountains ,Taguanciet another Atlantic Amazigh language Genetic evidence shows that northern African peoples (most likely descendants of the Amazighs of Aterians/ Iberu-Maurisians types ) made a significant contribution to the aboriginal population of the Canaries following desertification of the Sahara at some point before 10.000BC. Linguistic evidence suggests ties between Guanche language and the Berber languages of northern Africa, particularly when comparing number systems. Research into the genetics of the Guanche population have led to the conclusion that they share an ancestry with Berber peoples The islands were visited by a number of peoples within recorded history. The Numidians, and Carthaginians knew of the islands and made frequent visits,[including expeditions dispatched from Mogador by Juba ...

Las Palmas De Gran Canaria - A Heaven In The Ocean -
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria commonly known as Las Palmas is the political capital, jointly with Santa Cruz, the most populous city in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands and the ninth largest city in Spain, with a population of 383308 in 2010. Nearly half (45.9%) of the people of the island and 18.35% of all inhabitants of the Canary Islands live in this city. It is also the fifth most populous urban area in Spain with a population of around 700000[1] and (depending on sources) ninth or tenth most populous metropolitan area in Spain with a population of 625892,[2] 640000[3] or 741826.[4] Las Palmas is the largest city of the European Union outside Europe. It is located in the northeast part of the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, about 150 kilometers (~93 miles) off the northwestern coast of Africa[5] within the Atlantic Ocean. Las Palmas enjoy a subtropical climate, with mild to warm temperatures throughout the year. According to a study carried out by Thomas Whitmore, director of research on climatology at Syracuse University in the United States, Las Palmas enjoys "the best climate in the world".[6] It was founded as city in 1478, considered the de facto only capital of the Canary Islands until the seventeenth century.[7] Today, the city is capital of Canary Islands with Santa Cruz and home to the Canarian Ministry of Presidency (shared in a 4-year term with Santa Cruz de Tenerife), one half of the ministries and boards of the Canarian Government, (the other ...

Fires out of control on the Canary Islands
More than 4700 people have been evacuated from their homes on Spain's Canary Islands because of out of control forest fires due to a heat wave and strong winds. The worst hit-areas are Tenerife, and la Gomera both massively popular tourist destinations that hundreds of thousands British people visit every year. The fires have so far destroyed 200 hectares of land in Tenerife, and cut road links and power lines on the island. La Gomera has lost 470 hectares of land and, a world famous nature reserve of 'incalculable ecological value' The people seen here were part of a massive evacuation plan from the islands. Medical staff and ambulances were in attendance to deal with injuries etc. Everyone was quiet and subdued as they disembarked. No doubt pleased that their ordeal was over. Apart from the Canary Islands the northern province of Galicia, has also been affected by fires in the past few days. This follows the fires in Valencia, just last month, when thousands of people were evacuated, and tragically, the death of four French people, in the border area between Catalonia and France. This latest fire will no doubt hit the struggling economy hard. As the tourism sector has been a major engine of growth for the Spanish economy. I am Ann Salter thanks for watching.
