  Eburones
  The Eburones (Greek: , Strabo), were a Belgic people of Germanic or Celtic descent who lived in the upper north of Gaul in ancient times. They lived largely between the Rhine and the Maas, east of the Menapii. This area later became part of the province Germania Inferior. Julius Caesar says that the Condrusi, Eburones, Caeraesi, and Paemani were called by the one name of Germani (B. G. ii. 4). When the Tencteri and Usipetes, who were Germanic tribes, crossed the Rhine from Germania (55 BCE), they first fell on the Menapii, and then advanced into the territories of the Eburones and Condrusi, who were in some kind of political dependence on the Treviri. (B. G. iv. 6.). The Eburones were evidently wiped out by Caesar's forces during the Gallic Wars.

  Nervii
  The Nervii were one of the most powerful Belgic tribes; living in the northeastern hinterlands of Gaul, they were known to trek long distances to engage in various wars and functions. During the 1st century BC Roman military campaign to cross the Sambre river, Caesar's native scouts from among the Remi stated that the Nervii were the most distant of the Belgae. The Romanized Greek Strabo wrote that the Nervii were of Germanic origin. Tacitus, in his book Germania, says that in his time the Nervii believed that their Germanic ancestry distinguished them from the weaknesses of the Gauls.Based on a few literary sources, few of which were first-hand accounts, nineteenth-century ethnographers and their intellectual heirs have attempted ethnographic mapping of the region now covered by northernmost France and Belgium. The scant late La Tène material culture of the region does not throw light on linguistic affiliations, but metalwork from Bavay, the chief town of the Nervii, in the immediately following Roman period, in examples where it is not imported or directly Roman in inspiration, is Gaulish.

  Obelix
  Obelix (Fr. Obélix) is a fictional character from the French comic book series Asterix. He works as a menhir sculptor and deliveryman, and is Asterix' best friend. Obelix is noted for his fatness, the menhirs he carries around on his back and his superhuman strength. He is the only Gaul in Asterix' village who is always strong since he fell into the cauldron with magic potion when he was a baby. Because of Obelix' already enormous strength he is not allowed to drink the magic potion ever again, a ban he regards as being tremendously unfair. Other characteristics are his simplemindedness, his love and care for his dog Dogmatix, his anger when someone refers to him as being "fat", his enthusiasm for hunting and eating wild boars and beating up Romans. His catchphrase is: "These Romans are crazy!", although he considers many other nationalities to be just as strange.
