Star Magic

ABS-CBN Center for Communication Arts Inc. (traded as Star Magic and formerly known as ABS-CBN Talent Center) is the training and management subsidiary of ABS-CBN Corporation. It was designed to assist young talent in the Philippines. Star Magic talents undergo training in acting, personality development and physical enhancement before being cast in the television shows of ABS-CBN and the films of Star Cinema, as well as other film projects in the Philippines, commercial projects and corporate events.

History

In April 1992, Freddie Garcia, then ABS-CBN executive vice president and general manager, and Johnny Manahan, then program director, formed the idea of creating a stable of new stars exclusively for the network. This gave birth to Talent Center. In its early years, the Talent Center's project was Ang TV.

The show auditioned several thousand people and accepted a few dozen into the program. The Talent Center continued its search through the launching vehicle Star Circle in 1995.

Star Circle Quest

Star Circle Quest (SCQ) is a reality-based talent competition which premiered on March 1, 2004 locally on ABS-CBN and internationally through The Filipino Channel. it features at least 10 contestants called "questors" will have to undergo talent training, physical enhancement and different challenges to test their talent skills. The remaining questor after weekly eliminations will be declared as the Grand Questor. He or she takes home a cash prize and an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN Talent Center (now Star Magic).

The song used in the competition was sung by Star in a Million finalists Sheryn Regis and Marinel Santos.

Overview

In 1993, Mr. Johnny Manahan and Freddie M. Garcia formed ABS-CBN Talent Center, now known as Star Magic to hone individuals as exclusive talents of the network. Manahan then introduced Star Circle, an untelevised talent search which aims to look for fresh faces to be the next idol. 12 years later, after having 12 batches and more than 120 members, Star Circle was brought to Philippine TV as a reality talent search. Auditions for the first season were held between October 2003 and January 2004. Before the said competition was aired, ABS-CBN aired the celebration of Star Circle as well as the launch of Star Circle Quest on February 27, 2004, presenting the Top 200 kid & teen aspirants who passed the screenings. The show premiered on March 21, 2004 on primetime.

Circle

A circle is a simple shape in Euclidean geometry. It is the set of all points in a plane that are at a given distance from a given point, the centre; equivalently it is the curve traced out by a point that moves so that its distance from a given point is constant. The distance between any of the points and the centre is called the radius.

A circle is a simple closed curve which divides the plane into two regions: an interior and an exterior. In everyday use, the term "circle" may be used interchangeably to refer to either the boundary of the figure, or to the whole figure including its interior; in strict technical usage, the circle is only the boundary and the whole figure is called a disk.

A circle may also be defined as a special ellipse in which the two foci are coincident and the eccentricity is 0, or the two-dimensional shape enclosing the most area per unit perimeter squared, using calculus of variations.

Terminology

Star

A star is a luminous sphere of plasma held together by its own gravity. The nearest star to Earth is the Sun. Other stars are visible to the naked eye from Earth during the night, appearing as a multitude of fixed luminous points in the sky due to their immense distance from Earth. Historically, the most prominent stars were grouped into constellations and asterisms, and the brightest stars gained proper names. Extensive catalogues of stars have been assembled by astronomers, which provide standardized star designations.

For at least a portion of its life, a star shines due to thermonuclear fusion of hydrogen into helium in its core, releasing energy that traverses the star's interior and then radiates into outer space. Once the hydrogen in the core of a star is nearly exhausted, almost all naturally occurring elements heavier than helium are created by stellar nucleosynthesis during the star's lifetime and, for some stars, by supernova nucleosynthesis when it explodes. Near the end of its life, a star can also contain degenerate matter. Astronomers can determine the mass, age, metallicity (chemical composition), and many other properties of a star by observing its motion through space, luminosity, and spectrum respectively. The total mass of a star is the principal determinant of its evolution and eventual fate. Other characteristics of a star, including diameter and temperature, change over its life, while the star's environment affects its rotation and movement. A plot of the temperature of many stars against their luminosities, known as a Hertzsprung–Russell diagram (H–R diagram), allows the age and evolutionary state of a star to be determined.

Sandara Park

Sandara "Dara" Park (born November 12, 1984), is a South Korean singer, dancer, actress, model, and host. Born in Busan, South Korea, she later moved to the Philippines at the age of 10 where she rose to fame on ABS-CBN's talent search Star Circle Quest. While there, she released a string of movies such as the 3 part film Bcuz of U (2004), Can This Be Love (2005) and D' Lucky Ones. The release of the self-titled extended play (EP) Sandara, which contained the hit-single 'In Or Out' describing her struggles and uncertainties while participating in the show, cemented her place as a star in 2004. The following EP's, Walang Sabit and Ang Ganda Ko, were as equally successful.

After the completion of her activities, she returned to her birth home in 2007 and signed with South Korean entertainment company, YG Entertainment with the initial intention of continuing her career as an actress. Instead, she became a member of the South Korean girl group 2NE1 and debuted as the 'soft vocal' and visual of the quartet. The group is estimated to have sold more than 65 million digital singles worldwide and are the best-selling digital girl-group in South Korea. They are the only group to have won all Grand Prizes at the MAMA Awards and are tied with EXO for having the second most Daesang's at the said award show. In 2009, she released her first digital single "Kiss" in South Korea and it was included as the 9th track in 2NE1's first studio album To Anyone in 2010.
