Is Illinois more than corn, cornhole and Cubs and Cardinals fans? If you've ever been in Illinois you likely only went to one of the largest cities in the U.S; Chicago. If for whatever reason you found yourself further South you'd probably just get lost in a bunch of cornfields until you turned around and went back to Chicago.
Ah, Illinois. What a beautiful state. Home to Abraham Lincoln (our finest president), the state can really be divided up into four parts. You’ve got 'snobby' Chicago metro area, a small area that can be defined as Chicago suburbs, a section of Illinois that might as well be Wisconsin, and the rest of the state. The rest of Illinois is very large, and very much looks the same.
Now, since Chicago has a large part of the state’s population (17 percent to be exact), we'll be starting there. Don't worry though, we'll be covering all the action that takes place in the rest of Illinois, too. Try not to fall asleep when we get to that part.
Let's be real, Chicago is by far the most common reason for going to Illinois, bringing in 58 million visitors in 2018. A new record! With that many people coming and going, you'll have a hard time finding any parking, as most Chicagoans will tell you. Especially when it snows.
The heart of Chicago, The Loop, is synonymous with the downtown area of Chicago. Here you'll find everything from concerts and festivals to famous art pieces like Cloud Gate, which everyone just lovingly calls 'The Bean'
You'll find most of the safest spots in Chicago from the Loop and up north.
Next we have the Near North Side, probably the best place to live in the city. (If you can afford it) It's located just North of the beautiful Chicago River, the only river in the world that flows backwards.
Here, people are wealthy, and quite frankly, could be considered yuppies.
This is home to Chicago’s famous Magnificent Mile and The Original Gino’s East of Chicago. The best pizza in Chicago, depending on who you ask.
Of course Chicago is known for it's awesome food. Whether it's the no ketchup ever Chicago style hotdogs or the famous dish dish pizzas that commonly have wait times of over an hour, you'll find it in here.
Outside of Chicago you have the Chicago suburbs. This is where the wealthy, rich, smart, snobby people live. Places like Buffalo Grove, Naperville and Clarendon Hills always rank in terms of the best places to live in the entire country. The Chicago suburbs have much more greenways, parks and lots of places to swim and fish. There’s a good sense of community here.
People from Chicago can come across as snobby, possibly just because they love their city so much. But people from the rest of Illinois can't seem to agree with them on anything. This includes everything from politics and ideals to fashion and pizza toppings.
What about the weather? Well, it’s a gray, cold sort of place for most of the year. Winters in Illinois seem to start in October, and you can still expect a freak snowstorm in May. You basically get two good months a year - June and October. That’s really it. Summer is measured when the local ice cream shop opens up.
But all that miserable winter weather doesn’t stop mushroom season from happening every Spring. If you’ve never hunted for morel mushrooms, it’s actually pretty fun. Illinois folks NEVER tell others about their secret mushroom hunting spots.

Move to these places and you're gonna regret it big time!
If you haven’t heard the news, Illinois is kind of a sinking ship. A lot of people are leaving this state. In fact, more people left Illinois than any other state in the last decade. Last year alone, 51,029 people left the land of Lincoln, meaning .4% of folks skipped town. Many moved to nearby Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri and even into the southern states.
Every ten minutes someone leaves this state for good. By the end of this video, we’ll see another Illinois goodbye.
Why? For many reasons I’ll talk about, but generally, people are tired of the taxes and the government mismanagement. But it’s also the cold and the gloom and the lack of jobs and the crime. Right now, Illinois is the 6th most populous state, but soon, Ohio will pass Illinois for number of people.
Now the places we’re going to talk about all fit into the ‘sucky’ category when it comes to quality of life. These upcoming cities are all perfect examples of struggling communities in this state, and a big reason why Illinois people are Illinoyed. Here are the worst places in Illinois that you could possibly live.

Is Illinois ALL crummy? Maybe not.
So the last time we talked about Illinois, we learned a lot of stuff. Like we learned that some of the best places to live in Illinois are going to be in many Chicago suburbs. These areas include places on the north and west side of Chicago - Clarendon Hills, Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Naperville and Evanston. This is where it’s very safe, and the schools are great, but it’s really expensive. We also learned that the worst places you can live in Illinois are going to be in south Chicago, west Chicago, East St. Louis, Rockford, Peoria and Decatur.
We figured out that the top part of the state is basically Wisconsin, the southern part of the state is basically Kentucky and the middle majority of the state is all smaller cities and corn fields which are really pretty in the summer, but drab and dreary for 6 months a year.
We also talked about how high taxes are in Illinois and talked about the population loss here - lots of people are fleeing Illinois for surrounding states like Wisconsin and Indiana or as far away as Colorado, Texas and Florida. Illinois is only one of a few states that lost people over the last decade. We’ll talk more about that later.
But there’s a lot more to Illinois than that. We didn’t talk about some Illinois history, interesting facts and the issues that people in Illinois face today.
So that’s what we’re gonna do in this video. Kind of pick up where we left off in a more lighthearted way. We’re going to look at all of that stuff and even meet some people who LIVE in Illinois who are gonna tell us what its like in their state and where you could move if you relocate here. Illinois (
i/ˌɪlᵻˈnɔɪ/ IL-i-NOY) is a state in the midwestern region of the United States. It is the 5th most populous state and 25th largest state in terms of land area, and is often noted as a microcosm of the entire country. With Chicago in the northeast, small industrial cities and great agricultural productivity in central and northern Illinois, and natural resources like coal, timber, and petroleum in the south, Illinois has a diverse economic base and is a major transportation hub. The Port of Chicago connects the state to other global ports from the Great Lakes, via the Saint Lawrence Seaway, to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River, via the Illinois River. For decades, O'Hare International Airport has been ranked as one of the world's busiest airports. Illinois has long had a reputation as a bellwether both in social and cultural terms and politics.
Although today the state's largest population center is around Chicago in the northern part of the state, the state's European population grew first in the west, with French Canadians who settled along the Mississippi River, and gave the area the name, Illinois. After the American Revolutionary War established the United States, American settlers began arriving from Kentucky in the 1810s via the Ohio River, and the population grew from south to north. In 1818, Illinois achieved statehood. After construction of the Erie Canal increased traffic and trade through the Great Lakes, Chicago was founded in the 1830s on the banks of the Chicago River, at one of the few natural harbors on southern Lake Michigan.John Deere's invention of the self-scouring steel plow turned Illinois' rich prairie into some of the world's most productive and valuable farmlands, attracting immigrant farmers from Germany and Sweden. Railroads carried immigrants to new homes, as well as being used to ship their commodity crops out to markets.

SS Illinois (1873)
SS Illinois was an iron passenger-cargo steamship built by William Cramp & Sons in 1873. The last of a series of four Pennsylvania-class vessels, Illinois and her three sister ships—Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana—were the largest iron ships ever built in the United States at the time of their construction, and amongst the first to be fitted with compound steam engines. They were also the first ships to challenge British dominance of the transatlantic trade since the American Civil War.
Though soon outclassed by newer and larger vessels, Illinois was destined to enjoy a long and distinguished career, first as a transatlantic passenger liner and later as the U.S. Navy's auxiliary vessel USS Supply. In the 1870s, Illinois may have been the first ship to successfully transport a shipment of fresh meat from the United States to Europe, twenty years before the introduction of refrigeration. As USS Supply, the ship served in both the Spanish–American War and the First World War, and crew members may have been the first United States personnel to fire a hostile shot in the latter. Illinois was scrapped in 1928.

Is Illinois more than corn, cornhole and Cubs and Cardinals fans? If you've ever been in Illinois you likely only went to one of the largest cities in the U.S; Chicago. If for whatever reason you found yourself further South you'd probably just get lost in a bunch of cornfields until you turned around and went back to Chicago.
Ah, Illinois. What a beautiful state. Home to Abraham Lincoln (our finest president), the state can really be divided up into four parts. You’ve got 'snobby' Chicago metro area, a small area that can be defined as Chicago suburbs, a section of Illinois that might as well be Wisconsin, and the rest of the state. The rest of Illinois is very large, and very much looks the same.
Now, since Chicago has a large part of the state’s population (17 percent to be exact), we'll be starting there. Don't worry though, we'll be covering all the action that takes place in the rest of Illinois, too. Try not to fall asleep when we get to that part.
Let's be real, Chicago is by far the most common reason for going to Illinois, bringing in 58 million visitors in 2018. A new record! With that many people coming and going, you'll have a hard time finding any parking, as most Chicagoans will tell you. Especially when it snows.
The heart of Chicago, The Loop, is synonymous with the downtown area of Chicago. Here you'll find everything from concerts and festivals to famous art pieces like Cloud Gate, which everyone just lovingly calls 'The Bean'
You'll find most of the safest spots in Chicago from the Loop and up north.
Next we have the Near North Side, probably the best place to live in the city. (If you can afford it) It's located just North of the beautiful Chicago River, the only river in the world that flows backwards.
Here, people are wealthy, and quite frankly, could be considered yuppies.
This is home to Chicago’s famous Magnificent Mile and The Original Gino’s East of Chicago. The best pizza in Chicago, depending on who you ask.
Of course Chicago is known for it's awesome food. Whether it's the no ketchup ever Chicago style hotdogs or the famous dish dish pizzas that commonly have wait times of over an hour, you'll find it in here.
Outside of Chicago you have the Chicago suburbs. This is where the wealthy, rich, smart, snobby people live. Places like Buffalo Grove, Naperville and Clarendon Hills always rank in terms of the best places to live in the entire country. The Chicago suburbs have much more greenways, parks and lots of places to swim and fish. There’s a good sense of community here.
People from Chicago can come across as snobby, possibly just because they love their city so much. But people from the rest of Illinois can't seem to agree with them on anything. This includes everything from politics and ideals to fashion and pizza toppings.
What about the weather? Well, it’s a gray, cold sort of place for most of the year. Winters in Illinois seem to start in October, and you can still expect a freak snowstorm in May. You basically get two good months a year - June and October. That’s really it. Summer is measured when the local ice cream shop opens up.
But all that miserable winter weather doesn’t stop mushroom season from happening every Spring. If you’ve never hunted for morel mushrooms, it’s actually pretty fun. Illinois folks NEVER tell others about their secret mushroom hunting spots.

If you haven’t heard the news, Illinois is kind of a sinking ship. A lot of people are leaving this state. In fact, more people left Illinois than any other state in the last decade. Last year alone, 51,029 people left the land of Lincoln, meaning .4% of folks skipped town. Many moved to nearby Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri and even into the southern states.
Every ten minutes someone leaves this state for good. By the end of this video, we’ll see another Illinois goodbye.
Why? For many reasons I’ll talk about, but generally, people are tired of the taxes and the government mismanagement. But it’s also the cold and the gloom and the lack of jobs and the crime. Right now, Illinois is the 6th most populous state, but soon, Ohio will pass Illinois for number of people.
Now the places we’re going to talk about all fit into the ‘sucky’ category when it comes to quality of life. These upcoming cities are all perfect examples of struggling communities in this state, and a big reason why Illinois people are Illinoyed. Here are the worst places in Illinois that you could possibly live.

Is Illinois ALL crummy? Maybe not.
So the last time we talked about Illinois, we learned a lot of stuff. Like we learned that some of the best places to live in Illinois are going to be in many Chicago suburbs. These areas include places on the north and west side of Chicago - Clarendon Hills, Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Naperville and Evanston. This is where it’s very safe, and the schools are great, but it’s really expensive. We also learned that the worst places you can live in Illinois are going to be in south Chicago, west Chicago, East St. Louis, Rockford, Peoria and Decatur.
We figured out that the top part of the state is basically Wisconsin, the southern part of the state is basically Kentucky and the middle majority of the state is all smaller cities and corn fields which are really pretty in the summer, but drab and dreary for 6 months a year.
We also talked about how high taxes are in Illinois and talked about the population loss here - lots of people are fleeing Illinois for surrounding states like Wisconsin and Indiana or as far away as Colorado, Texas and Florida. Illinois is only one of a few states that lost people over the last decade. We’ll talk more about that later.
But there’s a lot more to Illinois than that. We didn’t talk about some Illinois history, interesting facts and the issues that people in Illinois face today.
So that’s what we’re gonna do in this video. Kind of pick up where we left off in a more lighthearted way. We’re going to look at all of that stuff and even meet some people who LIVE in Illinois who are gonna tell us what its like in their state and where you could move if you relocate here. This research uses BERT for Word Sense Disambiguation use case in NLP by modeling the entire problem as sentence classification task using the Gloss knowledge. They show state-of-art results on benchmark datasets.
⏩ Abstract: Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD) aims to find the exact sense of an ambiguous word in a particular context. Traditional supervised methods rarely take into consideration the lexical resources like WordNet, which are widely utilized in knowledge-based methods. Recent studies have shown the effectiveness of incorporating gloss (sense definition) into neural networks for WSD. However, compared with traditional word expert supervised methods, they have not achieved much improvement. In this paper, we focus on how to better leverage gloss knowledge in a supervised neural WSD system. We construct context-gloss pairs and propose three BERT-based models for WSD. We fine-tune the pre-trained BERT model on SemCor3.0 training corpus and the experimental results on several English all-words WSD benchmark datasets show that our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art systems.

Compute resources are comparably lower than traditional legacy technology using big boxes 24/7. Scalability is crucial as Elsevier's Scopus data, the biggest scientific abstract repository, covers roughly 250 million authorships from 70 million abstracts covering a few hundred years. - We create a fingerprint for each content by deep learning and/or word2vec algorithms to expedite pairwise similarity calculation. These encoders substantially reduce compute time while maintaining semantic similarity (unlike traditional TFIDF or predefined taxonomies). We will briefly discuss how to optimize word2vec training with high parallelization. Moreover, we show how these encoders can be used to derive a standard representation for all our entities namely such as documents, authors, users, journals, etc. This standard representation can simplify the recommendation problem into a pairwise similarity search and hence it can offer a basic recommender for cross-product applications where we may not have a dedicate recommender engine designed. - Traditional author-disambiguation or record deduplication algorithms are batch-processing with small to no training data. However, we have roughly 25 million authorships that are manually curated or corrected upon user feedback. Hence, it is crucial to maintain historical profiles and hence we have developed a machine learning implementation to deal with data streams and process them in mini batches or one document at a time. We will discuss how to measure the accuracy of such a system, how to tune it and how to process the raw data of pairwise similarity function into final clusters. Lessons learned from this talk can help all sort of companies where they want to integrate their data or deduplicate their user/customer/product databases.

Disambiguation or Entity Linking is the assignment of a knowledge base identifier (Wikidata, Wikipedia) to a named entity. Our goal was to improve an MVP model by adding newly created knowledge while maintaining competitive F1 scores.
Taking an entity linking model from MVP into production in a spaCy-native pipeline architecture posed several data science and engineering challenges, such as hyperparameter estimation and knowledge enhancement, which we addressed by taking advantage of the engineering tools Docker and Kubernetes to semi-automate training as an on-demand job.
We also discuss some of our learnings and process improvements that were needed to strike a balance between data science goals and engineering constraints and present our current work on improving performance through BERT-embedding based contextual similarity.

The Sinking of the Columbia
Since the advent of steam-powered vessels, riverboats were a popular form of excursion. While somewhat dangerous at first (boiler explosions and general safety issues), riverboats had become a fairly safe way to travel by the early 1900's. One such popular vessel, was the Steamer Columbia, which sailed out of the port of Peoria, Illinois. On what was supposed to be a routine "Moonlight Excursion" to Alfresco Park, a popular amusement destination along the Illinois river in Peoria, something went terribly wrong. On the return voyage to Pekin, Illinois, the Columbia ran into a dense fog covering the river. With pressures to have everyone home by midnight, the pilot pressed on through the murk. “You shouldn’t open carry because someone is gonna sneak up behind you and take your gun and shoot you with it. Also, if you open carry, well now you become the target. Oh and by the way, you open carrying gives us all a bad name... so stop it. NOW!” There’s always been the discussion of why you shouldn’t open carry. osiedlili. Ale zdziwienie takie zniknie, gdy zważymy, że Polacy przybywający do Ameryki
po trzecim powstaniu polskim i później po wojnie francusko-pruskiej w r. 1870., nie byli
ludzie bogaci: nie znali oni nadto języka angielskiego; nie znali oni ani stosunków
amerykańskich a, co gorsza, nie mieli oni żadnego kierownika, któryby mógł ich
poprowadzić w strony dla nich najkorzystniejsze. Stąd też rodacy nasi dawali wiarę różnym
jednostkom a szczególnie, jak to jeszcze dziś u nas bywa, cokolwiek w gazecie wyczytali,
uważali to za świętą prawdę. Oto niektóre przyczyny, które sprowadziły Polaków do
Radomia tak jak i do innych miejsc.
Początki Radomia, jak w ogóle początki wszystkich koloni, należą do najciekawszych przyczynków historycznych.
ZAŁOŻYCIELEM Radomia, w interesie kolei Illinois Central i w swoim, był
Generał Jan Bazyli Turczyn. Długoletnim jego współpracownikiem był Mikołaj Michalski.
Z niemałym zainteresowaniem dopomagali także śp. Piotr Kiołbasa i Jan Szerman.
GAZETA KATOLICKA PISZE O RADOMIU.
ODTĄD przychodzą Polacy coraz to liczniej, tak iż w ciągu następnych trzech do
sześć lat, osiedliła się większość obecnie się znajdujących Polaków w Radomiu, DuBois,
Sheller i Poznaniu. Pod datą 25 stycznia, r. 1876 czytamy w Gazecie Katolickiej o
Radomiu, co następuje: „Niema jeszcze trzech lat, kiedy pierwsza partia Polaków zakupiła
nie wielkie przestrzenie gruntów, a zaledwie dwa lata mijają, gdy przybysze pobudowali
mieszkania, a już Radom wzrosło, tak że około 450 osób wkrótce 600 familii będzie." Jest
bezwątpienia trochę przesady co do owych 600 familii; bądź co bądź wzrost tej osady był
szybki. Osiedlili się tu przeważnie wychodźcy z Poznańskiego z Kaszub i ze Śląska.
Radom też jest tym korzeniem głównym, z którego wypuściły kolejno parafie w Dubois, w
Sheller, w Poznaniu i Tamaroa.
BUDOWA PIERWSZEGO KOŚCIOŁA.
WYCHOWANI religijnie jeszcze w Ojczyźnie, rodacy nasi którzy na początku
przybyli do Radomia, aczkolwiek nie liczni, pomyśleli o własnym kościółku. Niektórzy z
nich nie mieli jeszcze dachu nad własną głową a już troszczyli się o świątynię, gdzie by
Boga mogli chwalić za Jego Opatrzność nad sobą; gdzie- by mogli, wśród niedostatku,
zanosić przed ołtarz Pański swoje cierpienia i potrzeby a w zamian prosić Boga o litość i
błogosławieństwo. I tu się znowu sprawdza, co tak często i w innych okolicach się okazywało,
że nasi starzy ojcowie posiadali głęboką wiarę, która im dopomagała do
przezwyciężenia największych prób.
Wpierw wykarczowano dębinę stojącą gdzie obecnie ulica prowadzi od kolei do
kościoła. Nie było wówczas wiele wozów ni koni zaprzężnych jak również żadnych dróg,
więc pionierzy nasi dźwigali belki (leski na barkach swoich od stacji kolejowej na miejsce
budowy. Budulec z białej sosny sprowadzono bowiem z Chicago. Także Gen. Turczyn i
Michalski dokładali się do budowy kościoła, gdyż dopomagało im to do rozszerzenia i
ustalenia kolonii polskiej. Fundusz na budowę kolektowali Kiołbasa, Szerman i inni w
Chicago. W listopadzie, r. 1873, chociaż było dotychczas dopiero coś około 15 rodzin,
rozpoczęto budowę kościółka. Głównym cieślą był Maciej Dudzik, któremu dopomagali
Jan Dawicki, Woj. Malinowski i prawie wszyscy ówcześni parafianie. Kościółek ten,
później powiększony przez nadbudowanie poprzecznego skrzydła, służył za dom Boży aż dotąd.
WYŻSZA SZKOŁA W RADOMIU
W Radomiu ks. Wołłowski zakupił, lub też za porozumieniem z Turczynem
otrzymał od spółki Illinois Central, 40 akrów roli na kilka set jardów na północ od stacji
kolejowej a około trzy bloki od kościoła. Tu swoim kosztem wystawił dwupiętrowy
budynek z drzewa, przeznaczony na wyższą szkołę.

However, people have been sharing pictures online showing how cities and places have changed over years by comparing them to the old photos. By looking at these 'then and now' photos, the changes become highlighted and easier to differentiate. I have put together a collection of these kind of photos, showing how particular living spaces transformed over the years. Please check the video to see how places in the past look today.

Since the advent of steam-powered vessels, riverboats were a popular form of excursion. While somewhat dangerous at first (boiler explosions and general safety issues), riverboats had become a fairly safe way to travel by the early 1900's. One such popular vessel, was the Steamer Columbia, which sailed out of the port of Peoria, Illinois. On what was supposed to be a routine "Moonlight Excursion" to Alfresco Park, a popular amusement destination along the Illinois river in Peoria, something went terribly wrong. On the return voyage to Pekin, Illinois, the Columbia ran into a dense fog covering the river. With pressures to have everyone home by midnight, the pilot pressed on through the murk. With no visual landmarks, two 90-degree bends in the river, and a sand bar, the boat ran aground on the Peoria County side of the river, across from Wesley City (now present day Creve Coeur). Fearing the worst, Captain Herman Mehl ordered the hull to be checked for water. The engineer and the first mate discovered the hull was flooded. Whether it a submerged stump or other debris, a decision had to be made. The captain ordered the pilot, Tom Williams to "Run her ashore!" As the river was not that deep, the pilot figured he had enough time to move the vessel to the other shore, where there would be help available from the small mining and fishing village. They could never have predicted what happened next.

Due to their intelligence, adaptability, and prolific breeding habits, traditional methods of hunting and trapping have been largely ineffective in reducing the feral hog population. The introduction of night vision and thermal optics has greatly increased landowners' ability to mitigate the destruction caused by feral hogs.
Feral swine are not considered game animals in Texas and may be hunted by any means or methods at any time of year.

There’s always been the discussion of why you shouldn’t open carry. I’ve seen videos and read articles on this and I just keep finding myself not agreeing a whole lot with people who say that open carry is a “bad” idea.
Now, I totally understand that there are situations where open carry is NOT a good idea, and we’ll get to those in a minute but to say that it’s just completely wrong, well, that is where I can’t agree.
If you don’t feel comfortable open carrying then don’t do it. Please. BUT, if you’ve been thinking about it then maybe this video will help. At the end it’s all up to you.

Is Illinois more than corn, cornhole and Cubs and Cardinals fans? If you've ever been in Illinois you likely only went to one of the largest cities in the U.S; Chicago. If for whatever reason you found yourself further South you'd probably just get lost in a bunch of cornfields until you turned around and went back to Chicago.
Ah, Illinois. What a beautiful state. Home to Abraham Lincoln (our finest president), the state can really be divided up into four parts. You’ve got 'snobby' Chicago metro area, a small area that can be defined as Chicago suburbs, a section of Illinois that might as well be Wisconsin, and the rest of the state. The rest of Illinois is very large, and very much looks the same.
Now, since Chicago has a large part of the state’s population (17 percent to be exact), we'll be starting there. Don't worry though, we'll be covering all the action that takes place in the rest of Illinois, too. Try not to fall asleep when we get to that part.
Let's be real, Chicago is by far the most common reason for going to Illinois, bringing in 58 million visitors in 2018. A new record! With that many people coming and going, you'll have a hard time finding any parking, as most Chicagoans will tell you. Especially when it snows.
The heart of Chicago, The Loop, is synonymous with the downtown area of Chicago. Here you'll find everything from concerts and festivals to famous art pieces like Cloud Gate, which everyone just lovingly calls 'The Bean'
You'll find most of the safest spots in Chicago from the Loop and up north.
Next we have the Near North Side, probably the best place to live in the city. (If you can afford it) It's located just North of the beautiful Chicago River, the only river in the world that flows backwards.
Here, people are wealthy, and quite frankly, could be considered yuppies.
This is home to Chicago’s famous Magnificent Mile and The Original Gino’s East of Chicago. The best pizza in Chicago, depending on who you ask.
Of course Chicago is known for it's awesome food. Whether it's the no ketchup ever Chicago style hotdogs or the famous dish dish pizzas that commonly have wait times of over an hour, you'll find it in here.
Outside of Chicago you have the Chicago suburbs. This is where the wealthy, rich, smart, snobby people live. Places like Buffalo Grove, Naperville and Clarendon Hills always rank in terms of the best places to live in the entire country. The Chicago suburbs have much more greenways, parks and lots of places to swim and fish. There’s a good sense of community here.
People from Chicago can come across as snobby, possibly just because they love their city so much. But people from the rest of Illinois can't seem to agree with them on anything. This includes everything from politics and ideals to fashion and pizza toppings.
What about the weather? Well, it’s a gray, cold sort of place for most of the year. Winters in Illinois seem to start in October, and you can still expect a freak snowstorm in May. You basically get two good months a year - June and October. That’s really it. Summer is measured when the local ice cream shop opens up.
But all that miserable winter weather doesn’t stop mushroom season from happening every Spring. If you’ve never hunted for morel mushrooms, it’s actually pretty fun. Illinois folks NEVER tell others about their secret mushroom hunting spots.

Move to these places and you're gonna regret it big time!
If you haven’t heard the news, Illinois is kind of a sinking ship. A lot of people are leaving this state. In fact, more people left Illinois than any other state in the last decade. Last year alone, 51,029 people left the land of Lincoln, meaning .4% of folks skipped town. Many moved to nearby Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri and even into the southern states.
Every ten minutes someone leaves this state for good. By the end of this video, we’ll see another Illinois goodbye.
Why? For many reasons I’ll talk about, but generally, people are tired of the taxes and the government mismanagement. But it’s also the cold and the gloom and the lack of jobs and the crime. Right now, Illinois is the 6th most populous state, but soon, Ohio will pass Illinois for number of people.
Now the places we’re going to talk about all fit into the ‘sucky’ category when it comes to quality of life. These upcoming cities are all perfect examples of struggling communities in this state, and a big reason why Illinois people are Illinoyed. Here are the worst places in Illinois that you could possibly live.

Is Illinois ALL crummy? Maybe not.
So the last time we talked about Illinois, we learned a lot of stuff. Like we learned that some of the best places to live in Illinois are going to be in many Chicago suburbs. These areas include places on the north and west side of Chicago - Clarendon Hills, Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Naperville and Evanston. This is where it’s very safe, and the schools are great, but it’s really expensive. We also learned that the worst places you can live in Illinois are going to be in south Chicago, west Chicago, East St. Louis, Rockford, Peoria and Decatur.
We figured out that the top part of the state is basically Wisconsin, the southern part of the state is basically Kentucky and the middle majority of the state is all smaller cities and corn fields which are really pretty in the summer, but drab and dreary for 6 months a year.
We also talked about how high taxes are in Illinois and talked about the population loss here - lots of people are fleeing Illinois for surrounding states like Wisconsin and Indiana or as far away as Colorado, Texas and Florida. Illinois is only one of a few states that lost people over the last decade. We’ll talk more about that later.
But there’s a lot more to Illinois than that. We didn’t talk about some Illinois history, interesting facts and the issues that people in Illinois face today.
So that’s what we’re gonna do in this video. Kind of pick up where we left off in a more lighthearted way. We’re going to look at all of that stuff and even meet some people who LIVE in Illinois who are gonna tell us what its like in their state and where you could move if you relocate here. Illinois
Illinois (i/ˌɪlᵻˈnɔɪ/ IL-i-NOY) is a state in the midwestern region of the United States. It is the 5th most populous state and 25th largest state in terms of land area, and is often noted as a microcosm of the entire country. With Chicago in the northeast, small industrial cities and great agricultural productivity in central and northern Illinois, and natural resources like coal, timber, and petroleum in the south, Illinois has a diverse economic base and is a major transportation hub. The Port of Chicago connects the state to other global ports from the Great Lakes, via the Saint Lawrence Seaway, to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River, via the Illinois River. For decades, O'Hare International Airport has been ranked as one of the world's busiest airports. Illinois has long had a reputation as a bellwether both in social and cultural terms and politics.
Although today the state's largest population center is around Chicago in the northern part of the state, the state's European population grew first in the west, with French Canadians who settled along the Mississippi River, and gave the area the name, Illinois. After the American Revolutionary War established the United States, American settlers began arriving from Kentucky in the 1810s via the Ohio River, and the population grew from south to north. In 1818, Illinois achieved statehood. After construction of the Erie Canal increased traffic and trade through the Great Lakes, Chicago was founded in the 1830s on the banks of the Chicago River, at one of the few natural harbors on southern Lake Michigan.John Deere's invention of the self-scouring steel plow turned Illinois' rich prairie into some of the world's most productive and valuable farmlands, attracting immigrant farmers from Germany and Sweden. Railroads carried immigrants to new homes, as well as being used to ship their commodity crops out to markets.

This research uses BERT for Word Sense Disambiguation use case in NLP by modeling the entire problem as sentence classification task using the Gloss knowledge. They show state-of-art results on benchmark datasets.
⏩ Abstract: Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD) aims to find the exact sense of an ambiguous word in a particular context. Traditional supervised methods rarely take into consideration the lexical resources like WordNet, which are widely utilized in knowledge-based methods. Recent studies have shown the effectiveness of incorporating gloss (sense definition) into neural networks for WSD. However, compared with traditional word expert supervised methods, they have not achieved much improvement. In this paper, we focus on how to better leverage gloss knowledge in a supervised neural WSD system. We construct context-gloss pairs and propose three BERT-based models for WSD. We fine-tune the pre-trained BERT model on SemCor3.0 training corpus and the experimental results on several English all-words WSD benchmark datasets show that our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art systems.

"Here we present a general supervised framework for record deduplication and author-disambiguation via Spark. This work differentiates itself by - Application of Databricks and AWS makes this a scalable implementation. Compute resources are comparably lower than traditional legacy technology using big boxes 24/7. Scalability is crucial as Elsevier's Scopus data, the biggest scientific abstract repository, covers roughly 250 million authorships from 70 million abstracts covering a few hundred years. - We create a fingerprint for each content by deep learning and/or word2vec algorithms to expedite pairwise similarity calculation. These encoders substantially reduce compute time while maintaining semantic similarity (unlike traditional TFIDF or predefined taxonomies). We will briefly discuss how to optimize word2vec training with high parallelization. Moreover, we show how these encoders can be used to derive a standard representation for all our entities namely such as documents, authors, users, journals, etc. This standard representation can simplify the recommendation problem into a pairwise similarity search and hence it can offer a basic recommender for cross-product applications where we may not have a dedicate recommender engine designed. - Traditional author-disambiguation or record deduplication algorithms are batch-processing with small to no training data. However, we have roughly 25 million authorships that are manually curated or corrected upon user feedback. Hence, it is crucial to maintain historical profiles and hence we have developed a machine learning implementation to deal with data streams and process them in mini batches or one document at a time. We will discuss how to measure the accuracy of such a system, how to tune it and how to process the raw data of pairwise similarity function into final clusters. Lessons learned from this talk can help all sort of companies where they want to integrate their data or deduplicate their user/customer/product databases.

Disambiguation or Entity Linking is the assignment of a knowledge base identifier (Wikidata, Wikipedia) to a named entity. Our goal was to improve an MVP model by adding newly created knowledge while maintaining competitive F1 scores.
Taking an entity linking model from MVP into production in a spaCy-native pipeline architecture posed several data science and engineering challenges, such as hyperparameter estimation and knowledge enhancement, which we addressed by taking advantage of the engineering tools Docker and Kubernetes to semi-automate training as an on-demand job.
We also discuss some of our learnings and process improvements that were needed to strike a balance between data science goals and engineering constraints and present our current work on improving performance through BERT-embedding based contextual similarity.

po trzecim powstaniu polskim i później po wojnie francusko-pruskiej w r. 1870., nie byli
ludzie bogaci: nie znali oni nadto języka angielskiego; nie znali oni ani stosunków
amerykańskich a, co gorsza, nie mieli oni żadnego kierownika, któryby mógł ich
poprowadzić w strony dla nich najkorzystniejsze. Stąd też rodacy nasi dawali wiarę różnym
jednostkom a szczególnie, jak to jeszcze dziś u nas bywa, cokolwiek w gazecie wyczytali,
uważali to za świętą prawdę. Oto niektóre przyczyny, które sprowadziły Polaków do
Radomia tak jak i do innych miejsc.
Początki Radomia, jak w ogóle początki wszystkich koloni, należą do najciekawszych przyczynków historycznych.
ZAŁOŻYCIELEM Radomia, w interesie kolei Illinois Central i w swoim, był
Generał Jan Bazyli Turczyn. Długoletnim jego współpracownikiem był Mikołaj Michalski.
Z niemałym zainteresowaniem dopomagali także śp. Piotr Kiołbasa i Jan Szerman.
GAZETA KATOLICKA PISZE O RADOMIU.
ODTĄD przychodzą Polacy coraz to liczniej, tak iż w ciągu następnych trzech do
sześć lat, osiedliła się większość obecnie się znajdujących Polaków w Radomiu, DuBois,
Sheller i Poznaniu. Pod datą 25 stycznia, r. 1876 czytamy w Gazecie Katolickiej o
Radomiu, co następuje: „Niema jeszcze trzech lat, kiedy pierwsza partia Polaków zakupiła
nie wielkie przestrzenie gruntów, a zaledwie dwa lata mijają, gdy przybysze pobudowali
mieszkania, a już Radom wzrosło, tak że około 450 osób wkrótce 600 familii będzie." Jest
bezwątpienia trochę przesady co do owych 600 familii; bądź co bądź wzrost tej osady był
szybki. Osiedlili się tu przeważnie wychodźcy z Poznańskiego z Kaszub i ze Śląska.
Radom też jest tym korzeniem głównym, z którego wypuściły kolejno parafie w Dubois, w
Sheller, w Poznaniu i Tamaroa.
BUDOWA PIERWSZEGO KOŚCIOŁA.
WYCHOWANI religijnie jeszcze w Ojczyźnie, rodacy nasi którzy na początku
przybyli do Radomia, aczkolwiek nie liczni, pomyśleli o własnym kościółku. Niektórzy z
nich nie mieli jeszcze dachu nad własną głową a już troszczyli się o świątynię, gdzie by
Boga mogli chwalić za Jego Opatrzność nad sobą; gdzie- by mogli, wśród niedostatku,
zanosić przed ołtarz Pański swoje cierpienia i potrzeby a w zamian prosić Boga o litość i
błogosławieństwo. I tu się znowu sprawdza, co tak często i w innych okolicach się okazywało,
że nasi starzy ojcowie posiadali głęboką wiarę, która im dopomagała do
przezwyciężenia największych prób.
Wpierw wykarczowano dębinę stojącą gdzie obecnie ulica prowadzi od kolei do
kościoła. Nie było wówczas wiele wozów ni koni zaprzężnych jak również żadnych dróg,
więc pionierzy nasi dźwigali belki (leski na barkach swoich od stacji kolejowej na miejsce
budowy. Budulec z białej sosny sprowadzono bowiem z Chicago. Także Gen. Turczyn i
Michalski dokładali się do budowy kościoła, gdyż dopomagało im to do rozszerzenia i
ustalenia kolonii polskiej. Fundusz na budowę kolektowali Kiołbasa, Szerman i inni w
Chicago. W listopadzie, r. 1873, chociaż było dotychczas dopiero coś około 15 rodzin,
rozpoczęto budowę kościółka. Głównym cieślą był Maciej Dudzik, któremu dopomagali
Jan Dawicki, Woj. Malinowski i prawie wszyscy ówcześni parafianie. Kościółek ten,
później powiększony przez nadbudowanie poprzecznego skrzydła, służył za dom Boży aż dotąd.
WYŻSZA SZKOŁA W RADOMIU
W Radomiu ks. Wołłowski zakupił, lub też za porozumieniem z Turczynem
otrzymał od spółki Illinois Central, 40 akrów roli na kilka set jardów na północ od stacji
kolejowej a około trzy bloki od kościoła. Tu swoim kosztem wystawił dwupiętrowy
budynek z drzewa, przeznaczony na wyższą szkołę.

Since the advent of steam-powered vessels, riverboats were a popular form of excursion. While somewhat dangerous at first (boiler explosions and general safety issues), riverboats had become a fairly safe way to travel by the early 1900's. One such popular vessel, was the Steamer Columbia, which sailed out of the port of Peoria, Illinois. On what was supposed to be a routine "Moonlight Excursion" to Alfresco Park, a popular amusement destination along the Illinois river in Peoria, something went terribly wrong. On the return voyage to Pekin, Illinois, the Columbia ran into a dense fog covering the river. With pressures to have everyone home by midnight, the pilot pressed on through the murk. With no visual landmarks, two 90-degree bends in the river, and a sand bar, the boat ran aground on the Peoria County side of the river, across from Wesley City (now present day Creve Coeur). Fearing the worst, Captain Herman Mehl ordered the hull to be checked for water. The engineer and the first mate discovered the hull was flooded. Whether it a submerged stump or other debris, a decision had to be made. The captain ordered the pilot, Tom Williams to "Run her ashore!" As the river was not that deep, the pilot figured he had enough time to move the vessel to the other shore, where there would be help available from the small mining and fishing village. They could never have predicted what happened next.

Feral hogs are a non-native and invasive species in Texas. Each year hogs cause millions of dollars in damage in the form of damaged crops, contaminated water supplies, broken equipment, transmission of diseases and injury to livestock.
Feral hogs compete with native wildlife for resources and also prey directly on the eggs and young of ground nesting birds and will actively hunt small mammals, frogs, lizards and snakes.
Due to their intelligence, adaptability, and prolific breeding habits, traditional methods of hunting and trapping have been largely ineffective in reducing the feral hog population. The introduction of night vision and thermal optics has greatly increased landowners' ability to mitigate the destruction caused by feral hogs.
Feral swine are not considered game animals in Texas and may be hunted by any means or methods at any time of year.

There’s always been the discussion of why you shouldn’t open carry. I’ve seen videos and read articles on this and I just keep finding myself not agreeing a whole lot with people who say that open carry is a “bad” idea.
Now, I totally understand that there are situations where open carry is NOT a good idea, and we’ll get to those in a minute but to say that it’s just completely wrong, well, that is where I can’t agree.
If you don’t feel comfortable open carrying then don’t do it. Please. BUT, if you’ve been thinking about it then maybe this video will help. At the end it’s all up to you.
