Yukon River - A Journey into the Wild (Part 1: The Big River)
A Journey into the Wild: Canoeing theYukon River from Big Salmon Village to Carmacks (in August 2010) Part 1: The Big River (This is a sequel to my other series: Canoeing the Big Salmon River, Parts 1 to 5) Due to a bunch of serious accidents, which happened this summer ... Please be advised: Although this movie might suggest that the Big Salmon/Yukon River is a smooth family adventure: This canoe trip is a serious wilderness adventure, which needs adequate equipment and solid preparation. And most of all: You will need very advanced outdoor experience and excellent paddling skills. Keep in mind: Throughout the trip you are on your own!

Old Paddle steamer on the Yukon River
this is an old paddle ship that we came across whilst canoeing the Yukon River, it has been on dry land for over a 100 years. They got pulled up onto land during the winter for when the river froze over, so the ice did not damage the ship.

Paddling The Yukon River-1984
This is a quick slide show of my voyage down the mighty Yukon river during the summer of 1984. I spent 7 weeks and paddled solo approximately 1800 miles from the headwater lakes in nortwest British Columbia, then 500 miles through the Yukon Territory, and on across Alaska to the Bering Sea. It was one of the most magical summers of my life and you can find a more complete account of the trip by clicking on my website link on the front page.

Kayaking the Yukon River, Alaska, Canada 1966
My brother James, a friend Jim and myself in 1966 traveled 700 miles on the Yukon River in two kayaks. Took 26 days. It was a great adventure for a 18 year old kid. In this video we were just trying to get across the Yukon River from an island we camped on to a creek on the other side to get some fresh clear water. It was an effort! Yukon River Journey in a kayak
I wrote this song a few years ago in open G tuning and was originally sung with lyrics written by my opera singer friend Sonja Anderson. I decided to record it with a flute line instead of vocals because I felt the lyrics took away from the floating mood of the guitar line. She's ok with this now, but at the time...well... It's all about the song, The song is the star and tough choices have to be made. It's on my Bucks and Honey CD "Foolish Thing" and is probably still available through the Internet somewhere if you're interested. There is a part on the Yukon River called Five Finger Rapids and this part is reflected in the B section of the song. It's a bit rushed but there's only three minutes of video on the little camera so that's why it moves along a little quick. I couldn't have found a better place to play the tune and it's the first time I've been through the rapids so it was a great day.
