Kenneth Leonard "Ki-Jana" Carter (/kiːˈdʒɑːnə/; born September 12, 1973) is a former American college and professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons. He played college football for Penn State University, and earned All-American honors. He was the No. 1 draft pick in the 1995 NFL Draft, and he played professionally for the Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Redskins and New Orleans Saints, but his career was cut short by an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Carter was born in Westerville, Ohio. His nickname, "Ki-Jana", is from a character in the movie Shaft in Africa and he has gone by that name since his birth. At Westerville South High School, he starred in football, basketball, and track. In football, he was a 1991 Parade magazine high school All-American.

The National Football League Draft, also called the player selection meeting, is an annual event in which the National Football League (NFL) teams select eligible college football players. It serves as the league's most common source of player recruitment. The basic design of the draft is that each team is given a position in the drafting order in reverse order relative to its record in the previous year, which means that the last place team is positioned first. From this position, the team can either select a player or trade their position to another team for other draft positions, a player or players, or any combination thereof. The round is complete when each team has either selected a player or traded its draft position. Certain aspects of the draft, including team positioning and the number of rounds in the draft, have seen revisions since its first creation in 1936, but the fundamental methodology has remained the same. Currently the draft consists of seven rounds. The original rationale in creating the draft was to increase the competitive parity between the teams as the worst team would, ideally, have chosen the best player available.
A compilation of some of Ki-Jana Carter's highlights at Penn State University. Probably the best tailback Penn State had under Paterno, which is saying something when other names include Curt Warner, Franco Harris, Blair Thomas, Larry Johnson, and Lydell Mitchel. If not for a devastating knee injury, Ki-Jana Carter most likely would've become a generational talent at running back in the pros. The games I used to take the clips from can be found on Stephen Barnett's youtube channel (and there were a few other channels I used as well that you can find if you look around): https://www.youtube.com/user/sbbarnet... In the 1995 Rose Bowl, Ki-Jana Carter exploded 83-yards for a touchdown on Penn State's first offensive play from scrimmage. If there is one play that serves as a microcosm of Penn State's perfect 12-0 1994 season, it's this one - which displays the speed, power and explosiveness of arguably the greatest offense in college football history.
