The early Norwegian black metal scene was a black metal music scene and subculture in Norway during the early 1990s. It is credited with creating the modern black metal genre and produced some of the most highly acclaimed and influential artists in extreme metal.
The scene attracted massive media attention when it was revealed that its members had been responsible for two murders and a wave of church burnings in Norway. The scene had an ideology and ethos and was likened to a cult, with the core members referring to themselves as "The Black Circle" or "Black Metal Inner Circle". It consisted primarily of young men, many of whom gathered at the record shop Helvete ("Hell") in Oslo. In interviews, they voiced extreme anti-Christian and misanthropic views, presenting themselves as genuine Satanists who wanted to spread terror, hatred and evil. They adopted pseudonyms and appeared in photographs wearing 'corpse paint' and wielding medieval weaponry. The scene was exclusive and created boundaries around itself, incorporating only those it deemed to be "true" or committed. Musical integrity was highly important and artists wanted black metal to remain underground and uncorrupted.
Black metal is an extreme subgenre and subculture of heavy metal music. Common traits include fast tempos, shrieking (sometimes growling or both) vocal style, heavily distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, raw (lo-fi) recording, unconventional song structures, and an emphasis on atmosphere, though many other characteristics and techniques may be employed. Artists often appear in corpse paint and adopt pseudonyms.
During the 1980s, several thrash and death metal bands formed a prototype for black metal. This so-called first wave included bands such as Venom, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. A second wave arose in the early 1990s, spearheaded by Norwegian bands such as Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum, Gorgoroth, Immortal and Emperor. The early Norwegian black metal scene developed the style of their forebears into a distinct genre. Norwegian-inspired black metal scenes emerged throughout Europe and North America, although some other scenes developed their own styles independently. Some prominent Swedish bands spawned during this second wave. Bands such as Marduk, Nifelheim and Dark Funeral are notable examples.

More black metal history. I make these videos because I want to dispell the myths and to undermine the lies of the mainstream media and the left-wing metal media, both responsible for spreading lies for more than two decades now. There is more to say about this subject, but I intend to only talk about one or two things at the time. I might do more of these videos in the future. If you intend to comment, please watch the video before you do, and also please behave in the commentfield. If you don't behave your comments will be removed and you will be banned from commenting. I got really annoyed about most of the video's with the 'True Norwegian Black Metal' title which contained crappy bands. So i decided to make my own. Almost every song in this video is an early release (around 1993). Most of the bands have a completely different sound now. Bands who really changed with their sound and lineup are: - Darkthrone (Their new releases have more punk influences like the F.O.A.D Album and Dark Thrones and Black Flags. I also recommend those albums if you are a black metal listener who is also into some old skool punk. - Mayhem (The guitarist on Deathcrush 'Euronymous' (very very famous name in the black metal scene) got murdered by Varg Vikernes (Burzum) due several reasons. The guy on the right of that picture called 'Dead' he is not on the Deathcrush rec...

This (may be) a pretty dated list in some ways, and there have been some cool black metal albums and bands since, not to mention great albums by bands mentioned. But this list is mainly about albums that had the most impact on me, especially at the time when I was first getting into Black Meal and have had a huge influence on me musically.

Debut album from the Mexican Black Metal band Helvete
Originally performed by Venom
Black is the night, metal we fight
Power amps set to explode
Energy screams, magic and dreams
Satan records the first note.
We chime the hell, chaos and hell
Metal for maniacs pure.
Fast melting steel, fortune on wheels
For BLACK METAL
lay down your sold to the gods rock'n'roll
Freaking so wild, nobody's mild
Giving it all that you've got.
Wild is so right, metal tonight
Faster than over the top.
Open the door, enter hells core
Black is the code for tonight
Atomic force, feel no remorse
Trunk up the amps now it's night
BLACK METAL
lay down your soul to the gods rock'n'roll
metal ten fold through the deadly black hole
riding hells stallions bareback and free
faking our chances with raw energy
Come ride the night with us
Rock hard and fight
United my legions we stand
Freak hard and wild for us
Give up your souls
Live for the guest satans band
Against the adds, black metal gods
Fight to achieve our goal
Tasting a spell, leather and hell
Black metal gods rock'n'roll
Building up steam, nuclear screams
War-heads are ready to fight
Black leather hounds, faster than sound
Metal our purpose in life.
