The Story of Television (1956) Radio Corporation of America
The Story of Television (1956) Radio Corporation of America
Shows efforts of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in the creation, development and introduction of the all-electronic TV system; explains how science made television a working reality. David Sarnoff tells of the early research and experiments. Shown is the first successful picture tube, the first experimental TV station, the problems of improving picture quality and reducing the size and cost of components at the transmitting and receiving ends, and the function of mobile units. Actual scenes from TV "firsts" are included -- President Roosevelt opening the 1939 New York World's Fair, the visit of the King and Queen of England, and the 1940 Republican Convention in Philadelphia. Animated diagrams demonstrate how a TV camera converts electronic beams into a picture. Producer: Ganz (William J.) Co. Weird Electronics - An interview with Ben Gross about the Radio Corporation of America
The Radio Corporation of America (RCA) creates vinyl records that play video, and a subversive scientist covertly ruins an RCA technical report. Hear about the odd discoveries postdoctoral fellow Ben Gross has made through his research on the development of the LCD at RCA. "Behind the Beaker" is CHF's interview series with scholars and fellows. OLA HORHE - Hotel Moscow (official video)
This video was made by "found footage" technique. OLA HORHE recorded their debut album which will be released on vinyl. Concept was to re-edit the old film found on internet, showing the process of making vinyl records, in a slightly psychedelic way. The original film was made in 1956 by Radio Corporation of America.

In Verse: Women of Troy
In Verse is a multi-media project that combines poetry, photography and audio footage to create "documentary poems" for radio, the web, print and iPhone.
This installment of features poet Susan B. A. Somers-Willett and photographer Brenda Ann Kenneally as they document the lives of working mothers in Troy, New York. This new work grows from Kenneally's multi-year reporting project. http://www.upstategirls.org/
Labor historians have argued that Troy was the prototype for the industrialization of America and “the most important city during the Industrial Revolution.” Troy’s beginnings stand in stark contrast to its current social conditions. Today, roughly one-fifth of the population lives below the U.S. poverty line; most families in Troy survive on minimum wage jobs.
In Verse comes to you from Public Radio Makers Quest 2.0, an initiative of AIR, the Association of Independents in Radio, Incorporated. This project is made possible with funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. In Verse is also generously supported by Virginia Quarterly Review. Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen is the broadcast partner for In Verse. In Verse was created by Ted Genoways and Lu Olkowski.
