On February 29, 2012, Tobin Rote was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame along with a number of other Texas Sports figures.
Why do athletes play the game?
For some it is for the Glory, for most it’s the Money. For others it is the quest to win a Championship. In the end only the Best of the Best end up in their sport’s Hall of Fame. In this program we look at a particular athlete whose Hall of Fame selection committee have for one reason or another neglected to select, and begs us to slap our collective foreheads and exclaim… HELLO!? HALL OF FAME!!
For the mostpart each Hall of Fame admittance is dictated by the media, and my hope is that these videos will help sway these voters to make a choice, the right choice. Hopefully they will help put these men and women where they rightfully belong, among the greatest to ever play the game.

The 1957 National Football League championship game was the 25th annual championship game. The NFL title game was held on December 29, 1957 at Briggs Stadium, in Detroit, Michigan. The game was the fourth pairing of the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns in the championship game. The Lions, who beat the Browns in 3 of those 4 title games, have not appeared in or won an NFL championship game (including the Super Bowl) since; the closest they have come to date was a berth in the 1992 NFC Championship Game, which they lost to the Washington Redskins.
The Browns had won the Eastern Conference with a record of 9–2–1 while the Lions had to play a playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers in the previous week.
Game summary:
While the Lions were without injured starting quarterback Bobby Layne, backup QB Tobin Rote filled in admirably, throwing four touchdown passes, completing 12 of 19 passes for 280 yards, and running in for another touchdown. O'Connell and Plum, on the other hand hit on a combined total of 9 of 22 passes for 112 yards. Taking full advantage of a pass interception and a fumble, Detroit ran up a 17-0 lead in the first quarter. Jim Brown gave the Cleveland rooters some hope with a 30-yard touchdown swing at the start of the second period. Then, things went from bad to worse for the Browns, hampered by injuries to quarterbacks Tommy O'Connell and Milt Plum. The Lions romped for 14 points in each of the last three quarters

Brady reached 300 yards for the ninth time in his postseason career, tying Peyton Manning for the most such games in postseason history.

The Lions franchise originated in Portsmouth, Ohio as the Spartans, which played as an independent before joining the NFL in 1930. In that early Era the quarterback position was not defined as it is today. The leader in passing yards in used until 1947, when the teams first true quarterback , Clyde LeForce, was added to the Roster. The acquired Football card image has his name misspelled as La Force. Bobby Layne lead the to Lions to NFL Championships in 1952, 1953, & 1957. After being injured in 1958 the Lions traded him to Pittsburgh, mid season. Tobin Rote
Tobin Cornelius Rote (January 18, 1928 – June 27, 2000) was an American football player who played quarterback for the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL), the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos of the American Football League (AFL).
Early life
Born in San Antonio, Texas, to William Pemberton Rote, Jr. (1891–1950) and Augusta Marie (Tietschert) Rote (1896–1969). Rote attended Harlandale High School in San Antonio and graduated in 1946. He was named "most athletic boy" by his classmates.
He is the cousin of former New York Giants receiver and sportscaster Kyle Rote, sharing paternal grandparents.
College career
Rote played college football at Rice Institute in Houston, quarterbacking the Owls under head coach Jess Neely. As a senior in 1949, Rote led the Owls to a 10–1 season, capped by a 27–13 win over North Carolina in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on January 2.
During the fourth game of the season in mid-October against rival SMU (that featured cousin Kyle Rote), he led the Owls back from a 14–0 deficit to a 41–27 win at the Cotton Bowl. The next week saw Rote lead a comeback against Texas, turning a 9–0 halftime deficit into a 17–15 win at Austin. With a flawless conference record, the Owls were outright Southwest Conference champions for the third time.

Bill Belichick
William Stephen Belichick (/ˈbɛlᵻtʃɪk/; born April 16, 1952) is an American football coach and the long-time head coach of the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He also has extensive authority over the Patriots' football operations, effectively making him the team's general manager as well. Belichick was previously the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
Belichick's father, Steve, was a longtime college football scout and coach who worked for 34 years at the U.S. Naval Academy. Bill often studied football with his father and has cited him as one of his greatest mentors. Belichick went on to play football and lacrosse in high school and football, lacrosse and squash at Wesleyan University; he was captain of the lacrosse team his senior year.
Belichick began his coaching career in 1975; by 1985 he was the defensive coordinator for New York Giants head coach Bill Parcells. Parcells and Belichick won two Super Bowls together (XXI and XXV) before Belichick left to become the head coach in Cleveland in 1991. He remained in Cleveland for five seasons and was fired following the team's 1995 season. Belichick then rejoined Parcells, first in New England and later with the New York Jets.

The 1957 National Football League championship game was the 25th annual championship game. The NFL title game was held on December 29, 1957 at Briggs Stadium, in Detroit, Michigan. The game was the fourth pairing of the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns in the championship game. The Lions, who beat the Browns in 3 of those 4 title games, have not appeared in or won an NFL championship game (including the Super Bowl) since; the closest they have come to date was a berth in the 1992 NFC Championship Game, which they lost to the Washington Redskins. The Browns had won the Eastern Conference with a record of 9–2–1 while the Lions had to play a playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers in the previous week. Game summary: While the Lions were without injured starting quarterback Bobby Layne, backup QB Tobin Rote filled in admirably, throwing four touchdown passes, completing 12 of 19 passes for 280 yards, and running in for another touchdown. O'Connell and Plum, on the other hand hit on a combined total of 9 of 22 passes for 112 yards. Taking full advantage of a pass interception and a fumble, Detroit ran up a 17-0 lead in the first quarter. Jim Brown gave the Cleveland rooters some hope with a 30-yard touchdown swing at the start of the second period. In the end only the Best of the Best end up in their sport’s Hall of Fame. In this program we look at a particular athlete whose Hall of Fame selection committee have for one reason or another neglected to select, and begs us to slap our collective foreheads and exclaim… HELLO!? HALL OF FAME!! For the mostpart each Hall of Fame admittance is dictated by the media, and my hope is that these videos will help sway these voters to make a choice, the right choice. Hopefully they will help put these men and women where they rightfully belong, among the greatest to ever play the game. The game was the fourth pairing of the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns in the championship game. The Lions, who beat the Browns in 3 of those 4 title games, have not appeared in or won an NFL championship game (including the Super Bowl) since; the closest they have come to date was a berth in the 1992 NFC Championship Game, which they lost to the Washington Redskins.
The Browns had won the Eastern Conference with a record of 9–2–1 while the Lions had to play a playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers in the previous week.

While the Lions were without injured starting quarterback Bobby Layne, backup QB Tobin Rote filled in admirably, throwing four touchdown passes, completing 12 of 19 passes for 280 yards, and running in for another touchdown. O'Connell and Plum, on the other hand hit on a combined total of 9 of 22 passes for 112 yards. Taking full advantage of a pass interception and a fumble, Detroit ran up a 17-0 lead in the first quarter. The Lions franchise originated in Portsmouth, Ohio as the Spartans, which played as an independent before joining the NFL in 1930. In that early Era the quarterback position was not defined as it is today. The leader in passing yards in used until 1947, when the teams first true quarterback , Clyde LeForce, was added to the Roster. The acquired Football card image has his name misspelled as La Force. Bobby Layne lead the to Lions to NFL Championships in 1952, 1953, & 1957. After being injured in 1958 the Lions traded him to Pittsburgh, mid season. Since then the Lions have fell to the Curse of Bobby Layne for 50 years. The NFL instituted the draft in 1936. Six quarterbacks were drafted but never played for the Lions; Otto Graham, Y.A. Tittle, Ed Mioduszewski, Paul Held, Jack Kemp, & Pete Beathard.
