Vote Democracy Alliance in the PCS elections
Under the leadership of the Democracy Alliance -- an alliance between Left Unity and the PCS Democrats - PCS's strength and reputation as a fighting, campaigning, democratic union has been strengthened. The Democracy Alliance led NEC has campaigned tirelessly against the |Government's austerity programme which is a sustained attack on jobs, pay, terms and conditions, along with increased workloads and privatisation. Working together with reps and members the Democracy Alliance NEC has achieved negotiated settlements which have protected members interests, including protecting many thousands from compulsory redundancy. Only a strong dedicated leadership with a proven track record is capable of defending members interests. Only a Democracy Alliance led NEC has a strategy capable of defending terms and conditions.- published: 17 Mar 2014

Canadians Pro-Democracy protest the bloodshed and illegitimate military coup in Egypt (6)
At Ottawa - Canada Canadians Pro-Democracy Alliance held a rally in Ottawa on Saturday, September 7th at 3:00 PM in front of Parliament Hill to protest the bloodshed and illegitimate military coup in Egypt. The continuous bloody massacre of protesters and journalists has led to the death of thousands, including a Canadian citizen, the unjustified imprisonment of Canadians, and the crackdown on international journalists. The Pro-Democracy Alliance requests the Prime Minister to uphold basic human rights and freedoms valued by Canadians, which are currently being breached by the military regime in this humanitarian crisis. The Alliance requests that Mr. Harper sever diplomatic ties by recalling the Canadian ambassador if journalists and media personnel continue to be targeted, and our fellow Canadians are not released from Egyptian prisons. The Alliance is calling on to hold the Egyptian military regime accountable for human rights violations and crimes against humanity. Background The massacre on August 14th is only the latest in a series of brutal assaults by the military-installed government. Both Egyptian and foreign mediators have insisted that several proposals for a peaceful resolution were initiated, only for these proposals to be met with rejection by the Egyptian military. Analysts have concluded that the military is determined to crush the opposition. President Mohamed Morsi is the first legitimate, and democratically elected leader in the history of Egypt. He was elected in June 2012 in the run-off round of presidential elections held eighteen months after a popular revolt ended a sixty year military dictatorship. On July 3, 2013, Egypt's Minister of Defense placed Morsi and a group of aides under military detention in an unspecified location. The coup leader also announced that he had suspended Egypt's constitution and named Adli Mansour, the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, as interim president with unlimited executive and legislative powers. Mr. Mansour had only come into his position three days earlier upon the retirement of his predecessor and had not yet been sworn in. Canada is one of the few major democracies that bluntly called Egypt's political convulsion last month for what it was: a military coup that deposed Mohammed Morsi, a duly elected president. As a country built on the foundations of freedom and democracy, Canada must also be one of the first to condemn the crimes committed by both the Mansour Regime and the Egyptian Military.- published: 09 Sep 2013
