The Safavid dynasty (/sɑːˈfɑːwiːd/ Persian: سلسلهٔ صفويان; Azerbaijani: Səfəvilər sülaləsi, صفويلر سولالهسى) was one of the most significant ruling dynasties of Persia (modern Iran) after the fall of the Sasanian Empire - following the Muslim conquest of Persia in the seventh century A.D., and "is often considered the beginning of modern Persian history". The Safavid shahs ruled over one of the so-called gunpowder empires, and they ruled one of the greatest Persian empires after the Muslim conquest of Persia and established the Twelver school of Shi'a Islam as the official religion of their empire, marking one of the most important turning points in Muslim history.
The Safavid dynasty had its origin in the Safaviyya Sufi order, which was established in the city of Ardabil in the Azerbaijan region. It was of mixed ancestry (Kurdish and Azerbaijani, which included intermarriages with Georgian,Circassian, and Pontic Greek dignitaries). From their base in Ardabil, the Safavids established control over parts of Greater Iran and reasserted the Iranian identity of the region, thus becoming the first native dynasty since the Sasanian Empire to establish a unified Iranian state.

*** Discussion on the the Safavid Dynasty, rulers of the Persian empire between the 16th and 18th centuries. In 1501 Shah Ismail, a boy of fifteen, declared himself ruler of Azerbaijan. Within a year he had expanded his territory to include most of Persia, and founded a ruling dynasty which was to last for more than two hundred years. They converted their subjects to Shi'a Islam, and so created the religious identity of modern Iran - although they were also often ruthless in their suppression of Sunni practices. They thrived on international trade, and their capital Isfahan, rebuilt by the visionary Shah Abbas, became one of the most magnificent cities in the world. Under Safavid rul...

Why you wanna live like this?
My favorite antagonist
Times are hard getting harder
It's a black day, yeah
Lie, lie, lie to me
While you making love to me
Nothing ever makes you happy
It's a black day, yeah oh yeah
Got a good, good life
Food in your stomach & a future wife
Yet you're so ungrateful
It's a black day, yeah
Got a mounting obsession
With your middle class depression
Put that gun to your head
And it'll be a black day, yeah
It's never gonna be
The way you want it to be
And they'll never say they're sorry
You fight the good fight
And in the end you know you're right
So it doesn't really matter if you win or lose tonight
