Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he is confident he retains the trust of owner Roman Abramovich.
The Premier League champions are three points above the relegation zone after losing seven of their opening 12 Premier League matches.
But Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo had told the Daily Telegraph that Abramovich supports Mourinho.
"Nobody gives a four-year contract to a manager if they don't trust the person," Mourinho said.
"Nobody gives new contracts to players, as we have in the last couple of months, if we don't trust the players.
"There is trust and there are reasons for that trust. The power is with the board and they have shown to me and the players that they trust us.
"It's time for us to give a positive answer. I think we are doing this but not in the results."
Chelsea host Norwich on Saturday seeking to end a run of three successive league defeats, but Emenalo - who is close to Abramovich - said in an interview published on Friday that Mourinho retained the club's support.
Emenalo said: "Right now, the statement from the owner and from the board comes from a belief that we are in a position to trust a group of players who have delivered in the last couple of seasons.
"We are in a position to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and therein lies our confidence that we can get out of the situation."
Mourinho added that he sees no need to carry out significant squad strengthening to January, adding that he expects striker Radamel Falcao to return from a muscle problem with the next two weeks and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to be fit some time next month, having been out since September with a knee injury.
The Chelsea manager said: "I am happy with my players. I trust the players. I don't need to clean the dressing room - I heard that was written somewhere - and I don't need to ask the club to spend money in January.
"We put ourselves in a great situation by being champions, we have to be again together to put it in the right place."

Rafael Benitez did not meet or speak to Roman Abramovich before agreeing to become his ninth Chelsea manager in nine years but has still predicted that it will be far "easier" than working under the dysfunctional ownership of Tom Hicks and George Gillett at Liverpool.
Abramovich has made Benítez his "interim" manager on a six-month contract worth around £3 million, with the Russian billionaire still hoping to recruit Pep Guardiola, the former Barcelona coach, on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
Benítez held talks with Michael Emenalo, the technical director, before accepting the Chelsea job but only held his first meeting with the club's owner over dinner in London on Thursday night.
Asked about how he would cope with the infamous internal politics of Chelsea, Benítez pointed to his time at Liverpool. "You have a different situation and it will be easier," he said. "If you have two bosses [Hicks and Gillett] who aren't talking to each other, it's difficult. You want a striker and one of them says, 'I don't know'. Here you have an owner, a technical director and good staff. This will be easier."
Abramovich is known to crave not just trophies but also an aesthetically pleasing style of football but Benítez stressed that no such pressures had been placed on him.
"When I spoke with Michael Emenalo, he didn't say you had to do this or that," he said. "He just said, 'listen, we trust you and you can do well with these players'. .

Pedro Rodriguez - The New Beginning | Welcome to Chelsea.
The Spain international, who was a target of Manchester United, is a product of the Catalan club's academy and has scored 99 goals in 326 appearances since his debut in 2008.
He made 50 appearances for the European champions last season and has won the Champions League three times, scoring a goal in the 2011 final against United, as well as five La Liga titles.
He also won the World Cup and European Championship with Spain in 2010 and 2012 respectively.
Pedro made three appearances for Barcelona this season and came off the bench to score the winner in the 5-4 Uefa Super Cup victory over fellow Spanish side Sevilla.
José Mourinho has been granted his wish of a grand statement signing, with Chelsea confirming on Thursday afternoon they had completed the capture of Pedro from Barcelona in a deal worth £21.1m.
Pedro: Barcelona’s lucky charm who has finally tired of life on the bench

Mourinho has spoken about why Chelsea have made a slow start to their defence of the Premier League title and claimed one of the reasons has been their inability to fire the starting XI with fresh blood.
Last summer, Mourinho oversaw the early signings of Diego Costa, Cesc Fàbregas and Thibaut Courtois and he watched his team make a flying start. This time, despite his wish to strike deals with similar haste, it has been more difficult, with only Asmir Begovic and Radamel Falcao arriving before the opening game. Both players are considered as back-ups.
Chelsea lost the Community Shield to Arsenal and have only one point from two league fixtures. Meanwhile they have seen their rivals make serious inroads on the summer transfer market.
Baba Rahman, though, joined them on Wednesday from Augsburg for £21.7m and Pedro represents a major lift. The 28-year-old Spain winger won a glut of silverware at Barcelona – including five La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues – and he is also a world and European champion with Spain.
Manchester United had been interested in him and the club’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, travelled to Barcelona earlier in the week for negotiations. The United manager, Louis van Gaal, however, was never 100% sold on Pedro and his dallying allowed Chelsea to close the deal with a decisive push.
Chelsea have long been interested in Pedro and Mourinho considered a move for him last January, only to look elsewhere because the player was cup-tied in the Champions League. He took Juan Cuadrado, instead, from Fiorentina for £23m, although the Colombian did not feature in the Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain a month later.
Cuadrado has been a disappointment at Chelsea and Pedro’s arrival has implications for him. Cuadrado is effectively for sale and the recriminations over who is to blame for his signing have begun, with the club’s technical director, Michael Emenalo, feeling the heat.
Chelsea appear to have benefited from United’s interest in Pedro, in that they could see Barcelona were willing to negotiate over his £21.1m buyout clause. Chelsea’s successful offer was of £19m, with the remainder due in add-ons, Barcelona have confirmed. United’s bid contained a higher proportion of add-ons.
Chelsea’s signing of Pedro has echoes of their £32m move for Willian from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013. The Brazil forward was on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur before Chelsea nipped in at the last minute. Willian stands to be switched inside from the right to accommodate Pedro.
Fàbregas, Pedro’s international and former Barcelona team-mate, also got in touch with him to sell the merits of Stamford Bridge and the Chelsea director, Marina Granovskaia, oversaw the successful offer on Tuesday. Pedro flew into London on Wednesday and has now completed all of his medical checks. He has signed a four-year contract.
Pedro said: “I am very excited to start my adventure at Chelsea and I am here to keep winning titles. Thanks to the club and the supporters for giving me the opportunity to put the blue shirt on.”

Roman Abramovich would face a major battle to convince Carlo Ancelotti to return to Chelsea, with the Italian expected to reject any part-time SOS call.

The Daily Telegraph reported on Monday that independent intermediaries are attempting to line up Pep Guardiola for Chelsea if owner Abramovich eventually decides he must sack manager Jose Mourinho.
But, with his Bayern Munich contract not due to expire until next summer, Guardiola is not available mid-season, leaving Abramovich with a huge question over who he would appoint as a caretaker if Mourinho cannot halt the club’s dramatic slump.
Abramovich is still hoping Mourinho can turn around Chelsea’s form after handing him a new contract in the summer, but results and disciplinary issues have put a big question mark over the position of the Portuguese.
Ancelotti and Guus Hiddink are two of the most experienced managers currently out of work and both men have managed Chelsea with success in the past.
Hiddink fulfilled the caretaker role in 2009, winning the FA Cup, and Dutch sources believe he would jump at the chance to take on another interim position if Abramovich turned to him again.
But Ancelotti would almost certainly not be interested in a temporary position and would have major reservations about accepting a permanent return to Chelsea.
With a host of European and Italian clubs likely to offer Ancelotti a job, there is no reason for the 56-year-old to return to management and Chelsea in a caretaker capacity.
The nature of his sacking from Chelsea in 2011, just a year after winning a Premier League and FA Cup double in his first season in charge at the club, still rankles with Ancelotti.
Other than Abramovich, most of the Chelsea board and hierarchy, including technical director Michael Emenalo, who were responsible for firing him are still in positions of power.
It could be that Ancelotti would be forced to consider a lucrative long-term contract offered by Chelsea, but that would require Abramovich to accept a major loss of face.
While a Chelsea return may not be high on his wish-list, Ancelotti would like to manage again in England and would relish the opportunity at a club such as Manchester United. Despite publically bemoaning their dominance in the Bundesliga, he would also be interested in replacing Guardiola at Bayern.
Manchester City have been heavily linked with Guardiola, but the Spaniard is attracted to the prospect of living in London if he could be persuaded to work for Abramovich after turning Chelsea down in 2013.

Radamel Falcao To Chelsea
In 2011, when Chelsea signed Fernando Torres on the deadline day of the winter transfer window, many fans were critical of signing a forward whose form was waning. Why sign Torres when two younger strikers, a Colombian international, setting the Portuguese League on fire as well as an Argentine international, Maradona’s son-in-law, were also apparently on the market? Later that year, the Colombian, a certain Radamel Falcao, moved to Atletico Madrid for €40M to replace the aforementioned Argentine, Sergio Aguero, who moved to newly flush with cash English side Manchester City.
Both Falcao and Aguero turned up to be huge successes at their particular clubs while Torres was still struggling to find his feet at his new club. Oh how much we Chelsea fans yearned for a striker of their calibre at our club in place of the misfiring Spaniard. Fast forward a few years and Chelsea now enjoy the services of Diego Costa, who is a serial goal-getter. Sergio Aguero is still at City and is the PL’s best striker. Radamel Falcao meanwhile, has fallen from grace after his knee ligament injury and has scored as many league goals this season as Chris Smalling for Manchester United this season.
But all the while, one thing hasn’t changed. Falcao to Chelsea is apparently still a thing and Falcao recently went public with his desire to play for Jose Mourinho’s champions.
Well, all that’s fair, but you have to consider whether Falcao is good enough to warrant the wages that he will receive even after a pay cut. Assuming he takes a paycut of £100,000 and settles for wages of £165,000 per week, he would still cost Chelsea close to £8.6M in wages alone. Is that worth considering that he will play second or maybe even third fiddle with Costa and Remy already in place for next season. I would rather recall Patrick Bamford or promote Dom Solanke.
But then, if we assume that Chelsea would be willing to pay up for Falcao, should they? The simple, blunt answer is no. He just isn’t his previous self as his goals and Squawka Attack score tallies have been on a steep decline since his exploits for Atletico. Chelsea have tried signing one expensive striker on the decline, so you’d think that surely they would have learned from how poorly that turned out?
According to Di Marzio, Chelsea too have been showing some interest in the Colombian. Di Marzio is a trusted journalist and his sources aren’t often off the mark. Here’s what his website had on the developments of the transfer story
Well, if Michael Emenalo feels that Radamel Falcao, not the one who tormented Chelsea’s back line in the Super Cup match, but the one who is coming off a remarkably woeful season at Manchester United, would be a viable addition, who are we to argue? All I can say is I just don’t like the sound of Falcao moving to Chelsea.
