Google co-founders Sergey Brin, left, and Larry Page are seen at company headquarters Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, in Mountain View, Calif. The online search engine unveiled a significant index of its Web index Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, as it gears up for tougher competition from Yahoo and Microsoft. Google's index now covers 4.3 billion Web pages, up from 3.3 billion and the company says it is drilling much deeper into Web sites to provide much greater breadth. Google also acknowledged it has made significant changes to its closely guarded formula for sorting through its results during the past two ranks, a shift that has dismayed some Webmasters.
