Located in southern Utah and stretching from US-89 south of Panguitch in the west, past Bryce Canyon NP, Tropic, Cannonville, Henrieville and Escalante and then Head of the Rocks, the Hogs Back, Boulder and on up to Torrey where it ends at the junction with UT-24, highway 12 is one of the great roads and one you must drive if you find yourself in the area. This road, also known as "A Journey Through Time Scenic Byway", is best visited during spring or fall though it is usually passable all year round. The north east end between Boulder and Torrey, which climbs a mountain ridge above 9000 feet, can be snowed in during the winter. During the summer the temps can reach beyond 110F or 43C at the lower elevations.
This video only covers a small portion of the route and begins just as we're approaching the Hogs Back from the north. We travel the Hogs Back and descend through the Calf Creek Area and across the Escalante River, and on to the magnificent "Head of the Rocks" area. This trip ends about 10 miles east of Escalante.
This was an early attempt by me to record video from the top of my car to avoid glare and reflections when recording from the inside and I used a GoPro Hero 3 Black. This is not a bad camera, but it is limited to HD only, has a lens that is too wide and the AWB gets confused on occasion. I have since upgraded my kit to include 4K video camera and plan to revisit the area in the coming year.
The area around Escalante is a great base of operations for anyone wishing to explore the slot canyons and other sights between Bryce Canyon NP and Capitol Reef NP. The area itself is designated as the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. A huge portion of southern Utah is now managed by the park service as either a national park, national monument, or national recreation area. And, at the end of 2016, the area managed by the park service was massively increased with the inclusion of the Bears Ears National Monument at nearly 10M acres or nearly 15 thousand square miles.
This part of the American west is a very popular destination for visitors from around the world. I've personally met many people Germany and France and a smattering from many other places. The desert west is particularly popular with Germans and many of the best videos and pictures take of the area are from our German visitors. As a transplanted Utahan I welcome you all -- come, enjoy and leave a little of you money with the small local businesses that survive on YOUR business.

If you have to ride some pavement, this is it, Hwy 12. This is one of America's Scenic Byways, I consider it in my top ten for scenery, great MC road. Since this is road riding I sped it up. Shot with a GoPro H3B camera, edited and stabilized with Sony Vegas Pro 10.

2014 tour of the Grand Circle of American Southwest. Episode 10 continues the journey along Utah State Route 12 / Utah Highway 12, a.k.a. Scenic Byway 12, one of the most scenic highway in America. It begins at Head of the Rocks Overlook, goes through Boynton Overlook and The Hogback, and ends at the town of Boulder. This is personally my favorite part of the highway.

At 3h pm today a multi vehicle accident on Highway 132 in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada, left debris scattered on the road and at least one person with minor injuries. The collision happened in the eastbound lanes in the area of Lalande Street near Jean-Paul Vincent Blvd. One female made her way into an ambulance to be assessed and a traffic jam built up behind the location of the crash.

Ride along as we take a scenic drive through the Cascade Mountains on US Highway 12 in Washington state, crossing White Pass and stopping to take in the view of Mount Rainier.
I filmed this segment in October 2016, and was surprised there was no snow even at the highest elevations.

A Journey
A Journey is a memoir by Tony Blair of his tenure as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Published in the UK on 1 September 2010, it covers events from when he became leader of the Labour Party in 1994 and transformed it into "New Labour", holding power for a party record three successive terms, to his resignation and replacement as Prime Minister by his Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown. Blair donated his £4.6 million advance, and all subsequent royalties, to the British Armed Forces charity The Royal British Legion. It became the fastest-selling autobiography of all time at the bookstore chain Waterstones. Promotional events were marked by antiwar protests.
Two of the book's major topics are the strains in Blair's relationship with Brown after Blair allegedly reneged on the pair's 1994 agreement to step down as Prime Minister much earlier, and his controversial decision to participate in the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Blair discusses Labour's future after the 2010 general election, his relations with the Royal Family, and how he came to respect President George W. Bush. Reviews were mixed; some criticised Blair's writing style, but others called it candid.

Located in southern Utah and stretching from US-89 south of Panguitch in the west, past Bryce Canyon NP, Tropic, Cannonville, Henrieville and Escalante and then Head of the Rocks, the Hogs Back, Boulder and on up to Torrey where it ends at the junction with UT-24, highway 12 is one of the great roads and one you must drive if you find yourself in the area. This road, also known as "A Journey Through Time Scenic Byway", is best visited during spring or fall though it is usually passable all year round. The north east end between Boulder and Torrey, which climbs a mountain ridge above 9000 feet, can be snowed in during the winter. During the summer the temps can reach beyond 110F or 43C at the lower elevations.
This video only covers a small portion of the route and begins just as we're approaching the Hogs Back from the north. We travel the Hogs Back and descend through the Calf Creek Area and across the Escalante River, and on to the magnificent "Head of the Rocks" area. This trip ends about 10 miles east of Escalante.
This was an early attempt by me to record video from the top of my car to avoid glare and reflections when recording from the inside and I used a GoPro Hero 3 Black. This is not a bad camera, but it is limited to HD only, has a lens that is too wide and the AWB gets confused on occasion. I have since upgraded my kit to include 4K video camera and plan to revisit the area in the coming year.
The area around Escalante is a great base of operations for anyone wishing to explore the slot canyons and other sights between Bryce Canyon NP and Capitol Reef NP. The area itself is designated as the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. A huge portion of southern Utah is now managed by the park service as either a national park, national monument, or national recreation area. And, at the end of 2016, the area managed by the park service was massively increased with the inclusion of the Bears Ears National Monument at nearly 10M acres or nearly 15 thousand square miles.
This part of the American west is a very popular destination for visitors from around the world. I've personally met many people Germany and France and a smattering from many other places. The desert west is particularly popular with Germans and many of the best videos and pictures take of the area are from our German visitors. As a transplanted Utahan I welcome you all -- come, enjoy and leave a little of you money with the small local businesses that survive on YOUR business.

Located in southern Utah and stretching from US-89 south of Panguitch in the west, past Bryce Canyon NP, Tropic, Cannonville, Henrieville and Escalante and then Head of the Rocks, the Hogs Back, Boulder and on up to Torrey where it ends at the junction with UT-24, highway 12 is one of the great roads and one you must drive if you find yourself in the area. This road, also known as "A Journey Through Time Scenic Byway", is best visited during spring or fall though it is usually passable all year round. The north east end between Boulder and Torrey, which climbs a mountain ridge above 9000 feet, can be snowed in during the winter. During the summer the temps can reach beyond 110F or 43C at the lower elevations.
This video only covers a small portion of the route and begins just as we're approaching the Hogs Back from the north. We travel the Hogs Back and descend through the Calf Creek Area and across the Escalante River, and on to the magnificent "Head of the Rocks" area. This trip ends about 10 miles east of Escalante.
This was an early attempt by me to record video from the top of my car to avoid glare and reflections when recording from the inside and I used a GoPro Hero 3 Black. This is not a bad camera, but it is limited to HD only, has a lens that is too wide and the AWB gets confused on occasion. I have since upgraded my kit to include 4K video camera and plan to revisit the area in the coming year.
The area around Escalante is a great base of operations for anyone wishing to explore the slot canyons and other sights between Bryce Canyon NP and Capitol Reef NP. The area itself is designated as the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. A huge portion of southern Utah is now managed by the park service as either a national park, national monument, or national recreation area. And, at the end of 2016, the area managed by the park service was massively increased with the inclusion of the Bears Ears National Monument at nearly 10M acres or nearly 15 thousand square miles.
This part of the American west is a very popular destination for visitors from around the world. I've personally met many people Germany and France and a smattering from many other places. The desert west is particularly popular with Germans and many of the best videos and pictures take of the area are from our German visitors. At 3h pm today a multi vehicle accident on Highway 132 in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada, left debris scattered on the road and at least one person with minor injuries. The collision happened in the eastbound lanes in the area of Lalande Street near Jean-Paul Vincent Blvd. One female made her way into an ambulance to be assessed and a traffic jam built up behind the location of the crash.

Drive: Packwood to White Pass; Washington down Highway 12 up snowy mountains
I was surprised to find the road closed from falling rocks. The road was shut down for 8 hours. A road worker showed me a picture on his phone of a truck that got smashed by one of the large rocks. The trucks was not recognizable. As the workers assessed the rocks, they had to jump out of the way of more falling rocks. They decided to put a crash wall to catch more rocks so the road can be opened back up. When I looked at Google Maps, I didn't see any information the road was closed. It had been 4 hours before I got there. No one alerted other drivers to the problem. It came as a surprise. The most surprised person was the truck that got hit.

This drive begins at the southwest end of Utah 12, and travels all the way to the northeast end at Torrey, Utah. It's a rather long drive, but it's one of the most scenic highways in America, and I think you'll enjoy it. I've included some captions at the bottom of the screen in a different video -- look for it on my YouTube channel. This version is clean, so you can enjoy all the scenery without distraction.

I was surprised to find the road closed from falling rocks. The road was shut down for 8 hours. A road worker showed me a picture on his phone of a truck that got smashed by one of the large rocks. The trucks was not recognizable.
As the workers assessed the rocks, they had to jump out of the way of more falling rocks. They decided to put a crash wall to catch more rocks so the road can be opened back up.
When I looked at Google Maps, I didn't see any information the road was closed. It had been 4 hours before I got there. No one alerted other drivers to the problem. It came as a surprise. The most surprised person was the truck that got hit.
