Show Don't Tell: Why Your Nonprofit Needs a Visual Strategy
At a time when people are bombarded with more information than ever, charities need new ways to capture attention―especially online―and to explain complex issues succinctly, spur advocacy, and raise money. Watch the recording of a live discussion below about how a nonprofit can stay current and establish a unique identity without spending a fortune. The Guests: James Likeness is graphic designer for the nonprofit To Write Love on Her Arms, where he works on everything from print and Web assets to merchandise design. Robert Villaflor is design director at the Human Rights Campaign. He oversees the group's branding and design work. He has served as an adjunct faculty member in graphic design at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. Matthew Scharpnick is the co-founder and chief strategy officer at Elefint Designs, a design and marketing company. He writes The Chronicle's Redesigning Good blog, which examines how nonprofits can use design to advance their missions.- published: 14 Jan 2014

How to Inspire Donors to Make Planned Gifts
How to Inspire Donors to Make Planned Gifts
Nonprofits that want to inspire more of their supporters to make planned gifts should begin talking to them about estate planning when those donors are in their 40s, according to a new study. The study, which was based on a survey of American Jews with household incomes of at least $100,000, also found that donors who make planned gifts are often motivated by a desire to meet community needs and help worthwhile causes. The Guests: Shawn Landres is co-author of a new study on Jewish planned giving, the latest in a series of reports detailing the giving habits and motivations of American Jews. He is co-founder and chief executive of Jumpstart, a nonprofit that conducts research on Jewish philanthropy. Marjory Kaplan is president of the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego. Lisa Farber Miller is a senior program officer at the Rose Community Foundation. She specializes in endowments and bequest giving. Arlene Schiff is national director of the life and legacy program at the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. Previously, she was executive director of the Jewish Federation of the Berkshires where she began an effort to attract bequests that secured more than 60 commitments.- published: 15 Oct 2013

How to Use Pop Culture to Spread Ideas and Motivate Supporters
How to Use Pop Culture to Spread Ideas and Motivate Supporters
To gain visibility and connect with new supporters, some nonprofits are piggybacking on popular cultural content made by others that's easily shared on the Internet. For example, one popular meme portrays movie stills of Ryan Gosling with captions starting "Hey, girl," showing his sensitive side. The National Wildlife Foundation picked up on that theme to create its own meme showing baby goslings with the caption, "Hey, girl. These goslings are cuter than Ryan." Memes can be silly and fun, and some nonprofits use them to show their personality, create strong shared connections through social networks, and start conversations about their cause with a broader audience. To learn more about the best nonprofit memes and how they work—and examples of some that didn't work—watch this recording of the live online video discussion.- published: 12 Dec 2013

Toys for Tots sponsored by Exotic4Play & Martino Auto Concepts - Sunday November 20th
Martino Auto Concepts & Exotic4Play proudly support our friends at D2 Forged with the Toys for Tots Charity Car show November 20, 2011.
The US Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation enjoys one of the very best programs to support ratios within the nonprofit world; 98:2. Out of nearly two million nonprofit organizations in the United States, the Foundation was ranked #72 in the 2010 Philanthropy 400 published by the Chronicle of Philanthropy.
With an early start to the day, several meeting points were arranged by Martino Auto Concepts to include over 40 hardcore automotive enthusiasts to join D2 in Plainview where an already filled parking lot greeted us with a breakfast, ceremonies & truck loads of toys. The day continued with spirited run to Jones Beach and the final destination at 2D BN, 25th Marines in Garden City. We had absolutely amazing weather and an incredible turnout. It was a perfect day all around and we are proud to say we really will make a difference this holiday season to many less fortunate children.

Why We Dance: The Story of THON
Why We Dance: The Story of THON is a documentary project that chronicles the student-run philanthropy, THON, and the children, families, and students who are changed by their experience.
To many people, THON is a weekend-long event with 46 straight hours of dancing. What they may not see is an entire year spent raising awareness and money to conquer childhood cancer. Why We Dance: The Story of THON will introduce you to the inspirational children battling cancer and the Penn State students who participate in THON, dedicating themselves to making a difference for others.
DVDs of this documentary are available for purchase through our website here: http://wpsu.org/thondocumentary. A portion of the sales goes to the Four Diamonds Fund.
