RUMI POET OF THE HEART
"RUMI: Poet of the Heart," an award-winning 60 minute film produced and directed by Haydn Reiss, featuring Coleman Barks, Robert Bly, Deepak Chopra, storyteller and mythologist Michael Meade, and religious historian Huston Smith. Narrated by Debra Winger. Performances by oud virtuoso Hamza El Din and musician Jai Uttal offer inspiring accompaniment to this beautifully produced film. A lively and provocative exploration of the genius and timeliness of Rumi's emergence in the west.
In 2008 the surprising bestselling poet in America is a thirteenth-century Sufi poet and mystic named Jelaluddin Rumi. For over seven hundred years, Rumi's writings have enchanted, inspired, and enlightened Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindus, and Buddhists. Rumi's poetry celebrates the sacred in everyday existence and transcends boundaries of time, place, and religion to speak to all people.

Rumi: Say I Am You (Sufi poem)
Rumi's poems elegantly and consistently touch our inner being and inspire us to go beyond our limitations towards the Divine.
The music: The credits do appear at the end of this video, but it is by the composer, Eleni Karaindrou, and is the theme music called "Eternity and a Day" from the movie, Aggelopoulos.
A note on the music: This entire video was constructed in silence-only the poem and the images were put together without my knowing what music would be the right one. The music is so important to the interpretation of these poems. Rather than reading them, the music is my voice. When I 'laid' this beautiful piece of music over the video it fit perfectly. Few edits were made to accomodate the images to fit the music. They seem to be made for each other.
Note for those who overlook the message and want to 'claim' Rumi as their own (country, nationality, language) they've missed the point completely and these comments will be deleted.

The Guest House
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
~ Rumi ~

Rumi: This is love
Rumi's poem
This is love: to fly toward a secret sky,
to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment.
First, to let go of live.
In the end, to take a step without feet;
to regard this world as invisible,
and to disregard what appears to be the self.
Heart, I said, what a gift it has been
to enter this circle of lovers,
to see beyond seeing itself,
to reach and feel within the breast.

...............Rumi
English translation:
Poem of the atoms (Rumi)
O day, arise!
The atoms are dancing.
Thanks to Him the universe is dancing.
The souls are dancing, overcome with ecstasy.
I'll whisper in your ear where their dance is taking them.
All the atoms in the air and in the desert know well,
they seem insane.
Every single atom, happy or miserable,
becomes enamored of the sun.
Of which nothing can be said.

Rumi - A Voice of the Heart - Part 2 - Duncan Mackintosh
Rumi said he wasn't interested in poetry
Even someone who hasn't lost a camel, who doesn't even own a camel gets in on the excitement
"Yes I've lost my camel too"
"A big reward for whoever finds it"
He says this to be part owner of your camel when you find it.
If you say to someone's helpful suggestion, "No I don't think so"
The imitator says the same thing immediately: "No I don't think so either"
When good information comes - you know it right away
it is medicine to you - it brings colour to your face
strength to your body, your eyes brighten, your feet get lively and agile
You say thank you my friend - this truth you give me is like freedom to me
Please go in front and you be the leader
You have the scent of my camel better than I do
But the imitator does not feel the intensity of these clues.
