RHEL7 SELinux controlling admin access
More videos like this online at http://www.theurbanpenguin.com SELinux has been part of Red Hat Enterprise Linux since version 4 and we are now in the beta release of version 7; it is fair to say that it is here to stay. Developed and maintained by the NSA (US National Security Agency) this is a crucial tool for administrators in ensuring security is maintained effectively of their devices. It is a big subject area and there is a lot to take on board and all too often the easy choice is to disable SELinux or set it to Permissive mode where security breaches will be logged but not prevented. In this tutorial we look at migrating from unconfined users to users that are managed by SELinux policies and show how this can be used to ensure delegated administrators use sudo rather than su to complete tasks.- published: 12 Jan 2014

LPIC-3 303 SELinux contexts explained
More videos like this online at http://www.theurbanpenguin.com In this vdeo we look at explaining the conecepts and makeup of a SELinux context. SELinux will try to match the context of the process to the context of the resource being accessed; the SELinux policy in effect will specify what access is allowed to the resource from a given context. A SELinux context consists of 4 fields, not the user is a SELinux user as opposed to a standard Linux user- published: 01 Feb 2014

"SELinux for Mere Mortals" by Thomas Cameron - Flock 2013
While Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) is an incredibly powerful tool for securing Linux servers, it has a reputation for being difficult to configure. As a result, many system administrators simply turn it off. Fortunately, the incredible amount of work completed by the SELinux community in recent years has made SELinux system administrator-friendly. In this session, attendees will: - Learn the basics of SELinux - Review the SELinux architecture - Discover how to configure, analyze, and correct SELinux errors - See how to generate basic policy modules to enable non-SELinux-aware applications to work on SELinux-protected systems - See real-world examples of how to use this tool Slides: http://flocktofedora.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/flock-2013-cameron_thursday_1040_selinux_for_mere_mortals.pdf Transcript: http://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-flock-ectr112/2013-08-10/fedora-flock-ectr112.2013-08-10-13.58.log.html (by Eugene Mah) Schedule Link: http://sched.co/19ugIP8- published: 10 Aug 2013

LPIC-3 303 Enabling, disabling and troubleshooting SELinux
More videos like this online at http://www.theurbanpenguin.com I see so many times that suggestions are found to disable SELinux to get services to work. Sure this will work but then this is akin to Windows granting full control to EveryOne. If there is a security model applied we should at least consider its use and not disable it as the first option. Firstly we will look at ways to change from permissive to enforcing modes through the control file /selinux/enforce, boot options to the kernel as will as setenforce. We can also set the boolean value secure_mode_policyload to stopt changes to the mode one booted. Wiht this in place we look at debugging simple SELinux issues with ausearch and audit2why- published: 01 Feb 2014
