Laozi lived around 250 BC. Tao Te Ching translates to meaning Classic Ways and Virtues. It was written to bring people closer to nature. Why read Tao Te Ching For many people they may see the Tao Te Ching as a very old and outdated piece of work that serves very little purpose for living today. I would argue that point since the only thing really different is the amount of technology that we live with, and to me this makes it an even stronger point as to why to read the book. We are losing our touch with nature, the very reason all things exist in the first place. Since people spend more time either working on computers for work or pleasure, concerned with too many things that really serve no real purpose other than to create more value to the ego, it is truly time to appreciate simplicity. In this age, it seems simple is a bad word, everybody wants more and more, but as Laozi would say, once your cup is full, quit pouring. Even in the days of the great Laozi, people weren't much different. It is human nature for people to want to keep taking. To me it makes sense to step back and take a closer look at yourself, and see how you fit into this world, and are you fair to others. Lessons from the Tao Te Ching There is a lot of lessons to learn about harmony from Tao Te Ching, and each lesson gives you a lot to think about. Although this book was translated from Chinese to English (and probably many other languages) my copy is pretty well done.
