DIEZ COSAS QUE HACEN LOS SNOBS
Introducción
Como muchos sabrán, el término snob proviene de una contracción de la expresión "sine nobilitate", es decir, sin nobleza. Se trata de personas no pertenecientes a la más alta élite, pero que pretenden serlo y viven como si lo fueran. Se dice que en Inglaterra, durante el siglo XIX, al lado del nombre de aquellos que eran simples burgueses aparecía la calificación "sin nobleza" abreviada como "s. nob.", para definirlas como personas con falta de estatus. Y hoy se utiliza para nombrar a quienes buscan exageradamente la posición de élite. Como ha escrito William Makepeace Thackeray, "snob es aquel que admira mezquinamente cosas mezquinas". Aquí se analizan 10 cosas que este tipo de personas suelen hacer.
Intereses superfluos
Estas personas tienen pretensiones sociales y gustos "excéntricos". Están atentas a la moda y al lujo de los estilos de vida más refinados, ya sea en viajes, atracciones artísticas, vestimenta, electrónica, vehículos de último modelo, comidas y bebidas, e incluso, maneras de pensar. Cuentan con los recursos económicos para llevar esa vida. Adquieren lo último en tecnología y compran productos de las marcas más caras. Y no solo están atentas a lo propio, sino que también se fijan en lo ajeno para emitir juicios de valor sobre la gente que los rodea.
Vida refinada
Realizan actividades culturales sofisticadas: van a comer a restaurantes muy caros, donde piden "el vino más caro de la casa". Al pagar la cuenta, lo hacen en efectivo sin importar que sean grandes sumas de dinero, apilando un billete sobre otro. Y tienen algunas actitudes ridículas y poco naturales como, por ejemplo, esforzarse por comer con palillos chinos aunque no les salga naturalmente, o consumir productos claramente no propios de su cultura y poco conocidos socialmente, por el sólo haber escuchado sobre ellos.
Conversaciones que exhiban estatus
En sus conversaciones sociales, el snob demuestra un acopio de conocimiento que absorbió escuchando a aquellos de los que es fanático. Por eso a estas personas puede vérselas u oírlas emulando lenguajes, expresiones, modismos, gestos y hasta opiniones de las clases socioeconómicas más altas. Necesitan ser escuchados, ya que suelen ser inseguros y quieren ser aceptados, pero no aceptan a los demás, por el contrario, atacan a los que piensan diferente. En general, sus conversaciones tienen un único objetivo: manifestar sus gustos y las costumbres de su vida refinada.
Son elitistas
Tratan con desprecio a quienes no califican como pares y consideran inferiores. Suelen mirar mal a quien no esté a su mismo nivel social. En las conversaciones, un snob va a dar gran interés a quienes demuestren buen estatus social y le interesará poco el que carezca de tal. A la vez, el snob es adulador de aquellos a quienes considera superiores. Tienen una admiración injustificada por lo que rodea la buena vida y las ocupaciones laborales prestigiosas. Sienten la necesidad de demostrar por todos los medios que cuentan con las posibilidades económicas para llevar una vida de gustos costosos.
relaciones
Muchas veces el snob puede presentar problemas en sus relaciones amistosas, ya que por sus intereses necesita acercarse a las personas adecuadas en los momentos indicados para obtener el prestigio que busca. Por eso, a veces un amigo cercano no es quien puede brindarle las oportunidades sociales necesarias, y por el contrario, necesita acercarse a quienes puedan acercarle las circunstancias correctas que le otorguen los beneficios buscados para su reputación. Además, puede manifestarse aburrido o con conductas desagradables frente a su ámbito social al ver que no le otorga dichos beneficios para su prestigio, provocando un alejamiento propio o del resto.
Vehículos sofisticados
Demás está decir que un snob jamás viajará en transporte público. Pero además de contar con automóviles caros, los snobs suelen tener otros vehículos extraordinarios como motos de último modelo, barcos, yates u otros transportes acuáticos, toda clase de aparatos de esparcimiento que acarrean en sus vacaciones o durante el fin de semana, como motos de agua y cuatriciclos, entre otros. En los casos más extremos, cuentan con aviones privados o helicópteros, o en el caso de no poseerlos, gastan mucho dinero en vuelos privados que utilizan para cuestiones efímeras como ir y volver en el día de una ciudad a otra.

Snob
A snob is a human who believes there is a correlation between social status and human worth. The term also refers to a person who believes that some people are inherently inferior to him or her for any one of a variety of reasons, including real or supposed intellect, wealth, education, ancestry, power, physical strength, class, taste, beauty, nationality, fame, extreme success of a family member or friend, etc. Both definitions are used as a pejorative.
Etymology
The word "snobbery" came into use the first time in England during the 1820s. It allegedly originated from the habit of many Oxford and Cambridge colleges of writing sine nobilitate (Latin: "without nobility") or s. nob. next to the names of ordinary students on examination lists in order to distinguish them from their aristocratic schoolmates. The French version of the Latin phrase though is much more accepted: sans noblesse, essentially the same but derived from the Plantagenets' rule of England. Common – but typically wealthy – students would then acquire symbols of aristocratic status (driver, maid etc.), and were then mocked as "snobs" by the aristocrats. After the later changing of the meaning of the term "snob", people who emulate aristocrats are now called "snob victims."

Adam Ruins Everything
Adam Ruins Everything is a sketch comedy/educational television show starring Adam Conover that debuted on September 29, 2015 on truTV. On January 7, 2016, it was announced that the show had been picked up for a 14 additional episodes to air starting in August 2016. The series aims to shine light on popular false impressions and trends, debunking false ideas in society.
Synopsis
Adam Ruins Everything is based on a CollegeHumor web series of the same name, and stars comedian Adam Conover (who was also the star of the CollegeHumor series) as the host. In the show, Conover debunks misconceptions with what the show calls "annoying facts", backing up his points by lecturing the audience, appearing in skits, interviewing experts, and citing references on-screen. Adam has said on a Twitch.tv stream that DVDs could potentially be released.

Set in the picture postcard community on Sydney's northern beaches, SNOBS is the story of unlikely friends - Abby, the daughter of a wealthy, middle class traditional family and Marian, a boy from a group of modern day nomads who have been come to be known as Ferals - the arrival of whom upsets the peace of the community and is the catalyst for conflict, adventure and intrigue.

Intereses superfluos
Estas personas tienen pretensiones sociales y gustos "excéntricos". Están atentas a la moda y al lujo de los estilos de vida más refinados, ya sea en viajes, atracciones artísticas, vestimenta, electrónica, vehículos de último modelo, comidas y bebidas, e incluso, maneras de pensar. Cuentan con los recursos económicos para llevar esa vida. Adquieren lo último en tecnología y compran productos de las marcas más caras. Y no solo están atentas a lo propio, sino que también se fijan en lo ajeno para emitir juicios de valor sobre la gente que los rodea.
Vida refinada
Realizan actividades culturales sofisticadas: van a comer a restaurantes muy caros, donde piden "el vino más caro de la casa". Al pagar la cuenta, lo hacen en efectivo sin importar que sean grandes sumas de dinero, apilando un billete sobre otro. Y tienen algunas actitudes ridículas y poco naturales como, por ejemplo, esforzarse por comer con palillos chinos aunque no les salga naturalmente, o consumir productos claramente no propios de su cultura y poco conocidos socialmente, por el sólo haber escuchado sobre ellos.
Conversaciones que exhiban estatus
En sus conversaciones sociales, el snob demuestra un acopio de conocimiento que absorbió escuchando a aquellos de los que es fanático. Por eso a estas personas puede vérselas u oírlas emulando lenguajes, expresiones, modismos, gestos y hasta opiniones de las clases socioeconómicas más altas. Necesitan ser escuchados, ya que suelen ser inseguros y quieren ser aceptados, pero no aceptan a los demás, por el contrario, atacan a los que piensan diferente. Muchas veces el snob puede presentar problemas en sus relaciones amistosas, ya que por sus intereses necesita acercarse a las personas adecuadas en los momentos indicados para obtener el prestigio que busca. Por eso, a veces un amigo cercano no es quien puede brindarle las oportunidades sociales necesarias, y por el contrario, necesita acercarse a quienes puedan acercarle las circunstancias correctas que le otorguen los beneficios buscados para su reputación. Además, puede manifestarse aburrido o con conductas desagradables frente a su ámbito social al ver que no le otorga dichos beneficios para su prestigio, provocando un alejamiento propio o del resto.
Vehículos sofisticados
Demás está decir que un snob jamás viajará en transporte público. Pero además de contar con automóviles caros, los snobs suelen tener otros vehículos extraordinarios como motos de último modelo, barcos, yates u otros transportes acuáticos, toda clase de aparatos de esparcimiento que acarrean en sus vacaciones o durante el fin de semana, como motos de agua y cuatriciclos, entre otros. En los casos más extremos, cuentan con aviones privados o helicópteros, o en el caso de no poseerlos, gastan mucho dinero en vuelos privados que utilizan para cuestiones efímeras como ir y volver en el día de una ciudad a otra.

Introducción
Como muchos sabrán, el término snob proviene de una contracción de la expresión "sine nobilitate", es decir, sin nobleza. Se trata de personas no pertenecientes a la más alta élite, pero que pretenden serlo y viven como si lo fueran. Se dice que en Inglaterra, durante el siglo XIX, al lado del nombre de aquellos que eran simples burgueses aparecía la calificación "sin nobleza" abreviada como "s. nob.", para definirlas como personas con falta de estatus. Y hoy se utiliza para nombrar a quienes buscan exageradamente la posición de élite. Como ha escrito William Makepeace Thackeray, "snob es aquel que admira mezquinamente cosas mezquinas". Aquí se analizan 10 cosas que este tipo de personas suelen hacer.
Intereses superfluos
Estas personas tienen pretensiones sociales y gustos "excéntricos". Están atentas a la moda y al lujo de los estilos de vida más refinados, ya sea en viajes, atracciones artísticas, vestimenta, electrónica, vehículos de último modelo, comidas y bebidas, e incluso, maneras de pensar. Cuentan con los recursos económicos para llevar esa vida. Adquieren lo último en tecnología y compran productos de las marcas más caras. Y no solo están atentas a lo propio, sino que también se fijan en lo ajeno para emitir juicios de valor sobre la gente que los rodea.
Vida refinada
Realizan actividades culturales sofisticadas: van a comer a restaurantes muy caros, donde piden "el vino más caro de la casa". Al pagar la cuenta, lo hacen en efectivo sin importar que sean grandes sumas de dinero, apilando un billete sobre otro. Y tienen algunas actitudes ridículas y poco naturales como, por ejemplo, esforzarse por comer con palillos chinos aunque no les salga naturalmente, o consumir productos claramente no propios de su cultura y poco conocidos socialmente, por el sólo haber escuchado sobre ellos.
Conversaciones que exhiban estatus
En sus conversaciones sociales, el snob demuestra un acopio de conocimiento que absorbió escuchando a aquellos de los que es fanático. Por eso a estas personas puede vérselas u oírlas emulando lenguajes, expresiones, modismos, gestos y hasta opiniones de las clases socioeconómicas más altas. Necesitan ser escuchados, ya que suelen ser inseguros y quieren ser aceptados, pero no aceptan a los demás, por el contrario, atacan a los que piensan diferente. I do hope it’s a terrible winter this year. a total bastard where everyone’s snowed into their drives and those few who do manage to escape end up being slewed across the road or filmed in tragic tailbacks by drones for BBC news bulletins or stuck in ditches and having to tramp miles across icy fields trying to find a friendly farmer to pull them out. Nothing personal ... So, yes, I guess I did get it for snob reasons too ... ....
