Ostia Antica Mithraeum at the Baths of Mithras
The Baths of Mithras at Ostia Antica, Rome's ancient port, had a Mithraeum (Temple of Mithras) installed underground in its service area in the early third century AD. Like most Mithraea, the building was designed to recall the cave in which Mithras killed the sacred bull and released the force of Eternal Life. Like most Mithraea, the building was designed to recall the cave in which Mithras killed the sacred bull and released the force of Eternal Life. Similarities in belief and worship led early Christians to target the Mithraea and destroy them. Christians later adapted these Baths to their use and wrecked the Mithraeum, smashing the statue. The current one is a reproduction. More information at: http://www.ostia-antica.org/regio1/17/17-2a.htm
This building is part of the prescribed content for the UK-based OCR examination board's A-Level in Classical Civilisation (paper CC6). Two of the most interesting finds from the building are the imagines clipeatae (portrait busts on circular mounts). These curious objects are displayed very badly in Ostia's Museum but I have created a webpage at www.romanbritain.freeserve.co.uk/imagclip.htm which explains a lot more.

What is Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments?:
--------------------------
Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments is an investigation game in the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes series developed by Frogwares and published by Focus Home Interactive for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
The game takes place in London and its suburbs in the 19th century; it resonates with the Russian novel Crime and Punishment by author Fyodor Dostoyevsky focusing onto finding the right culprit and making the moral choice of absolving or condemning him.
The game is the first in the series to use the Unreal Engine 3, and was inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories. The game is split into seven cases such as murders, disappearances, thefts, etc. written in the tradition of Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels.
The majority of the game involves exploring crime scenes and examining clues. Once discovered, clues are added to a "deduction board", a gameplay mechanic which involves linking pieces of information together. It will lead to possible different deductions. Once deductions are connected together, player will have a full tree of deduction.
Depending on how player interprets the clues, they will have different conclusions. Therefore player can fail in the game, or succeed into finding the right criminal. He should also decide whether he wants to absolve or to conduct the criminal. The moral choice player makes will influence the further gameplay. Each case will have 3-5 possible solutions; in total there will be 6-10 different endings for each case.
In total, the game offers 14 investigation mechanics, including Sherlock Holmes' skill to guess many details about someone's life simply by glancing at them or to imagine and reconstruct the course of event by carefully observing all the key details of a crime scene.

Sutri (Latin Sutrium) occupied an important position, commanding as it did the road into Etruria, the later Via Cassia: Livy describes it as one of the keys of Etruria, Nepi being the other. It came into the hands of Rome after the fall of Veii, and a Latin colony was founded there; it was lost again in 386 BC, but was recovered and recolonized around 383. It was besieged by the Etruscans in 311‑310 BC, but not taken. With Nepi and ten other Latin colonies it refused further help in the Second Punic War in 209 BC. Its importance as a fortress explains, according to Festus, the proverb Sutrium ire, of one who goes on important business, as it occurs in Plautus. It is mentioned in. the war of 41 BC, and received a colony of veterans under the triumviri (Colonia coniuncta lulia Sutrina). Inscriptions show that it was a place of some importance under the empire, and it is mentioned as occupied by the Lombards.
Sutri retained its strategic importance as a fortified place near the borders of the Duchy of Rome. The Donation of Sutri was an agreement reached at Sutri between the Lombard king Liutprand the Lombard and Pope Gregory II in 728. At Sutri the two reached an agreement, by which Sutri and some hill towns in Latium (see Vetralla) were given to the Papacy, "as a gift to the blessed Apostles Peter and Paul" according to the Liber Pontificalis. The pact formed the first extension of Papal territory beyond the confines of the Duchy of Rome.
Sutri, the seat of a bishopric, was retrieved for the Papacy after the defeat of the Lombards.
Pope Gregory VI abdicated at Sutri on December 20, 1046, following the Synod of Sutri convened at the request of Emperor Henry III. In 1111 it was the seat of the treaty between Paschal II and Emperor Henry V; in 1146 and 1244 Eugene III and Innocent IV took refuge here, respectively. In 1244 it was conquered by Pietro di Vico, but was later took by Pandolfo, count of Anguillara, who gave it back to the Papal States.
The city saw the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines. In 1433 the condottiero Niccolò Fortebraccio set fire to the city, which, from that point onward declined in favour of Ronciglione.
Main sightsThere are some remains of the ancient city walls of rectangular blocks of tuff on the southern side of the town, and some rock-cut sewers in the cliffs below them.
The cathedral, of Romanesque origin, is largely modern: of the medieval edifice the belltower (1207) and the crypt, from the Lombard period, with seven naves divided by twenty columns of different origin.
In the cliffs opposite the town on the south is the rock-cut church of the Madonna del Parto, developed out of one of the numerous Etruscan tombs of the area (according to some scholars, it was a mithraeum).
The most striking edifice is the rock-hewn amphitheatre of the Roman period, one of the most suggestive monuments of the ancient Lazio. Of elliptical plan, it measures c. 49 x 40 meters.

Idea of this wine press is that its unique system of pressing the grapes is to make better wine. There is far less oxidation while pressing because juice is exiting on only one exit. Pressing is done only up to approx. 1,5 bar. This way of pressing maximizes the efficiency of pressing the grapes.
Whole process takes from 45 minutes to 1,5 h. Pressing is done several times, each time with higher pressure. Pressing is done in cycles.
Cycle. Grapes are pressed with 0,2 bar for 5 minutes. After that time, air is pumped out and you need to manually turn the drum for several times. After that next cycle is done with higher pressure (approx. +0,2 bar is added each time) and this is done until pressure reach around 1,6 bar.

The Fertorakos Mithraeum
An animated reconstruction of The Fertorakos Mithraeum in Hungary.
Was constructed by soldiers from the Carnuntum legion at the beginning of the 3rd century AD. Trapeziodal in shape, the southern and eastern sides of the shrine were hollowed out of the rock, with the northern and western sides being built in stone. Four steps lead down into the central aisle of the cella, as the pronaos and couch podiums were all on the same ground level. The Tauroctony was carved into the rock face. The original excavators attempted to restore the stone vault of the shrine, the first attempt at reconstruction at any archaeological site in Hungary, though this was later demolished and the present cover building erected in the 1990s. Excavations: 1866. 1990-1991. The original sculptures are at the Fabricius House Museum, in Sopron.

Luigi Manfredi da viaggi.corriere.it/diari-di-viaggio

Luigi Manfredi da viaggi.corriere.it/diari-di-viaggio
