Hierapolis was a prosperous city in the Roman province of Asia, situated above the junction of the rivers Lycus and Meander Rivers, 12 miles northwest of Colossae, 6 miles north of Laodicea and 100 miles east of Ephesus. Little is known of its early history. It may have originated as a Phrygian cult center, from which it took the name Hieropolis "city of the heiron" (sanctuary). The city itself is usually said to have been founded around 190 BC by king Eumenes II of Pergamum, with the official name of Hierapolis, possibly derived from Hiera, wife of King Telephos, the legendary founder of Pergamum.According to 6th century AD geographer Stephanus of Byzantium, it was called Hierapolis ("holy city") because of its large number of temples. Principally a luxury resort town, it was known for its textiles.
Built on a plateau rising 150 to 300 feet above the Lycus river valley, Hierapolis was surrounded by mineral-laden hot springs famed for their healing properties, which made it a popular resort and healing center. As water from the hot springs flowed down the steep hill below the ancient city it lost carbon dioxide, leaving behind stepped layers of white limestone, from which its modern name, Pamukkale (Turkish "cotton castle"), is derived.

Hierapolis was founded as a thermal spa early in the 2nd century BCE and given by the Romans to Eumenes II, king of Pergamon in 190 BC. The city was named after the existing temple, or possibly to honour Hiera, wife of Telephus -- son of Heracles by a Mysian princess Auge -- the mythical founder of the Attalid dynasty.
The city was expanded with proceeds from the booty from the Battle of Magnesia in 190 BCE, where Antiochus the Great was defeated by Eumenes II, who had sided with the Romans. Thus Hierapolis became part of the Pergamon kingdom.

Est Mihi Nonum or "Jar of nine year Alban wine", is the ancient song from X century written by Anonymous composer. Poem was founded in Horace's Ode to Phyllis manuscript and also found in Epos: Music of Carolingian Age. The Carolingian Empire marks an important moment in the history of poetry and music of medieval Western Europe, today kept in Paris.
In the poem, Horace or Quintus Horatius Flaccus (65 -- 8 BC), who was the leading Roman lyric poet during the time of emperor Augustus, is back with his last woman. He was telling her about all of the festivities in honor of his friend's birthday, Maecenas, who was an important patron of the arts. Meanwhile, her love, Telephus, has been gobbled up by some rich lady who has no intention of giving him up. Horace consoles Phyllis by telling her he is not her sort of people, so she can chase away the sadness and accept the destiny.

Excerpt: "We've booked for a week's holiday on Lord Howe Island with a group of 28 people from the National Parks Association, led by Joe Pike, who we last saw in 2000, when we met him in Broome and went to Camp Leveque with him. We also know Adrian and Julie, who led 10 days of walking in the Grampians in April 2009. We don't know any of the rest of the group. Joe has booked the accommodation at Ocean View Apartments, and has organized for most of the food for dinners to be bought in Port Macquarie, and shipped to Lord Howe on the fortnightly boat, called the "Island Trader". We'll all help with the preparation and cooking of the communal dinners. Saturday 13th February 2010 We get to the airport in good time for our 8.50am departure. Have a quick look at the departures board, and see the Qantas flight to Lord Howe Island has had its final call, and the gate is about to close. As we haven't rung to confirm the flight is on time, and hasn't been changed, just about have a heart attack and do a frantic dash to the check-in, where we run into Adrian and Julie, and others on the same trip, who don't seem to be too worried. Now that we have time to look properly, see that this is an earlier flight, which has been delayed, and our flight is on time. Check in - about a kg under the weight limit, which is only 14kg per person for luggage, and 4kg for cabin bag. We had to leave some things at home, because we were originally overweight according to our bathroom scales, because we're carrying some food supplies, plus all of our snorkeling gear Uneventful trip, surprisingly good lunch and drinks, but the hostess is impossible to understand on the PA system. We are on the wrong side to get good photos of the overall island on the way in, but manage to get some telephotos through the opposite window, plus some good shoreline shots from our side. The weather is hot and sunny, and the view from the airport toward the mountains is spectacular. We are greeted by Joe, and also " ...

Telephos Euergetes
Telephos Euergetes (Greek: Τήλεφος ὁ Εὐεργέτης; Euergetes means "the Benefactor") was a late Indo-Greek king who seem to have been one of the weak and brief successors of Maues. Bopearachchi dates Telephos between 75–70 BCE and places him in Gandhara, Senior to c. 60 BCE and suggests that he ruled in some parts of Pushkalavati or even further west.
Nothing is known about his dynastic connections. His few coins are rather singular and none of them bear his likeness, a rare occurrence in Indo-Greek coinage. Despite his Greek name, Telephos might therefore have been a ruler of Saka origin. His epithet was also unprecedented.
Coins of Telephos
The silver of Telephos is rare and mostly consists of drachms; only a few tetradrachms are known. On the Greek side is a serpent-footed monster holding the stems of two plants, and on the Kharoshthi side two deities that probably should be identified with Helios and Selene, the sun and moon. Both types were unique in the area, though the monster would later appear on bronzes of Hippostratos.

Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr. (born October 20, 1971), known professionally as Snoop Dogg, is an American rapper and actor from Long Beach, California. His music career began in 1992 when he was discovered by Dr. Dre of N.W.A and, as a result, was prominently featured throughout Dr. Dre's solo debut album, The Chronic (1992). Hierapolis was founded as a thermal spa early in the 2nd century BCE and given by the Romans to Eumenes II, king of Pergamon in 190 BC. The city was named after the existing temple, or possibly to honour Hiera, wife of Telephus -- son of Heracles by a Mysian princess Auge -- the mythical founder of the Attalid dynasty. The city was expanded with proceeds from the booty from the Battle of Magnesia in 190 BCE, where Antiochus the Great was defeated by Eumenes II, who had sided with the Romans. Thus Hierapolis became part of the Pergamon kingdom.

Joe has booked the accommodation at Ocean View Apartments, and has organized for most of the food for dinners to be bought in Port Macquarie, and shipped to Lord Howe on the fortnightly boat, called the "Island Trader". We'll all help with the preparation and cooking of the communal dinners. Saturday 13th February 2010 We get to the airport in good time for our 8.50am departure. Have a quick look at the departures board, and see the Qantas flight to Lord Howe Island has had its final call, and the gate is about to close. As we haven't rung to confirm the flight is on time, and hasn't been changed, just about have a heart attack and do a frantic dash to the check-in, where we run into Adrian and Julie, and others on the same trip, who don't seem to be too worried. Now that we have time to look properly, see that this is an earlier flight, which has been delayed, and our flight is on time. Check in - about a kg under the weight limit, which is only 14kg per person for luggage, and 4kg for cabin bag. We had to leave some things at home, because we were originally overweight according to our bathroom scales, because we're carrying some food supplies, plus all of our snorkeling gear Uneventful trip, surprisingly good lunch and drinks, but the hostess is impossible to understand on the PA system. We are on the wrong side to get good photos of the overall island on the way in, but manage to get some telephotos through the opposite window, plus some good shoreline shots from our side. The weather is hot and sunny, and the view from the airport toward the mountains is spectacular. We are greeted by Joe, and also " ...

Now that we have time to look properly, see that this is an earlier flight, which has been delayed, and our flight is on time. Check in - about a kg under the weight limit, which is only 14kg per person for luggage, and 4kg for cabin bag. We had to leave some things at home, because we were originally overweight according to our bathroom scales, because we're carrying some food supplies, plus all of our snorkeling gear Uneventful trip, surprisingly good lunch and drinks, but the hostess is impossible to understand on the PA system. We are on the wrong side to get good photos of the overall island on the way in, but manage to get some telephotos through the opposite window, plus some good shoreline shots from our side.
