Calling for Anti-Statist, Anti-Authoritarian Radical Alliances
On Sunday October 11th Derrick Broze spoke at Libertyfest in NYC about the history of the word Libertarian, the history of alliances between radicals on the left and right, a highlight of the work of Karl Hess and Samuel Konkin III, and the need for less ego and dogma in the interest of building new alliances between radicals across the political spectrum.

In my view there are 6 types of societies in regard to the state:
1. Pre-state society: A society whose members are of a mentality that they can form states de novo, but don't due to a lack of food surplus or are in the process of state formation (like Harappa). State formation takes longer in more spread out areas.
2. Early State Society: Where people actually worship the state and believe the state - through a king, priest, or whoever - to actually be qualitatively superior to everyone else and fit to dictate. Usually it was believed they were channeling the will of god.
3. Modern State Society: A society with a cynical "realist" view that there's nothing special about a state, it's just necessary to maintain order (Here's looking at you dipshit!). This comes from states having been around as far back as anyone can remember.
4. De facto stateless society: A society that doesn't have a centralized law-making agency but whose people fit the mentality of the modern state society. Examples of this are stateless Pennsylvania and Rhode island and various areas cascading through the mild west.
5. Stateless Society: A society of people who don't view states as legitimate and so treat them with the same skepticism they would any other firm. Thus, realizing they're bullshit, don't form states de novo. Examples of this are Somalia, Ireland and Iceland.
6. Ideologically Anti-Statist Society: A society of people who recognize the state as a positive BAD and oppose the state. Unfortunately, the only examples of this are the anarchists who couple their anti-statism with pre-marginalist LTV bugaboos and various other inane "anti-authoritarian" baubles.
In some times and places people will regress from #3 to #2. The most obvious regression is Nazi Germany and perhaps Italy. Revolutionary periods appear to be prone to this regression from Modern to Early state mentalities.
I believe the revolution in the USSR was a regression from a modern state - russians didn't like the czar but thought that order needed to be maintained somehow, and then when the communists started taking over the general mentality shifted back to an early state mentality.
Ironically, Spain and Russia, despite being economically backward, seemed to have somewhat modern mentalities prior to revolution. The Nationalist victory in Spain, in my estimation, prevented further regression, as the nationalists actually lacked majority support (though not to the same degree as the czarists in Russia). And so more Spaniards supported the Communists than Nationalists, but the state was now Nationalist, which means most Spaniards were NOT worshipping Franco, meaning Spain was slightly in the Modern State Society category. IMO this limited the mass-killings the Franco Regime could get away with. If the communists won, Spain would have been more in the Early State category and would have drifted more that way as propaganda and public schooling took effect, resulting in the megadeaths of similar population proportion as in Germany and the USSR.

Radical means taking a direct action approach to your activism. By using Agorist methods of building counter-institutions to the state in the areas of economics, media, education, and others we can create a competing infrastructure that could use a variety of mutual aid strategies to create interlocking communities that voluntarily associate, and trade. We encourage tax resistance, and using black and gray markets to make your money outside of the state's central economic system. We also encourage the spreading of propaganda against the state whenever and where ever possible. Creating affinity groups, or freedom cells is an incredibly necessary way to build solutions on a local level.
Libertarianism is a political and philosophical position that values liberty, specifically individual liberty, as of utmost importance in our lives. The historical usage of the term began with Anarchists of the 19th, and 20th centuries. Libertarian has always meant anti-authoritarian, and individual. Beyond that, a Libertarian can support whatever economic system they choose as long as it does not result in Authoritarianism, Statism, or the trampling of individual rights.
Alliances are a union or association formed for mutual benefit, especially between countries or organizations, or a relationship based on an affinity in interests, nature, or qualities. It is wise for radicals that are anti-state, and anti-authoritarian on all sides of the spectrum to focus on organizing together for common ground issues and putting aside dogma to build a network that can support communities without the state.
From Syndicalists to Individualists, Mutualists and Agorists, Voluntaryists and Market Anarchists, Panarchists and Anarchists without Adjectives, and other self-identified radicals - this talk is aimed at those who are against Authoritarianism, Statism, and Oppression in all forms. This talk is aimed at those who recognize the power of the Individual and seek to work together as a whole.
We will work with others regardless of their preferred economic systems. As long as individuals are capable of forming alliances without using force on one another they should seek to form temporary alliances around common ground issues or immediate threats. It is also important to remember we do not need to sell out our own individual principles in the interest of these alliances.
