Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moualem has announced that the second day of the UN weapons inspectors\' probe into alleged chemical weapon strikes in Damascus has been postponed.

Moualem told US Secretary of State John Kerry that the government was not obstructing the work but that there had been disagreements among the rebels over security arrangements.

Moualem said the army would press on with its military campaign despite the threat of possible foreign strikes. He addeded that any strikes on Syria would serve the interests of Al-Qaeda linked groups.

The international community, facing a deadlocked UN Security Council, is looking at other means to legitimise a military strike on Syria. The 15-nation council has been in limbo since the uprising against the Assad regime began in 2011.

Both Russia and China have vetoed three resolutions calling for firm action against Damascus.

In the UK, Prime Minister David Cameron recalled parliament from its summer break, it will meet on Thursday to discuss the response to the situation in Syria.

The US has intervened in conflicts before without UN backing, notably in Kosovo in 1999, and may well do again as President Obama seeks a so-called \

The British Navy expressed their willingness to join the Americans in the event a military operation is launched in Syria against the army of the Syrian President Bashar Assad. The reason is the same. The rebels still convince the whole world that it is the sitting government that used chemical weapons against them. According to them, in a suburb of Damascus, about a thousand people were killed. Despite the fact that the details of the attack are being investigated to find out, which side used the poisonous gas, the rebels are preparing for an attack. Most likely, it will be pin point strikes with the use of cruise missiles. The operation may start very soon.

Reportedly, the White House has not approved the operation.

The UK and the United States said that the current government of Syria would have to deal with serious consequences, but only if it turned out that it was Assad\'s forces that used chemical weapons. Therefore, it is up for the verdict of experts to decide everything. Will Syria become another Iraq? After all, there were no weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq, although this pretext was used as an excuse to invade the country and overthrow Saddam Hussein\'s regime.

According to declassified CIA documents, US intelligence officials disclosed the location of Iranian troops to Iraq knowing that Saddam Hussein would use chemical weapons against them back in the 1980s. According to the new revelation from Foreign Policy Magazine, not only did they the US provide the location, but were aware of the scale of nerve gas attacks. Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern weighs in on the report and explains how America\'s intervention changed history.

http://www.euronews.com/2013/08/24/california-governor-declares-state-of-emergency-as-wildfire-rages
A raging wildfire in California has led to the county\'s governor declaring a state of emergency. The blaze is threatening power lines which provide electricity to San Francisco and has damaged the electrical infrastructure serving the city.

The so-called Rim-Fire has swept into Yosemite National Park raising concerns for what is one of the county\'s main tourist attractions.

As yet there are no reports of any blackouts in the city which lies about 320 kilometres west of the national park which attracted nearly four million visitors last year.

Already four homes have been destroyed while a further four and a half thousand are threatened. There are fears the flames could reach the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir which provides water for 2.6 million customers in the San Francisco area.

The US has intervened in conflicts before without UN backing, notably in Kosovo in 1999, and may well do again as President Obama seeks a so-called "coalition of the willing". Any attacks on Syria backed by Britain, France and Turkey, to name but a few, will anger Moscow - an ally of Assad. The US believes the allegations that Assad used chemical weapons are true, something Syria denies. Speaking in Washington, US Secretary of State John Kerry adopted a tough tone: "The meaning of this attack goes beyond the conflict in Syria itself and that conflict has already brought so much terrible suffering. This is about the large scale indiscriminate use of weapons that the civilised world long ago decided must never be used at all - a conviction shared even by countries that agree on little else." As the diplomacy continued the bloody conflict went on with death whether by chemical or conventional weapons a daily occurrence. Two former JPMorgan Chase employees are expected to be arrested for their role in the so-called "London Whale" scandal that lost the bank roughly $6.2 billion last year, The New York Times reports. The arrest of the employees, Javier Martin-Artajo and Julien Grout, will reportedly take place in London. Not among those expected to be charged is the London Whale himself, one Bruno Iksil, who built up the massive positions in the derivatives market that eventually cost the bank billions, according to a Reuters report published Thursday. According to a later report, Iksil will have to play a key role in any arrests related to the scandal. On Thursday, Reuters reported that JPMorgan, the largest bank in the country by assets, was close to a settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission over the scandal in which the bank would admit fault, a relative rarity on Wall Street.

The UK and the United States said that the current government of Syria would have to deal with serious consequences, but only if it turned out that it was Assad's forces that used chemical weapons. Therefore, it is up for the verdict of experts to decide everything. Will Syria become another Iraq? After all, there were no weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq, although this pretext was used as an excuse to invade the country and overthrow Saddam Hussein's regime.

Japan's nuclear watchdog has said the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant is facing a new "emergency" caused by a build-up of radioactive groundwater. Prosecutors have demanded a heavy sentence calling Bo's defence "whimsical" and saying he had shown no remorse for his crimes. Bo was a rising star in China's leadership circles when his career was stopped short last year by a murder scandal. His wife Gu Kailai was convicted of poisoning British businessman, Neil Heywood, who had been a family friend. Bo faced charges of corruption, accepting bribes and abuse of power. It has been China's most politically charged trial in decades, and the subject of much speculation. On the streets of Jinan, where the trial was held, one local resident said she thought it was "a fair trial" as it "had lasted several days." Another resident added: "Bo Xilai is one of the princelings, he is son of an old senior official. He is supposed to be in the central leadership of the next generation. If he had not made such a big mistake, he would have been one of the members of the Politico Bureau standing committee. It is a big shame." The blaze is threatening power lines which provide electricity to San Francisco and has damaged the electrical infrastructure serving the city. The so-called Rim-Fire has swept into Yosemite National Park raising concerns for what is one of the county's main tourist attractions.
