Katrin Wagner-Augustin

Katrin Wagner-Augustin (born October 13, 1977) is a German sprint canoer who has competed since the late 1990s. She is 5'11" tall, and weighs 161 pounds.

Competing in four Summer Olympics, Wagner has six medals with four golds (K-2 500 m: 2000, K-4 500 m: 2000, 2004, and 2008), one silver (K-4 500 m: 2012) and one bronze (K-1 500 m: 2008).

Wagner-Augustin also won 26 medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with ten golds (K-1 1000 m: 2005, K-1 4 x 200 m: 2009, 2010; K-4 200 m: 1997, 2005, 2007, 2009; K-4 500 m: 1997, 2005, 2007), fourteen silvers (K-1 500 m: 2009, K-1 1000 m: 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006; K-2 200 m: 2006, K-2 500 m: 2002, K-2 1000 m: 1999, K-4 500 m: 1999, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2010), and two bronzes (K-1 500 m: 2007, K-4 200 m: 2002).

Black Box (band)

Black Box was an Italian house music group popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The members of the group included a trio made up of a club DJ (Daniele Davoli), a classically trained clarinet teacher (Valerio Semplici), and a keyboard and electronic music "wiz" (Mirko Limoni). The three created an image for the Black Box act using French fashion model Katrin Quinol as its album/singles cover art and supposed lead singer in all of the group's music videos.

Davoli, Semplici, and Limoni had previously formed a group called Groove Groove Melody, producing dance music under names such as Starlight (who had a UK Top 10 hit in August 1989 with "Numero Uno") and Wood Allen. They went on to record music under many other aliases, most notably the alias Mixmaster, which scored a UK #9 hit in November 1989 with the song "Grand Piano".

History

In 1989, the trio teamed up with French Caribbean model Katrin Quinol (b. Catherine Quinol) and formed the group Black Box. Quinol did not contribute musically to any of the tracks on the album, and was considered the group's "image", and lip-synched the songs in TV performances and music videos.

KATRIN

KATRIN is a German acronym (Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino Experiment) for an undertaking to measure the mass of the electron antineutrino with sub-eV precision by examining the spectrum of electrons emitted from the beta decay of tritium. The core of the apparatus is a 200-ton spectrometer, which has been built by MAN DWE GmbH in Deggendorf and was shipped to Karlsruhe via an 8600 km route involving the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the Rhine. The construction is proceeding well with several of the major components being already on-site. The main spectrometer test program will start in 2013 and the complete system integration is planned for 2014. The experiment is located at the former Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, now Campus Nord of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Procedure

The beta decay of tritium is one of the least energetic beta decays. The electron and the neutrino which are emitted share only 18.6 keV of energy between them. KATRIN is designed to produce a very accurate spectrum of the numbers of electrons emitted with energies very close to this total energy (only a few eV away), which correspond to very low energy neutrinos. If the neutrino is a massless particle, there is no lower bound to the energy the neutrino can carry, so the electron energy spectrum should extend all the way to the 18.6 keV limit. On the other hand, if the neutrino has mass, then it must always carry away at least the amount of energy equivalent to its mass by E = mc², and the electron spectrum should drop off short of the total energy limit and have a different shape.
