Ousted Chinese politician Bo Xilai has denied one of the corruption charges against him at a court in eastern China. Bo faces charges of bribery, corruption and abuse of power. He also stands accused of receiving a bribe of about 21.8 million yuan (£2.3 million) in China\'s biggest political scandal since the 1970s.

Bo is also accused of allegedly covering up the murder of British business consultant Neil Heywood, after his wife was convicted of killing Mr Heywood last year.

The trial is set to last for two days and the verdict is likely to be in early September. Report by Sarah Kerr.

There are new allegations that chemical weapons have been used in Syria, this time near the capital Damascus in the Goutha region. As always, details about the alleged attack are unclear but there are suggestions that the nerve agent Sarin was used. Even estimates of the numbers killed vary wildly from dozens to more than 600. This video looks at the most recent attack and why there are always questions over the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

One million Syrian children have now been registered as refugees, forced from their homeland by a war that is well into its third year.

Children make up half of all refugees from the Syria conflict, according to UNHCR. Most have arrived in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt. Increasingly, Syrians are fleeing to North Africa and Europe. Latest figures show that of the one million Syrian refugees under the age of 18, some 740,000 are children under the age of 11.

An emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council has called for a prompt investigation into an alleged chemical weapons attack outside the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The main Syrian opposition group says more than 1,000 people have been killed on the outskirts of Damascus and that Bashar al-Assad\'s government is responsible.

The Syrian government denies using chemical weapons and says the claims are a desperate attempt to cover up defeats.

The main Syrian opposition group says more than 1,000 people have been killed on the outskirts of Damascus and that Bashar al-Assad's government is responsible. The Syrian government denies using chemical weapons and says the claims are a desperate attempt to cover up defeats. Al Jazeera's John Terrett, reporting from New York, said the Council released "a very vague, bland and tepid statement" after the two-hour meeting. "The Security Council is hobbled on issue of Syria, they can't agree on anything," he said. Our correspondent has the latest from the UN, in New York.
