Revolution in Ukraine: Dispatch from the Presidential Palace
Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News As protesters in central Kiev took over the parliament building on Saturday, others headed to President Yanukovych's highly controversial private estate of Mezyhrhrya, just outside the city. The estate, half the size of Monaco, cost hundreds of millions of dollars to build, much of it coming from embezzlement and corruption, and had long been in the protesters' sights. The average monthly salary for an Ukrainian citizen is around 200 Euros, so their President's opulent lifestyle was a constant slap in the face that could no longer be ignored. VICE News went along with thousands of curious Ukrainians to take a look and walk around Yanukovych's house, like a kleptocrat's version of Cribs. Ukraine: More of Yanukovich's lavish homes revealed
Subscribe to ITN News: http://bit.ly/1bmWO8h More lavish homes owned by ousted president Viktor Yanukovich have been revealed by the media in Ukraine. They include a massive country residence under construction in Sevastopol, in the Crimean penninsula. There is a frenzy and fascination in the Ukrainian media about where all the country's money has gone as the economy is in dire straits. Reporters have flocked to Yanukovich's properties looking for any information they can on what the ousted president - now wanted for mass murder - wasted state money on. His hunting lodge was also on display in Sukholesye. Anger has welled up as Ukrainians whose average salary is 500 U.S. dollars a month find out their taxes appear to have been squandered on Yanukovich's entertainment. Report by Lauren Hood. Ukraine jitters: Global financial markets stumble
The turmoil in Ukraine is spooking global financial markets,... unsettling investors already nervous about shaky emerging market economies. Russia's stock market and currency tumbled to levels unseen in recent years... dragging down markets around the globe. Song Ji-sun reports. Western leaders are threatening Russian President Vladimir Putin with economic penalties for his troops' intervention in Crimea but the financial system is already punishing him. The Moscow stock market suffered its biggest loss in more than five years on Monday ... and the ruble tumbled sharply in a nervous reaction to the Kremlin's gambit in Crimea. The benchmark MICEX closed 11 percent lower in Moscow -- its biggest loss since November 2008. Russia's central bank tried to contain the plunge in the ruble's value on Monday by raising its key interest rate by one and a half percentage points to 7 percent. It was the largest interest rate hike since the global financial crisis in 1998. Stocks in global markets stumbled across the board ... with investors selling off shares particularly in companies with exposure to Ukraine and Russia. The Dow Jones industrial average shed nearly 1 percent on Monday. The European markets were hit harder, with the London benchmark Financial Times Stock Exchange ending the day one and a half percent lower, and Paris and Frankfurt stocks losing 2-point-7 percent and 3-point-4 percent, respectively. Stocks on the Ukrainian exchange in Kiev fell about 12 percent, and the country's currency fell to a new low against the U.S. dollar. Ukraine faces a possible default on its debt as Moscow is cutting off aid to its limping economy. Asian markets suffered too ... with Seoul's benchmark KOSPI stock index edging down in early Tuesday trading after closing point-8 percent lower on Monday when indices closed more than one percent lower both in Tokyo and Hong Kong. The uncertainties pushed oil prices higher, with Brent crude futures adding nearly 2 percent in London... and gold also gained over 2-percent to 13-hundred-50 dollars an ounce -- to mark its biggest gain of the year. Song Ji-sun, Arirang News. Back here in Seoul,... the government says... the Ukraine crisis will only have a limited effect on Korea's stock market. But, the finance ministry says it has raised its monitoring of the local bourse just in case.- published: 04 Mar 2014

Ukrainian Protesters Suspect Yanukovich Family of Owning Super Rich Cars
Ukrainian protesters lash out at high end luxury cars for the super rich said to belong to the son of ousted president Viktor Yanukovich. Full Story: Right Sector protesters took Ukrainian media to a private warehouse near Gostomel on Sunday to show them some 12 high high end luxury cars stored there and which the group suspect may belong to the son of impeached president Viktor Yanukovich. Gostomel is 24 miles from Kiev and close to an international cargo airport. The protesters estimated the value of the cars at 2 million dollars. But one of them, an armoured Knight XV luxury SUV, on its own is worth about 500,000 dollars. The Kiev region commander for the Right Sector, Igor Mazur, said all the cars arrived in the private warehouse on the night of February 21, just hours after Viktor Yanukovich signed a deal with the opposition that led to his impeachment by parliament the next day. He said he wanted the ownership of the cars investigated "We are going to have to figure out what these cars are and who they belong to and what we will do with them. We will have to look for people to help us determine all that and I do not rule out the possibility that this is the property of one of Yanukovich's sons," said Mazur. Local media say they have seen Yanukovich junior drive similar cars at rallies and have put out the pictures on their news. The next day on Monday Ukrainian television Channel 5 showed one of the cars, an 'International' 4x4 medium truck parked in a street off Independence Square. One of the protesters tried to smash the car on hearing it belonged to the president's son and had to be held back. The reports come at the same time as the lavish and opulent residences of the president have been opened to a disbelieving public. Revelations about Yanukovich wealth comes as the EU's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton was due to arrive to discuss the country's dire economic situation. The average salary in Ukraine is less than 500 dollars a month. Resolving Blood On The Streets In Ukraine Through Elections?
Resolving Blood On The Streets In Ukraine Through Elections?
*Ukraine has seen its deadliest day of violence since anti-government protests began, with fierce clashes bringing new intensity to a political crisis that has festered in Kiev since late November. At least 11 demonstrators and seven police officers were killed in street battles in the Ukrainian capital, with hundreds more injured and several of the dead suffering gunshot wounds...As the violence intensified US Vice President Joe Biden telephoned Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovych to urge him to withdraw the government forces from Independence Square and to exercise restraint. He also emphasised the protestors had "legitimate grievances"...Two opposition leaders - Vitali Klitschko, the world champion boxer-turned-politician, and Arseniy Yatsenyuk, leader of Ukraine's largest opposition bloc - arrived late tonight at President Yanukovych's office for talks...*. Are elections the answer? The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down. *Read more here from ENJOLI LISTON and LEWIS SMITH: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/ukraine-unrest-police-and-civilians-die-as-officers-fire-water-cannon-on-protesters-throwing-petrol-bombs-9136488.html- published: 19 Feb 2014

The Average Face Of Women From 40 Different Countries For Future Update Please SUBSCRIBE! and Feel Free to Share this Video! FaceResearch.org, a site run by two psychologists at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, features software that can average together faces from thousands of photos. These images purportedly show the average face of women from 40 different nationalities. List of the Countries: Ukraine, Sweden, Poland, Russia, Greece, Italy, Spain, Israel, Chad / Cameroon, Ethiopia, South Africa, West Africa, Germany, France, England, Netherlands, Serbia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, South India, India, Burma, Samoa, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Turkey, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Iran, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, China (Han), Korea, Japan, Mongolia These images have been making the rounds online, and it's unclear how many photos were used to make the composite or how subjects were selected. On sites like Mashable, many commenters have noted that the women are all attractive. The most likely explanation is that blending many faces erases skin blemishes and makes the features more symmetrical. Though, how the subjects were selected may have something to do with the uniform look. It looks like only younger women's photos were used, and it's unclear what ethnicities are represented in each country's composite. Looking at the photo of the South African woman should tip you off that these images aren't quite accurate. For a country where black Africans make up more than 79% of the population, the "average" South African is surprisingly light-skinned. You can try out the software yourself by averaging demo faces, or even upload your own pictures if you register. We may not be able to tell much from these composites, but the site offers more in-depth explanations on facial research. (Or you can just play with the ever-popular baby face maker.)
