Simple Catch

Simple Catch is a simple and clean WordPress Theme for anyone looking to give their website a professional look. It offers easy customization options through its Theme Options. Its ultra-readable typography, large thumbnails and featured slider makes it stand out from a lot of WordPress free themes. It is also one of the most popular themes listed in the WordPress theme directory.

Installation using the Administration Panel

You can download Themes directly to your blog by using the Add New Themes option in the Appearance sub-menu.

  1. Log in to the WordPress Administration panel
  2. Go to “Appearance =>Themes”, and then Install Themes
  3. Type “Simple Catch” in the search box and click on Search
  4. It will show the Simple Catch Thumbnail and details
  5. Finally, click on “Install Now” to install Simple Catch

Manual Installation using FTP

To add a new Theme to your WordPress installation, follow these basic steps:

  1. Download Simple Catch from WordPress Theme Directory (http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/simple-catch) to your Desktop
  2. Unzip simple-catch.zip to your Desktop
  3. Using an FTP client to access your host web server, go to /wp-content/themes/ and make sure that you do not already have a Simple Catch folder installed
  4. If you do, then back it up and remove it from /wp-content/themes/ before uploading your copy of Simple Catch
  5. Upload Simple Catch to /wp-content/themes/
  6. Activate Simple Catch through “Appearance => Themes” in your WordPress Dashboard

Always Set Featured Images

This theme relies heavily on Featured Images. If your post is missing a Featured Image, the post image will not show up on the homepage, on archived pages and Featured Post Slider. Read more about Featured Images

Regenerate Thumbnails

If you have just changed your theme then you need to regenerate image thumbnails for posts published before activating this theme. You can simply install Regenerate Thumbnails Plugin. Then Regenerate Thumbnails through the “Tools => Regen. Thumbnails” in your WordPress Dashboard.

Widgets

Simple Catch currently has only one widgetized area that is Sidebar. You can add a variety of Widgets to this theme by going to “Appearance => Widgets” in WordPress.

Menus

This theme supports “Custom Menus”. You can create Custom Menus through “Appearance => Menus” from your WordPress Dashboard. Don’t forget to select your Custom Menu as Primary Menu to display it as the main menu. Read More

Theme Options

You can customize the theme using the cool additional features through “Appearance => Theme Options” in your WordPress Dashboard.

Layout Options

You can set the general layout option of the archived pages and single post pages either as Content on Left, Content on Right, No Sidebar or No Sidebar, Full Width. Moreover, you can set the layout of a specific post or page individually. The right sidebar layout, is the default layout.

Backgrounds

Custom Background is another great feature of WordPress that is supported in Base. Add yours by going to “Appearance => Background”.

Color Options

Simple Catch has color options for the text displayed in the content part.

Custom CSS

You can add your custom CSS that will overwrite the theme CSS for further more design customization. To add custom CSS go to your WordPress Dashboard. Click on “Appearance => Theme Options => Custom CSS”.

Featured Post Slider

Currently this theme only supports Posts on the Featured Slider. To add Featured Slider, follow these basic steps:

  1. Go to “Appearance => Theme Options => Featured Post Slider”
  2. Click on Slider Options
  3. Simply insert the ID numbers for posts in the respective boxes, one post ID number in each box
  4. To change the slider effects and timing, go to Slider Effect Options which is just below Slider Options
  5. Save your changes

Note:
* When you add the Post IDs, make sure your posts have Featured Images
* If you are unable to find post IDs, please install a href=”http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/catch-ids/” target=”_blank”>Catch IDs Plugin

How to insert Social Icons like Facebook, Twitter, etc?

  1. Go to “Appearance => Theme Options => Social Links”
  2. Add in your Social Profile addresses in appropriate boxes
  3. Click on Save button

Embed multimedia into Posts or Pages

For externally hosted videos (for example a YouTube or Vimeo video), you can directly paste the link of your video page into the content editor. You do not necessarily have to paste the embed code in the content. WordPress will automatically embed the video from the link.

How to Change Logo on Header and Footer?

  1. Go to “Appearance => Theme Options”
  2. Click on Logo Options and view the default logo previews
  3. Now click on Change Header Logo and Change Footer Logo button to change the Header and Footer Logo respectively
  4. Browse the Logo image from desired location and upload it
  5. Once the upload in completed, click on Insert into Post
  6. Click on Save button and see the preview

How to Change Favicon?

  1. Go to “Appearance => Theme Options”
  2. Click on Fav Icon Options and see the default Favicon preview
  3. Now click on Change Favicon button
  4. Browse the Favicon image from desired location and upload it
  5. Once the upload in completed, then click on Insert into Post
  6. Click on Save button and see the preview

How to Add Web Clip Icon?

  1. Go to “Appearance => Theme Options => Web Clip Icon”
  2. Now click on Upload/Change Web Clip Icon button
  3. Browse the Web Clip image from desired location and upload it
  4. Once the upload in completed, then click on Insert into Post
  5. Click on Save button and see the preview

How to Change Content Text Color??

  1. Go to “Appearance => Theme Options”
  2. Click on Content Color Options
  3. Select the colors and save changes

How to Set Certain Categories to Display in Homepage / Frontpage?

  1. Go to “Appearance => Theme Options”
  2. Click on Homepage / Frontpage category setting
  3. Select the categories you want
  4. You may select multiple categories by holding down the CTRL key
  5. Click on Save button

How to Change the Search Button Text?

  1. Go to “Appearance => Theme Options”
  2. Click on Search Text Settings
  3. Then type in the text you want to have displayed in the search button
  4. Click on Save button

How to Change the Excerpt Length and More Tag Text?

  1. Go to “Appearance => Theme Options”
  2. Click on Excerpt / More Tag Settings
  3. Type in the number of words and more tag text
  4. Click on Save button

How to Redirect Feed to Feedburner / or any other URL?

  1. Go to “Appearance => Theme Options => Feed Redirect”
  2. Add in your redirection URL in “Feed Redirect URL” box
  3. Click on Save button

How to insert Site Verification IDs?

  1. Go to “Appearance => Theme Options => Webmaster Tools”
  2. Click on Site Verification
  3. Enter the Site Verification ID (Google, Yahoo or Bling), wherever you wish to verify your site
  4. Click on Save button

How to insert Analytics / Other scripts?

  • Go to “Appearance => Theme Options => Webmaster Tools”
  • Click on Analytics/Header/Footer Codes
  • Here you can add in various scripts like, google, facebook etc.
  • Enter the script in upper text area, for text you want to load on Header
  • Enter the script in lower text area, for text you want to load on Footer
  • Click on Save button
